I know it doesn't mean much, but I think the starter tonight does mean at least SOMETHING.
Though he may rotate starters next week, Mangini ain't Crennel.
He isn't going to flip a coin tonight.
We don't know that. He just chose not to make it public. He may have sat alone in his office and flipped a coin.

I think he wants to see what each does against a legit number 1 "D" before he makes his choice....I still get the feeling Quinn is going to be the pick for starter and they are trying to pump up DA's trade value by making it seem like they was even all through camp.....Ratty wasnt brought on board to be number 3, he was traded for to be the backup IMO. I could see us picking up someone like Harrell once DA is traded.....

I don't know if that's true, 017... I think Anderson starts tonight. For one reason only... So Quinn starts at home next week to keep the fans happy.
Well, it's Quinn, so throw out that theory.

Well, at least we do have Quinn to throw interceptions in the endzone now.
We're trying to throw the ball downfield and he checked the ball down to Trent Richardson and the Indians on the choice.

I'll go along with Bernie's reply when asked if anyone took the lead tonight ....
He said: "I was always taught that if you can't say something nice ......"

Nice , I missed that. I had to turn it off after the 3rd Q.

In some small defense of Quinn, he did hit Braylon in the hands in the endzone the play prior to the INT. If old Bray made the catch the drive would have been a success.

I just hope that Mangini realises that we don't have a QB in Anderson. We HAVE TO give Quinn an extended chance this season.
We need to know if we need to start over with this position next year.
I don't believe that we do but we need to know for sure.
I know I never want to see DA play QB again for the Browns.

agreed....had braylon caught it the qb battle would be over.....I think Quinn showed tonight that he is the starter going forward....DA did nothing....NOTHING to prove he should even stay on as a water boy....heck I could go in and go 0-2 and throw a pick!

I am a firm believe in the fact that wasted opps usually come back to bite you in the ass. If stone hands catches that nice pass right into his hands that INT does not happen.
I thought Brady played pretty well, I thought he was way better than Anderson. Anderson and his physical skills have a way of fooling you. You see him in camp with the red jersey on and the incredible throws he can make when there is no pressure on him and you can be duped into thinking he can be good on game day. Come game time and the pressure gets on him he melts like butter. I have zero confidence in Anderson, I am excited by what I saw of Quinn and am looking forward to seeing more.

I think that this team is really just one player or so away ..... At damn near every position. I don;t think we have a QB. We need a RB. TE is a question mark. WR is a young group. The right side of the OL might get someone killed. The DL needs a playmaker to line up with Rogers. The LB corps looked weak and slow tonight. The Safety poition looks to be in a world of hurt. Now I realize that this was only 1 game ..... but man this team really stunk up the joint tonight. No one covered themselves in glory.

Just trying to be funny, since tonight was so unfunny. Quinn did have some nice passes tonight. DA got hit a couple of times while throwing. Both didn't score

Yeah, Quinn did have some good passes, I was trying to be sarcastic since the team as a whole played like crud.

Why didn't BQ shake off the drop in the endzone and put up points on the next down, instead of forcing a horrible throw and causing an INT?

I'd rather have a "D" that can stop third string RBs

I hate to say it but I agree, J Lew just does not have that burst anymore. Damn i hope James Davis can develop quick and we can use J Lew as a short yardage back ALA Jerome Bettis at the end of his career.

i thought Quinn looked good up to the interception. Everyone was worried about DA throwing a pick in the red zone. That didn't happen because we never moved the ball while he was in. Yes, if Braylon catches the ball he has a TD instead of a pick. IMO that doesn't matter because he still threw a pick on the next pass. The 3rd down pass to Cribbs did kill the first drive but it looked like there was mis-communication between Cribbs and himself. For all of you who couldn't see the game Cribbs and Quinn were discussing the route after the the throw.
DA's first incomplete was probably due to him holding on to the ball a little too long. His arm was hit while in the throwing motion. His pick was due to Womack chip blocking the rusher and handing him off so he can help in a double team. Problem was he passed him off to nobody. DA was hit while throwing a deep ball to Cribbs who appeared to have a step on the defenders but the ball came up way short.

Some passes have to be made on the fact that the QB is confident that their WR will make the better play than the defender...
Obviously.. Edwards kind of messes that up... see 2009 Derek Anderson.

Please. There is no defense for that pass. it was stupid. It was also his only mistake all night.

