If you're talking about Derek Anderson, you would be wise to use the proper name - otherwise you look no better than Brady.
I don't really care. I've called Derek Anderson "Jeff George" so many times, I don't think I need to refer to him as Derek Anderson when I'm about to blast him for being a Jeff George clone. It's just quicker to call him Jeff Anderson.
you had a good run Hank.

Quinn is a dink and dunk QB. For whatever reason he doesn't want to go deep. So to stop the Browns offensive all you gotta do is put 8-9 in the box and watch Quinn throw it for a 2 yard gain on 3rd and 9. I will take Jekyll and Hide over someone who is so one dimensional it has completed stalled our offense.
Many of us stated this before the season even started when the arguement was out there that all you have to do is take away the long ball on DA.
And that may be true, but when you take away the deep ball the run becomes wide open. While taking away Quinns short throws also kills the run in the same process.
I agree.
But don't tell that to the Quinn homer's on here.

bigbad...once more...
why?
Why wouldnt anderson do any better? The guy has proven he can throw the ball downfield (ill even give the benefit of your argument...he doesnt do it overly well because he throws it into coverage that can INT it a lot...ok...thats fine..)
why would he only lead us to 7 wins? he lead us to 10...2 years ago with less talent. I say less talent because we had enough talent to cut a guy (patten) who was talented enough to play with Drew Brees...that says he has talent...period...if you can play for NO who went 17 yards shy of the NFL record...shut up...
Anderson...threw 29 TDs...only Warner and Brees threw more in the same amount of time that DA...really? Thats awful company right? horrible? QBs thatll never adjust to the NFL game...so cmon...DA is good. period.
AHHHH....i think Quinn would be a good QB if he entered the league with a team that has a good OL and a good past catching TE and a good pass catching RB...WRs can be ok...hed be great in Chitown cuz he has Olsen and co...and so on...
We need a QB that can make WRs be good...which we have...ugh...why are we so blind

If you truly believe we have more talent now than we did in 07, then I cannot help you. I also disagree that we have a QB who can make WR's be good. I think we have one back up and one CFL QB on our team, one of them just happens to have a top 5 NFL arm with a two cent brain who will force the ball to receivers.

If this is a rebuilding year, mind as well leave Quinn at this point. Look at our upcoming schedule, WE ARE DONE. I think DA is the better choice but to eliminate doubt, let Quinn take this team where he can. Ironically, I think he'll take it so that we draft his replacement.

Bryant wasn't a Brown in 07..... in 2007 we had BE Kellen, Joe. J. the 2009 WR corps sucks, except for BE. Also we had a decent right side on the OL in '07.

Antonio Bryant was not on that team, but Joe J was, who is miles better than any of our other WR'ers on our team now.
Also, Winslow was miles better than anyone else as well. That 07 team also had a Jamal Lewis who was motivated and still had it, along with one of the best offensive lines in football and DA was on a hot streak that he has never since repeated.

I do not want to see Brady Quinn take another snap. He is awful.
He can't throw with any accuracy. He is afraid to throw more than 10 yards. He hangs onto the ball waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay and another waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long.
There is no way in hell you can dink and dunk your way to success in the NFL. And even his dinking and dunking sucked today.
If you can't stretch the field the defenses will ALWAYS stack the box and bring their safetys and linebackers in. ALWAYS. And there will never ever be any success at running the ball either because of this. It is DOOMED for FAILURE.
Give me DA. He didn't get to the freaking pro bowl by sucking. He had a bad year last year because the #1 receiver edwards was a mental case. Not that he means instant success, but damn the guy has a potent long ball and defense have to plan for it and stand back. It gives our running game half a chance. And when DA is hot, he's unstoppable. Do you all recall the Giants game last year ? I'll take a bad game from him every now and then. But this BQ dink and dunk garbage has got to go. He sucks. He beyond sucks. He makes me puke.

What type of spin do you think the garbage media in this town will put on their Chosen One. Grossi, Mary K, Pluto, Reghi, all of em ought to take the week off with no pay. They all suck as much as Charlie Quinn.. Nothing bad toward Chuck, he was 100 times the QB Quinn is.
The good news is to avoid paying this bum some serious dough, all they have to do is bench him or cut him.

