Ouch! The Bengals, Eagles, and Panthers have already likely lost starters for the season. We've been through this so we know what their fans feel right now. Can't imagine the feelings of those players. Keep them in your thoughts and prayers and may the injury bug steer clear of Berea this year.

Kemoeatu tears Achilles tendon
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on August 3, 2009 8:51 PM ET
After a quiet first week of injuries during training camp around the NFL, starters are quickly falling by the wayside Monday.

First the Eagles lost middle linebacker Stewart Bradley, then the Bengals lost tight end Reggie Kelly, and now the Panthers will be without starting defensive tackle Maake Kemoeatu.

Kemoeatu, perhaps the key to Carolina's rush defense, tore his right Achilles tendon. The team hasn't announced anything, but he's likely done for the season.

It's an especially massive loss for the Panthers because they have little depth behind him.

When Kemoeatu was out last year, the team's rush defense fell apart.

"It's like night and day," linebacker Jon Beason said at the time of having Kemoeatu in the lineup.

Undrafted free agent Marlon Favorite, 2008 sixth-round pick Nick Hayden, and third-round pick Corvey Irvin could all be used in a rotation.

No matter who they use, expect teams to right right at Carolina to test them.

There aren't many exciting free agent defensive tackles available, and it's questionable if the Panthers can fit one on the team anyhow.

Julius Peppers' big salary has the team snug to the salary cap.

consider it done... my bad... I forgot how sensitive some people are 'round these parts.

I guess we can't post about other team's misfortunes without incurring the wrath of the NFL God of Injury upon our beloved team. So I have since deleted my initial post. May I burn in hell for all eternity should one of our players get hurt due to my irresponsible post.

Why?

Kardiac, your thread was fine. If people are dumb enough to believe in jinx's then their underwear must smell funny.

I agree, there was no reason to delete this.

We are never, never going to have a season without someone getting injured. And by posting this thread, the chances aren't going to go up.

It's inevitable. Like walking into Wal-Mart and finding a 70 year old passing out smiley face stickers.

Actually, i find threads like this useful for fantasy football purposes. Keeping track of dominant players on 32 teams takes more time then i care to waste.

Yeah, maybe that's why I felt so uneasy. When I first saw it, I thought there were a bunch of injuries in OUR camp.

Maybe someone needs to check out the "Truth in Advertising" thread in the Tailgate Lot.

OK, not as scary as I thought at first. We have been snakebitten by the injury beast way beyond some other clubs. Most bizarre is the number which are season- and even career-ending potentially. Sorry for the other folks' luck, but we could use a breather for a change with "normal" amounts of ding-ups.

As long as we can keep this thread going throughout the Pre-Season without seeing a Brown's player on it...I'm fine

Prayers out to the Brown's and their health this season

Btw - obviously we can understand why Mangini insists on playing so many players at the starting positions. If the worst happens more so now than any other year I think we are prepared to CARRY on. A very good characteristic that Mangini has gotten from Bellicheck - props also to Kokinis for bringing in the solid 2nd tier personnel to fit into our schemes.

Terry Out For the Year
The Ravens got thinner at offensive tackle as Adam Terry will go to IR.
by Mike Duffy
Aug 4, 2009, 11:47AM

Ravens offensive tackle Adam Terry is headed to Injured Reserve because of a right knee injury that will require surgery.

Terry said the surgery, which could be a microfracture procedure, is scheduled for next Tuesday.

It will be the Ravens’ second consecutive year that a key player has undergone microfracture surgery after defensive tackle Kelly Gregg had it last fall. That was following a previous arthroscopic surgery to clean out Gregg’s knee in training camp did not fully heal.

By all accounts, Gregg has made a full recovery, as the stalwart nose guard has seen no ill effects in training camp.

The Ravens hope to see the same results with Terry.

“It’s along the lines of a Kelly Gregg thing,” said head coach John Harbaugh. “With Kelly, we thought he would be OK when he had the first procedure, but it didn’t heal. There were some cartilage issues in there, and it should be fine this year. Once the surgery is done, it takes some time for that cartilage to grow back in.

“Adam should be no problem for next year.”

