I'm not sure why the Browns just didn't go through practice with 79 Players for a few days, then put Carey on the IR, instead of immediately putting him through waivers and hoping he falls through.

The understanding I got, at the deadline for 80 to 75 Roster Limit, players could be put onto the IR without any waivers.

It was discussed right after it happened, and I don't have time to search right now, but IIRC he would have used a roster spot so that's why they tried to put him through waivers. He clears, we can put him IR.

Supposedly there is some gentlemen's agreement that the Jags didn't honor by claiming him. I think I saw where he is now on their IR.

"I'm not sure why the Browns just didn't go through practice with 79 Players for a few days"

Not a few days...a few weeks - basically all of Preseason. Now that its over (preseason) seems dumb. But also in the past unless we are talking 1st to 4th round picks Waived Injured guys are usually left alone....who wants an injured guy and 5th, 6th, 7th round picks if you wanted him that bad...why didn't you take him in the draft??? Keep in mind I believe Del Rio was an asst. Coach with Belicheck in NE with Mangini n Ryan??? Not positive on that mind you but for some reason that sticks out in some memory bank Maybe he was sticking one to his old buddies or respecting their eye for talent??? Or giving a payback favor to Belicheck for the Spy gate thing???

Big bad #88 has also played safety at an NFL level. A few years ago injuries forced him into the starting safety roll and he ended up leading the team in INT's.

I didn't see this posted ... but with the pain meds ..... who knows?

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP)—The Chicago Bears have signed defensive back Rod Hood(notes) to a one-year contract, adding depth to a dinged-up secondary.

The Bears announced the move on Tuesday, one day after the Cleveland Browns released him. Hood made 14 starts last season for the Arizona Cardinals and started in the Super Bowl before getting cut in April. He signed with Cleveland in May and had been rotating at cornerback, but he was beaten on a touchdown pass in Saturday night’s win over Tennessee.

Chicago has been short-handed in the secondary during the preseason, with cornerback Charles Tillman(notes) recovering from offseason back surgery, and cornerback Zackary Bowman(notes) and safety Danieal Manning(notes) nursing hamstring injuries. Each has missed the first three preseason games.

The Bears also released receiver Derek Kinder(notes), a seventh-round draft pick out of Pittsburgh, on Tuesday.

We can only ASSume that M/K did their due diligence and tried to get a trade for Hood...when I read how dire need the Bears were for CB/DBs I was surprised we didn't get a 5,6 or even 7th for him???

But I will ASSume we had tried only cause we got something for Leonard.

i read that hood's running his mouth already, it would be nice if one of our scrubs would be kind enough to stand out at his expense.

shouldn't be that hard.

Rod Hood cut again....

Quote:

The Bears have informed veteran cornerback Rod Hood he will be released three days after the club signed him with durability concerns plaguing the defensive backfield.

This greatly increases the chances Trumaine McBride and D.J. Moore make the roster.

Check back for more soon.

Chicago Sun-Times

Did the Bears sign Hood to get inside access to the Browns for a pre-season game? I don't know.

One thing is for sure. Hood has been cut three times in the past 6 months. That says something about a guy.

Donovan was saying during the broadcast last night that the Bears are thin at DB.. So if he's right, I'd say they signed him cause he's got experience.. Having just gotten cut from the browns could have just been a bonus. Dunno for sure..

cfrs15 I guess you want to be the guy that starts the roster cuts thread. I'm reading about Rod Hood getting cut in the new and improved "roster cuts" thread and then I see somebody else already had started a roster cut thread and didn't realize it had already been started...except it was you again.