Massaquii was wide, wide, wide open late in the game ..... and Quinn missed him entirely.
Royal was a big target last week.
Edwards caught a lot of balls today.
Furrey was wide open on the pass play down by the end zone on the 1st drive of the game ..... but would have needed 3.5 speed to catch up to Quinn's pass.

Furrey was perfectly covered on that play, had Quinn thrown it to Furrey, it would have been a pic 6 the other way...

I think our receiving core is average:
Edwards & Furrey - good hands, easy targets (so far Edwards has been decent) Mass - speed to get long quickly Royal - big, reliable target
That's not terrible. Not great, but not terrible IMO.

MassQ is a rookie so right now I'm not expecting a lot ... and even then, just cuz he has speed don't make him a good player at this point in his career. not yet. Furrey has been near-invisible, though.
Royal is *big and reliable* but not a good pass-catching TE.
Any of you guys know if our WRs/TEs are getting open downfield?

it's such a beaten point of discussion that all i can say is this: i sure wish we have a browns qb with the ability to throw a td. whoever can do that should be on the field. we as a team cannot win with minimizing mistakes because the tds won't come and those mistakes will still show up. it's just not worth it. take the guy who can actually score and try to minimize his weaknesses. whoever that is, play him.

I couldn't see much on TV today, although the (horrible) announcers pointed out a time or two where Quinn went elsewhere while other guys were open. Then there was the Massaquoi pass where Quinn nailed the DB in the back...that one could've been 6.
Last week...Quinn missed the better option 6-7 times by my count.

I beg to differ.
(at least to the best of my recollection)
Furrey was running towards the left side pylon , on a drag type pattern. The DB was behind him .... and it appeared that there was room in front of him. The pass was thrown about 5 yards in front of Furey though. I don't recall seeing anyone in zone help on Furrey .... and with the ball falling helplessly to the ground, it didn't appear that ther was help over the top coming.
What was your recollection of the play? (Other than "perfect coverage")

The 09 WR corps do not suck. There is talent there and way more athleticism. On top of that Royal is a better blocker than K2 was. On that note, it's interesting that you bring up the 07 OL in your post. I know Dumervil had 4 sacks, but outside of his performance I'd have the say that Brady had more than enough time on multiple plays to stand in the pocket and deliver the ball. He held the ball so long so many times without making a play it was ridiculous. He is the same QB he was at ND. Period. He's not going to wow you, he's not going to be as accurate as you'd want. He's going to bring female fans in droves because of the "cute" factor but outside of that, what can we look forward to? DA might not be a Hall of Famer right now, but at least in his playing time, he's showed enough flashes to warrant some support from this fanbase. He gives us the best chance to win right now, and after 2 weeks, the season isn't over yet. Unless Brady learns how to sustain an NFL drive, he needs to sit. Period

Season Team Passing Rushing Fumbles G GS Comp Att Pct Yds Avg TD Int Sck SckY Rate Att Yds Avg TD FUM Lost 2 2 39 66 59.1 366 5.5 1 2 9 41 66.9 5 25 5.0 0 2 2 Quinns stat line and believe me, the TD in garbage time is deceiving and if you actually watch him, he is way worse than even these pathetic numbers reveal. He has less than a 60% completion percentage...How can you complete less then 60% of throws when a majority are 5-10 yards? Pluto hope you write a story about this. He averages a measely 5.5 yards a completion..take away garbage time it is in the 4s. 2 int's and 2 fumbles...To all those that said he takes care of the ball... 9 sacks in two games...Shows he is clueless out there and holds the ball way too long. Whatever happened to methodically moving the chains and ball control? How about poise and smarts? That doesn't even tell the whole story. This guy and the media duped you into believing he is something he is not.... He is actually losing games and people still don't see it. I understand you spent $150 of your hard earned money on his Jersey..but that is not going to make him a good QB. Consider it a loss, and move on. He didn't win the job...despite what you believe. He was handed the job in the name of Lerner, the media and you casual fans that just don't know any better. I've seen enough excuses on here to make it seem like it's not him, but it is..it's all him. The thing that sucks is we couldn't even get a 6th round pick for him right now, he has been exposed. He will take this money and resume his modeling career next year. I bet the players lost all sorts of faith in him, and in turn are doubting Mangini's decision making. I bet more than a few are secretly holding out hope for DA to be inserted, even if it is for selfish reasons like a new contract. Watch for the fake injury bug next week. I believe we could be 2-0 with DA and at the very least 1-1 and look respectable.

