I'm guessing that since they knew Edwards was gone after this year and his little incident, it was time to get something now vs. nothing later. Very similar thing the Indians seem to do every year as well, but on a wholesale scale.
I'm sure Braylon isn't going to mind being in the NY lights and media. Hopefully he remembers that he's a small fish in a big pond now.

NRTU Without a first in this deal, i will be very critical of it. Momass benefits from the coverage shifting to BE, Robo hasn't sniffed the field. IF you thought the offense was anemic with BE, just wait and see now. This trade was a step backward for this season. We weren't going to win many anyways so maybe no big deal. But for the future, we needed high draft picks out of trading Edwards- without those this trade is a bust.

Mort was on Mike & Mike this morning and said that the parking in other peoples spaces, the water bottle, it was all Braylon... He also said that the parking in other peoples spaces was a secretary at the facility, it was her spot and Mangini's point was, everybody is important, from the coach down to the secretarys but evidently Braylon thought he was more important than that. Well DC he needed to go..of course Braylon just so you know, you were traded because you went to Michigan, not because you are a receiver who can't catch the ball who acts like a complete jerk all the time.

Well, we'll see soon enough. I'm still skeptical that Braylon was sucking the coverage to him.
And really, Stuckey has been more productive than Braylon this year. I'm just happy that this clown is gone.
you had a good run Hank.

Mortenson said that All or most of those "problems" or "grievances" you've been hearing about with Browns...courtesy of Braylon Edwards.
I wonder if the union will try to intervene if they see this as a punishment for the grieveances.
At any rate, this might be addition by subtraction. I will say this, though: Braylon's potential on the field does force a defense to account for him. With that gone, it will make it harder to stretch defenses.

Perhaps... perhaps not.
If all of the negativity coming out was indeed mostly Braylon.... is it still any wonder why Braylon was disappearing on Gameday? Yes, he still commands coverage, but if he was dogging it, he was just occupying space.... and ANY receiver can do that.
At worst, we should be no different on Offense now that he is gone.

If we really had an offer this offseason that included a 1st and have now traded him to Mangini's former team for less than a first, I want heads to roll. What a joke, I wonder in Mangini even shopped around or if he just called the Jets.

j/c It is now being reported as a 3rd and 5th. If you believe Schefter... who seems to be trailing on the details in this story.
Browns get Stucky, Trusnick, and picks for Edwards Posted by Mike Florio on October 7, 2009 8:43 AM ET Details are emerging regarding the consideration the Browns have received for receiver Braylon Edwards from the Jets.
Per Adam Schefter of ESPN and Jay Glazer of FOX, the Browns get linebacker Jason Trusnick and draft picks.
Glazer reports that receiver Chansi Stucky is also part of the deal.
UPDATE: Glazer reports there are two draft picks; Schefter says they're believed to be a third-round pick and a fifth-round pick. web page

Isn't it pretty obvious that BE was leaving at the end of the year anyway? Then we get nothing.. so whatever we got for him, aren't we ahead?

I doubt the union will do anything, although they may look into it. But, they probably look into everything (as they're supposed to).
If we were sitting Braylon down or making him inactive as punishment for grievances, then, yes, I think the union would be all over it.
But, I have a feeling Braylon is jumping for joy on this. So the union likely won't look at it as "punishment."
I think defenses did have to account for him. We'll see very quickly how our offense does without him. But, then again, our offense has been "without him" for a while (I understand that his mere presence did something to the defense).
I remember an ESPN the magazine article about him a year or so ago, and he said he wanted to be the biggest deal in Cleveland. Well, with Lebron in town, Braylon was never going to be the biggest thing. Hence the jealousy.
But I think we all need to be prepared to read about all the horribleness going on under Mangini. Braylon is going to open the flood gates and talk about how horrible Mangini is, how mean he is, what a dictator, etc.
I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