Terry underwent arthroscopic knee surgery earlier this offseason and was limited throughout all Organized Team Activities (OTAs). He began training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Terry watched the Ravens’ first two days of training camp from the sideline, but he remained in McDaniel College’s Gill Gymnasium for the rest of the practices with his entire right leg tightly wrapped in a bandage or compression sleeve.

He was originally slated to challenge rookie Michael Oher for the starting spot at right tackle.

The Ravens’ current top backup at offensive tackle is Oniel Cousins, although guard Marshal Yanda, who is making an impressive recovery from three torn knee ligaments, can also play tackle.

Baltimore worked out two players on Tuesday and will sign one pending a physical.

It's a shame the Ravens lost a key OL guy for the season.
I feel badly for them. Seriously, it's tough news.

j/c Add Denver & Houston to the list...

Griesen done for the year
Posted by Mike Florio on August 4, 2009 4:14 PM ET

The Denver Broncos, who are attempting to make their defense into something other than the sieve that it's been for most of the decade, have lost one of their new additions.

Gone for the year is linebacker Nick Griesen, who injured his knee during practice on Monday. As Lindsay Jones of the Denver Post points out, the move creates a roster spot for the team's lone remaining unsigned draft pick, running back Knowshon Moreno.

Griesen, a seven-year veteran, spent the past two seasons in Baltimore.

Jacques hears a "crack"
Posted by Mike Florio on August 4, 2009 7:07 PM ET
And Dunta Robinson suddenly has acquired more leverage.

Texans cornerback Jacques Reeves suffered a broken leg during practice today, according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle. Per McClain, Reeves will miss six-to-eight weeks.

That means the team has a greater need for Robinson, who has not yet signed a one-year franchise tender. (And we got a real kick out of this absurdly obvious pro-Texans/anti-player line from McClain's article: "Dunta Robinson, the franchise player who hasn't reported, could help the problem if he would sign his one-year tender and join his teammates.")

Though Robinson can't sign a long-term deal until after the season, the Texans could offer him more money for 2009, or they could agree not to use the franchise tag again in 2010.

Reeves was replaced by Brice McCain, a sixth-round draft pick in 2009.

So, yeah, they'd be wise to get Robinson, who has no moral obligation to "sign his one-year tender and join his teammates," into camp.

It's not like Robinson didn't say he didn't want to be franchised..........

This is what the Texans get. He'll play this season, but he'll do it his way

They are HAMMERING this guy down here. Saying he showed up to camp 40 lbs overweight, that he wasn't even doing anything but running in a straight line when he got hurt, that his injury is almost certainly a result of him being so out of shape... I have no idea how much of its true, but Kemoeatu is taking a beating in the press.

I think we made a play for him back when he was a UFA coming out of Baltimore. Might of been '06, I think.

First Major Injury of the Summer Hits Browns? - Thu, Aug 6 2009 at 3:07 pm

Thus far, Training Camp 2009 has been a relatively healthy one for the Browns.

Unitl now.

According to The OBR’s Steve King, offensive lineman Rex Hadnot “blew out” his knee during practice today.

We have no additional details at this time, but will get them out to you as soon as we get them. link

Sadly, I consider this a good thing.

Rex Hadn't did not impress me at all last year, and I'm perfectly fine with him not being on the field for us.

Eh, crap.

It could be worse, but still hate to lost a man for what sounds like a year. Hopefully Rexy gets all better soon.

Browns | Hadnot carted off field Thursday
Comment (0)
Thu, 06 Aug 2009 15:56:50 -0700

The Associated Press reports Cleveland Browns OG Rex Hadnot (knee) was carted off the field Thursday, Aug. 6, after suffering a potentially serious left knee injury during practice. The Browns had no immediate word about the severity of the injury.

It happens to every team. Still Sucks.

Even if he's a backup, this isn't good to lose depth on the OL. Besides, he's a Brown so have sympathy for him, purp. Geez.

Well, looks like we have injury #2.

Browns waived draft pick Don Carey (says waived/injured) and signed DB Brandon Anderson from U of Akron.

Wonder what his injury was. Hopefully he wasn't waived due to poor play. I doubt this kid has off the field problems, like someone suggested in the other thread. This kid was accepted to I believe Yale (or one of the Ivy League schools), so I doubt he was having trouble learning things, either.

If he was injured, wouldn't they just have placed him on IR?