But really, with a RT that apparently uses a walker when blocking and a #2 WR that can't catch or run a 5 yard route when we need 5 yards just what do you all expect from our QBs? And hey, I didn't even mention our Center who apparently thinks whoever stands behind him is roughly 2' 3" tall or our OC who waits to see what's working then calls the opposite for a series or two.
I'm not sure now which comment I like better this one, or the pumpkin with the mean face.

Quit making excuses for Quinn....this kid is awful
Nobody has made any excuses for Quinn, he has been bad. Some with half a brain for football just realize that calling for a QB to be benched because he has had two poor first games is knee jerk and moronic. Especially considering the circumstances. Did you really think we were going to have a new starting Qb ,a new coaching staff, and new offensive system and come out and be a polished offense?
No excuses for Brady at all, he has sucked so far. You gotta give the kid,and the rest of the offense a chance to develop and see what they can do,if they dont work out then make some changes.

Okay this is my first post on this message boards, anybody who pays attention to the Browns website message boards will know, that I post there quite a bit and have been an Anderson backer since before last season when people for whatever reason still wanted Quinn. This is my first post here and I'm going to try and make it a good one. (Does Jules still post on here? I miss reading Jules old posts on the Browns OLD message boards).
On to the topic at hand now. Do we start Anderson over Quinn? That all really is up to Mangini. He has to decide if he wants to try and turn this season around and win some games, or if he truly is in rebuilding mode and wants to ride it out and hope Quinn learns something. If he decides he wants to give this team a chance I believe he has to put Anderson in there. There are multiple reasons why it needs to happen.
The first reason, most NFL teams show there greatest improvement from week 1 to week 2. The Cleveland Browns showed nothing but regression today, we played the vikings tougher last week than we played the Denver Broncos. Not only did our team as a whole show regression, but Quinn did not show any improvement at all. Other than the garbage touchdown last week, he has looked really bad the last 10 or 11 quarters he has played (Let us remember him stinking it up against the Texans last year before he got hurt). Sure quarterbacks need time to progress, I completely agree. Quinn so far has not showed any progress. The short dink and dunks, and holding onto the ball too long is not going to work, its what Frye did and now hes lucky to be a back up in Oakland. Does Quinn need more time to progress? More time doesn't hurt his chances sure, but it goes back to the question on weather or not mangini wants to win some games soon, or just stick it out and take the high draft pick. Sure Quinn probably needs more time, but we as fans want the team to win.
Another reason, is the locker room around the Browns. The players on both sides of the ball are going to keep playing worse if the offense continues to not produce. The defense will ware down faster each game the offense leaves them in a whole, and the players on the offense will continue to produce poorly. It's like the end of last season. Everything will end up in a mudslide the longer this lack of offense goes on and could eventually split members of the locker room up. Frustration makes players play worse.
The next reason, the defense. The Browns defense has not been bad the first two games, we have been right there at halftime, and have stopped the first half runs. The problem is they get no support from the offense, they for whatever reason don't rotate players (which has nothing to do with the QB debate), and they all end up worn out and tired. The offense has done nothing but put the defense in a hole. Had we been able to move the ball and score some touchdowns in both of the first games, first of all they would have likely been different results, and second of all this thread wouldn't exist. But had the defense gotten some offensive support. They wouldn't have broke like they did in both of the first games fourth quarters.
The last reason to consider, is that Anderson might be the better passer. He entered last season with his best receiver in a shell, a running back in Lewis who had some ankle problems, Ryan Tucker, Joe Jurivicious and Dante Stallworth were missing the first few games (when Anderson was in) and worst of all he was coming off a bad concussion. Kind of a bad excuse yes I know, and some will argue if you can make excuses for Anderson you can make excuses for Quinn. However Anderson came in, in his second year of playing with no prior starting experience and lead this team to a 10-6 record, and threw 29 TD passes. Defenses respected his deep ball and it opened up our running game which lead to Lewis' big season in 2007. Yes Anderson has thrown quite a few interceptions but even then he showed more in his first 4 starts with us than Quinn has in his first four starts with us, He looked absolutely great against Denver, decent against Buffalo, and has completely regressed since Houston (again a game he only lead two field goal drives on, and threw two interceptions in).
They both have their upsides, Quinn probably is the smarter Quarterback, and probably does have the better pocket poise and mechanics. He however has not any confidence, or sense of urgency or much leadership with the players. His short dink and dunk throws will never get this team rolling. Sure the right side of the offensive line has been bad, but there have been plays where hes had TONS of time to make a play and has not done it. We had 3 drives in the second half today where it was only 13-6, and instead of taking command and showing some urgency to score, we punted 3 straight times. Can't blame the defense when the offense can't stay on the field longer than 90 seconds.
Derek Anderson might not be better, but I mean after what we have seen right now with Quinn he honestly could not be worse. If you can throw 29 TD's and earn a pro bowl it does not make you a bad quarterback. People should not be bashing Anderson calling him a terrible Quarterback. He might not be the best, or even better than Quinn when all is said and done but he is not bad.
So again, we just have to go back to what Mangini thinks. If he wants to try and turn the season around and win some games, Anderson has to be the way to go. Or we can ride it out with Quinn and apparently we will be lucky to win 3 or 4 games.
Derek Anderson might not be our savior, but like i previously stated, I don't think he could be any worse at this point. If Quinn is going to progress, it sure won't be next week at Baltimore. So we more than likely will have to sit through another slaughter next weekend, and then Mangini might wait and see how Quinn is doing by the 4th game to make the switch. We just have to wait and see.
My vote is for Anderson right now, because I'm sick of watching our punter quickly become the team MVP. I hope Quinn can turn it around, i honestly do but I don't see it happening. I would love for this team to not have to draft another quarterback, and throw another name on the ole' Cleveland bust list.
Sorry for the long post. Just had to get my two cents in.