LOL, just wait'll he drops a couple on a Sunday in a big game... he's gonna want to be as far away from NY as humanly possible because he won't be able to handle the criticism.
A 2nd and 4th sounds a LOT better than a 3rd and 5th. Either way, he's a prima donna so good riddance.

trusnick blows...nothing more than a guy like costanzo
stuckey is a marginal pickup at best
those draft picks better include a 1st
While I agree with the Trunsik comment because he only played on special teams recorded 6 tackles 4 solo and 1 FR... so there isn't much about him Stuckey MARGINAL?? he's 11 rec for 120 yrd and caught Sanchez first ever TD pass.. the kid runs tight routes and he DOESN'T DROP THE BALL 0 fumbles so far
I will be SHOCKED we get a first round pick im guessing a 2nd and 4th or 5th
EITHER WAY i'm glad to see his non preforming whinning arse is out of here see ya you prima donna nut case

Well, we'll need about 100 to make this team any better...so it's a good start. Bye, bye, Braylon.

Crapshoot. I agree with DC, getting "something" is better than an after-season nothing.

I am certainly no cap guru, but maybe if the Jets work out a new deal with Braylon, it won't affect us at all (or as much). Correct me if I'm wrong.

First, we don't know that we ever had that offer. Secondly, I'm pretty sure if we did have that offer and Mangini could see into the future for what we'd get today, he'd have made the deal. Unfortunately his crystal ball into the future isn't as clear as our hindsight. Also, Braylon hasn't done anything but lower his own value so far this season. It's a joke to think we'd get a first for this guy.

Wow, I was looking for them to ship him out for a RT. The writing was on the wall. Mangini doesn't seem to be one to allow the inmates to run the asylum.
If I remember correctly, he pulled the same thing on the Jets for a while and then started to lighten up after everyone got the message.
I'm OK with the trade. No matter how it looks in 20/20 hindsight it had to be done. Edwards will light it up in New York for a while and then the rot will set in all over again.
I can't wait to see what our team looks like on Sunday. Shoot, I can't wait to see who is actually ON the team on Sunday.

Honestly, even a 2nd and 4th sounds like more than we're likely to get.....
Braylon Edwards is going to end up blowing up in the next couple weeks and making the browns look terrible, because his head is actually going to be in the game.... but as soon as that starts fading and he drifts out of it again, he'll start to show his colors.
There was no way Braylon was going to be around next year, and there's no way we're competing this year, so getting a 7th and a used roll of toilet paper for him would have made sense for this team.

Why?? We got rid of a prima donna baby who lately has been dropping more passes than catching, is the center of pretty much every locker room quarrel and grievance and was pretty much a 100% lock NOT to resign here next year. He quit on the team last year, and the only thing he's worked hard to do is become the biggest team cancer he can possibly be. He may have all the physical tools of a dominant receiver but he's got the mind of a Ryan Leaf. If anyone refers to him as "chiseled", they are talking about how his hands were made.
Bottom line, he wasn't going to help us win games this year, and he was as good as gone next year. If we got a roll of athletic tape for him, we came out miles ahead.
Thank gawd he's gone!

I'm surprised by the - we better get a 1st comments...
really? A first?
Why? Who in their right mind would give a first for Braylon?
Other than the fact we spent a first on him, what justifies a first for him, his production and off-field issues?

Actually I believe we have 11 picks. Regular picks 1-7 +1 for the KW2 deal (5th round) +1 for the Louis Leonard deal (prob a 7th since he went to IR) +2 for Edwards (if the two picks are true; either 2nd/4th or 3rd/5th. IF both are for this upcoming draft and one isn't for 2011.)
Since it's doubtful that Stuckey will be up to speed with our entire O, I would think we will get to see Robo out there this Sunday. Hate assuming, but that is probably a safe one to make.

Statistics are like a bikini; what they show is interesting, but what they hide is vital. Drive for show (1st round), Putt for dough (rest of draft).

I'm happy he is gone. I wish we would have done it sooner though. He had 4 games to show everyone how much he sucked...again....thus dropping his value a little more. Good riddance!!
