j/c...
This is definitely not to Punch, Toad, Excl and others who actually have a clue about the current state of baseball...
We don't have a chance to win this year and with the same team we probably didn't have much of a chance to win next year, so trading these players was the smartest move we could make.
Derosa was probably gone after this year. Garko and Francisco are decent, but neither one will be an all star. Betancourt's options next year is over $5 million so that wouldn't be picked up. Lee wants to test free agency. Victor said he wanted to stay here his whole career, but that could just be a PR move so he doesn't get booed like Thome (I'm not saying it is, but it could be)...
We're much better off getting a bunch of young players who could eventually turn out to be good. This is how small market teams have to work. Once our good players become FA eligible, they are out of our price range so we need to get prospects for them while we can and the same cycle will go on until MLB puts in a salary cap (unlikely).
I'm excited to watch the young guys we got and to see how they turn out...
And Muni... I'm sure the Dolan's appreciate the $50 you spent on tickets because they would be in the hole $16,000,050 if you didn't...

That's all they are losing? They should lose more! It started with not being willing to pay for CC. And it was all downhill from there.

So what your really saying about Home Depot is your mad at Tony stewart for leaving and not completely comfortable with Joey Lagano driving, but it's still better than Jimmy Johnson....

Small market or not, this city supports a winner and Dan Gilbert and Dick Jacobs have proven that.
Dick Jacobs had a small payroll team that suddenly turned into WS contenders and the #1 attraction in Cleveland. He was printing money before he went out and spent it. As soon as he saw the writing on the wall, he sold the team.
Dan Gilbert had Lebron James printing money for him and a salary cap at his disposal. He didn't have to worry (that much) about Lebron bolting for a higher salary because he could offer the highest one anyway. He hasn't had to worry about spending money because he knew he wasn't really going to lose it as long as Lebron James was here.
Those two were hardly shelling out $20-$30 million in losses and praying that the fans would show up to cover the losses ... like people are expecting Dolan to do. Jacobs was making plenty of money before he spent it. Gilbert was spending a tick over budget, knewing he wouldn't lose players down the road and that fans would more than likely cover the losses anyway.
I find it kind of ironic that the same people calling Dolan a cheapskate are the same one that refuse to buy a ticket ... pretty much ensuring that he won't be able to keep guys like Lee and Martinez around.

The Dolans had no business buying this team. This is a business and this is also a sport.
- Let's talk business here. Take Home Depot for example. Home Depot practices good business when they let me buy a product and also let me return the product if I don't feel it's worth the money I paid for it, or if it is deficient. - Good business, and it keeps me coming back. On the other hand, take a look at how the Dolans do business. Last December, I gave Larry Dolan a good amount of money when I purchased my wife and I a set of Indians tickets for a game that is to be played in September. Granted, when I bought the tickets, I was buying them because I expected to watch some good major league talent - namely Cliff Lee and/or Victor Martinez. I fully understood that when I gave Larry Dolan my money for these tickets that there was a chance that Cliff Lee may not pitch this game, or Victor Martinez may be injured, etc. But I figured that days off and injuries are part of the game and I took my chances. I did business with Larry Dolan and bought a couple tickets. Here we are in August and my wife and I have zero percent chance of watching Cliff Lee or Victor Martinez play in September. Unlike Home Depot, mind you, Larry Dolan won't give me my money back, nor will he let me trade my tickets for any sort of Indians team shop credit. All he does is sits back, and counts the millions that he already has stashed away for himself and the next 10 generations of his family.
- I can assure all of you, I will never do business with him again.
When he bought this team, he knew that as an owner, he may make millions at times and at others, he may take a loss, and if so, it's his responsibility as the owner of the business to soak up the loss - not mine.
When times are good, and he is making money, he doesn't come to me and say, "Hey, thanks for buying tickets ahead of time, here's a portion of my earnings"
A better scenario would be that you went to Home Depot and paid for a screwdriver you will pickup and use in September, and when September comes, Home Depot had decided not to carry screwdrivers anymore.
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

Good viewpoint,...I have never referred to Dolan as a cheapskate, because I feel his hands are tied by the Player's Union and the absence of a cap. However, I still don't buy tickets. (But that's not because the Jacobs' were better owners and sold us out,...)

Twins acquire pitcher Carl Pavano from Indians
MINNEAPOLIS (AP)—The Minnesota Twins have acquired right-hander Carl Pavano(notes) from the Cleveland Indians in an attempt to shore up their rotation.
The deal was announced Friday. The Twins will send the Indians a player to be identified later.
The 33-year-old Pavano went 9-8 with a 5.37 ERA in 21 starts for Cleveland this season, giving up 150 hits and 23 walks with 88 strikeouts in 125-plus innings.
An All-Star in 2004 for Florida, Pavano spent four injury-plagued seasons with the New York Yankees before signing with the Indians last winter. He was expected to join the Twins for their game in Detroit late Friday.
To make room for Pavano, knuckleballing reliever R.A. Dickey(notes) was optioned to Triple-A. Also, pitcher Boof Bonser(notes) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list.

Big shoes to fill there for Pavano; you don't just walk in and replace a Boof Bonser.

I always wonder why they make such a big deal about the trade deadline, Then we get so many moves made after. What's the point of the deadline?

I saw an Indians T-Shirt the other day ....... It said: Waiting for next year When we won't have a Cy Young winner to trade away......
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.

I think after the deadline the players in question have to clear waivers...?
I could be dead wrong.

I believe your dead RIGHT....After the deadline, players do have to clear waivers, but most teams dont wanna or cant eat up the waived players contract along with a unwritten rule most waiver trades go thru, I do remember a couple not.

If they pass through waivers, they can be traded. They can also be traded to a team that claims them on waivers...
