Had this conversation last night with a buddy and have seen inferences to it on here today.

Name former Browns players - WHO ARE STILL IN THE LEAGUE TODAY - who you think could make this year's team.

Named a few last night so I had a head start...I'll only throw out one:

Chris Crocker

What have you got?

I still think that if he was running behind this line William Green would still be our rb, and a top 5 rb in the NFL.

I think with the shape our our O-Line Jeff Faine could/would start here....at either C or RG

Jim Brown - hey, he's employed by a NFL team (it's even us) and there's no way he is any slower than Jamal these days.

Bodden

And did anyone know that we had a RB by the name of Earnest Graham on our PS roster in 2003? Is that the same EG that signed with TB later that year??

He did play a lot for the Cardinals last year. And they cut Hood before they cut him. I didn't say he would make the team, I said "maybe."

Not that I would want him back, he caused a lot of painful memories.

From the 8/23/09 www.cleveland.com/heytony/

Hey, Tony: Whatever happened to Daven Holly? He was a serviceable cornerback for us before his injury in May 2008. Did that end up being a career-ender? -- Randy Loushin, Columbus

Hey, Randy: I recently asked a former teammate about Holly. He said he has not signed with any team.

Did Jeff Faine get mentioned.

How about Nick Eason, he's on the Steelers roster.

Faine played at 275 or 280, way too small for the giant NT of the AFC North. Faine is good butnot when facing those guys so much.

look back at his supporting cast at the time tho!

he is doing just fine and dandy down at TB.....the guy was a stud that we used as a scap goat! just like tons and tons of other guys we have had on the team who had talent!

Faine was getting pwned in the AFC North. It wasn't about his supporting cast. He alone struggled mightily. Lacked the ass. Hank, although a desperate fix after LCB went down, was an upgrade to Faine. Hank's experience and smarts is what gets him by.

As for the tons and tons of talent we let go, it happens where a guy is a weak link in one system, sometimes in a weak chain, whereas he goes elsewhere and is a better fit. Often because there is better talent around them and often because of the system he's now playing in.

Tons and tons is a lot though. I'm not sure I'd put such a high number on that.

Here is my list of players still in the NFL that the Browns once had that could make the team:

Jeff Faine
Shaun Ohara
Leigh Bodden
Kellen Winslow
Brian Russell
Andre Davis- The WR from Texans

pretty short sad list after all the years the Browns have been back

with our lack of depth at safety, i think sean jones would make our team for sure.

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

On a serious note:

I seem to recall hearing that Kirk Chambers is doing a nice job up in Buffalo. He would make a nice backup.

Melvin Fowler has had a decent career ... though I'm not entirely sure if he's still active.

Shaun O'Hara is another one who turned out pretty damn well elsewhere.

Nick Eason has put together a nice career.

Who was the DE who went to Tampa and became a starter? I can't remember his name.

It is avctually pretty scary that a team who has had so much trouble over the years putting together good lines has actually let some players go who actually turned out pretty well.

Dennis Northcutt, Quincy Morgan, Andre Davis, Shaun Smith, Shawn Jones, Chris Crocker, William Green, ... Anthony Henry, he did shut down ochocinco 5 times out of 5.

but Eric Wright would make any Browns team I have seen.

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

I think your thinking of Bodden that used to shut down Chad Johnson. Chad actually used to give hime props and respect via the media.

Man I think it was spriggs or springs or something like that. Definetely with an S. I ticket I can't remembr because I was actually mad we let him go.
Only a short list of these guys was I not down on when we dumped them. this guy that we can't think of and Crocker are at the top of mine.

Edit: oh and ad Bryant to that list. Man i loved that guy. He needed a belt, But he could play some reciever.

Botch let Roman Oben go, and he only ended up starting at LT for the Super Bowl champion Bucs.
Maybe that's the guy you're thinking of?

No way that Northcutt or Quincy Morgan could make our team now. Morgan has stone hands and drops more than BE did last year. And we've got enough slot receivers now.

Yes...U hit the nail on the head...It would nice to for people to see if the players brought in actually FIT and had the supporting cast to cover their weaknesses..of course if they did the Browns would have been a better team long time ago.

yeah that's him.

I know he's not a world beater, but considering the state of our team and depth back then, I was mad he was released.

looks like he averaged 5 sacks a year, which sadley on our team the last 10 years would be welcome. 2004 he had 8 for tampa.

Brian Russel, Sean Jones, Jeff Faine, Antonio Bryant. The list is short, because when you've basically played like ass for a decade you basically are void of talent.

I think we are a more talented team now, but to be honest the list size has more to do with the talent of the previous players than to the talent of the present team

Did anyone mention Anthony Henry, Cris Crocker makes the team at safety over Sorensten. And I don't know if Fowler makes the team over Fraley, so that prob doesn't fit