The Denver defender while a step behind was also a step inside on Furrey. Instead of the direct line BQ took when he threw that ball, had he lofted it over Furrey's head and let Furrey run underneath it, it would have been an easy six. Furrey was wide open, just not for the type of pass that BQ tried to throw.

Furrey was running flat across the field, not angling toward the back corner, the defender was on his hip between himself and the QB... There was no angle to try to throw it over the top, Quinn led him where there was a 5% chance that he might catch it but a 0% chance that it was going to be picked... Remember, the score at the time was 7-3, we needed the points. I hate to settle for a FG too but at that point, to try to force it and get nothing was worse than throwing it away and getting 3.
That's how I saw it.

I'll take a bad game from him every now and then. But this BQ dink and dunk garbage has got to go. He sucks. He beyond sucks. He makes me puke.

DA had his chance and blew it. The only way he should get another shot is after Quinn has thoroughly blown his, and after 2 games, it's WAY too early to pull the plug on him. Switching QBs is a decision that you make after getting a good enough look at one player to make the determination that he's not the guy. I don't care if we switch if Quinn continues to blow, but you cannot make that decision in Week 3 with only a few starts under his belt.
We're... we're good?

Honestly I think it's time to start DA.
Why? Do you think that Dumervil would look better draped over him than he did draped all over Quinn
Quinn isn't perfect, but that was only his 5 start in the NFL.. I'll give him more time,, But nobody in that role is gonna reach potiential with a Dlinemen or LB draped over them all day...

Just keep letting him play,...because THAT's not going to allow him to hit any of his escalators.

JC...No, this is not the time to think about DA..Quinn needs this time to play and develop..being a more technical type, he has to be given time to play..sure it's the growing pains but it's the only way to see if he really has it. And he can improve..but also the coaching staff has to put better pieces around him..Get real recievers out there ..if ya want Cribss on offense..move him to the slot..get the rookies in there full time..

I'd rather trade BQ than bench him, If we bench BQ than it means he ant got what we thought, and we should trade him. Start DA if he dosent have it, trade him, and start Ratcliff.
We need to stop this rotation of QB.
If the shirt dosent fit, ya dont keep washing it and tring it on again later hoping it changes, ya get rid of it.

Tell us exactly how DA "blew it". Gimme a break!