Wow that was bad! Anderson had two pass attempts one was intercepted and the other very well could have been. Quinn is still throwing behind receivers, had one interception and a gift on a boneheaded decision where the defender dropped the ball, which would have given him two. The O-line looked shaky at best, The running game was bad and the defense is exactly how I remember it. I will put this game behind us as I hope the players do, and wait till next week. I would like to see Anderson get the start to see if he can develop any sort of momentum. That third down play where they threw the pass behind the line was a horrible play. I hope they weren't serious. Everybody gets an F for that game. Elam looks way to aggressive not to get burned a couple times a game.

You're right.
Cribbs looked to be pointing at him self as to say it was on him. Bernie pointed it out as well, saying Cribbs must have read zone and sat down, but it was man coverage with the guy right on his hip. Cribbs should have cut out instead of sitting down.

Dude, you can put away the fanboi stuff. I know he walks on water, but you could offer something a little more constructive.
Quinn had a good game, DA had two bad passes where he was hit while throwing. I'm glad Quinn did well, he most likely scored some points in the QB battle.

Its funny! Since when is a 43 QB rating and no points and a close to two interceptions a good game? Take the blinders off fellas. Wow. It's like reading a bunch of bad Tony Grossi columns. Lets see how this pans out, but don't sugarcoat it. Quinn did remind me of Frye Turk! LOL

Unfortunately, your fanboism that Homer referred to also happens to apply to Sean Jones. Stop crying over bad football players.

Yes, if Braylon catches the ball he has a TD instead of a pick. IMO that doesn't matter because he still threw a pick on the next pass.
Correct.
In terms of evaluating the player, a pick is still a pick. Any ideal that says Edwards should have caught the ball therefore the pick doesn't matter is Homerism. The REAL evaluation is that it was a good pass that Dropwards fouled up, and that Quinn fouled up by throwing a bad ball on the next throw.
From everything I've picked up, both QB's failed. As they continue to split reps, they'll continue to develop at a slower rate in terms of familiarity with teammates and the offense. So splitting reps only works through the next game, as it'll then be time to name a starter, giving him ALL the work leading up to the last two preseason games. Then you give that QB most of the work during said preseason games and hope for the best.
***Gordon, I really didn't think you could be this stOOpid, but you exceeded my expectations. Wussy. Manziel, see Josh Gordon. Dumbass.***

Right on Toad. I'm willing to give Mangini the Detroit game for this silly competition to continue, but after that he better make a decision. This team needs reps with the same players constantly. This mixing and matching is good to a point, but a time comes for continuity. These QBs are playing behind ever revolving lines with a smogasbord of recievers. I can't see how any timing can be developed.
As for the game last night, I thought Brady moved the team well, but the INT was on him. A bad throw into tight coverage. But he did show poise and control on both drives. DA is an enigma. To me he looked lost from the get go. His pick and the incomplete are both on him IMO. Watching it for a second time, he looks downfield and never looks back. The guy knows the long ball is his forte, and seems willing to live and die by it. He held the ball way too long and never looked for a check down, even with the pressure coming fast.
I'll give Brady the nod this week, but I hope to see DA right his ship next week. I believe both these guys are suffering in their progress with this splitting of reps.

I have not seen anyone bring this up. It seemed to me that BQ was doing a good job of reading what the D wanted to do and adjusting. He did have time to pass in the pocket most of the time, his sack was on a play action that a pro-bowl LB did not bite on.
I felt bad for anderson it's like he would just walk up and run the play. The packers were playing pretty aggresive with thier blitzing. But it's not going to get any easier on sunday. Also in DA's defense the did not get as many chances to drop back into the pocket, many of his plays were off play action, and he just did not havce as much time on those plays.
IMO DA will start next game, but in the end the Coach said he also wants a QB that makes choices that put the offense in a good position to succeed. In an honest evaluation with last nights game BQ adjusted the offense and blocking to move the ball, DA did not. I have no hate for DA but this is the type of player he has always been.
OT you are correct, even thought BE dropped the pass, quinn should have protected the ball more and taken the points if he had no clear reciever.

I didn't get to see any of the game, but my impression between the two is with Brady moving the ball, the D got a bit of a breather, it may not be what you want out of a QB, but it is an improvement over last year....
Those 3 and outs on O, will have their D playing a full games worth of snaps by half time....

the first game goes to quinn. he was more poised and made a couple nice throws. i also liked that he went down the line in the huddle having patting each lineman. there was the nice td throw but the next one was just a terrible decision all around.
i'd like to see more pass attempts by DA but the opportunities were not there (especially with that one int, where i'm just glad his knee wasn't shattered). DA, while he didn't run the harrison play well, made the nice, soft, short throw perfectly.
if mangini is consistent with what he said about alternating starts, DA gets the start at home. maybe to see how he handles the "home" crowd.

I'll bet my sig that the 'loser' of the QB battle winds up starting 5 games or more.
Unless, of course, one is dealt.
