Well I was in some pain yesterday after getting up about 10am, but tried to fight it off and go to work. My left flank area in my back was hurting pretty good, but I went to work anyways. I work in a hospital and figured if it got unbearable I can run down to ER. Well at 4pm it went away, so I figured if I had a kidney stone, it must have passed.
Wrong.
I was rudely woken up by excruciating pain in the same area. Much worse than yesterday. To the point where I couldn't even catch my breath. I am normally off the weekends, but picked up half a shift for someone I worked with so he could attend a funeral. Well I had to call off and head to ER. The did a CT scan and I do have a stone and it's small enough to pass- I hope. The pain is better now, but still there. Hopefully it's moving so I can pass it, and it's not just masked from the pain meds.
For anyone else who's ever had a kidney stone, I'm sure you know how miserable it is.

I was there last September. Kidney stones AND kidney failure. Probaly the worst experience of my life. Thank God for morphine. I hope for all the best. It's going to be a [censored] when they pass though.

I've never had them, but I have heard horror stories about the pain they cause.
I'm hoping I'm lucky enough not to ever get them.
Get well soon.
LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

Kidney Stones are the men equivelent of the pain women giving birth feel. I had one and OMG. Makes my back pain feel like nothing. They actually had to use a laser to make it smaller so I could get it out of me. Like nasty said, thank God for morphine and percocets

Morphine made getting crushed between 2 cars and an exposed kneecap feel like a flight through the clouds. Mmmmm good stuff.

I can tell I do admit when I first got hurt and had to take them they made me feel real good. Now they are the only thing that really works for my spinal pain and I don't feel a high or anything.
Just don't snort em.

Some of my friends smoke weed and are all hard working good people. It's the hard [censored] that people start messing their lives up over. Lying, stealing and robbing to get a fix once the money runs out. One ex-friend of mine smokes crack and just got out of jail for forging checks he stole from his 80 year old grandma. In HS he was a cool dude. Now he is a wreck living in his dad's basement not working, just doing stuff for crack.

Well the way the thread turned into the talk about the drugs you take to ease the pain of the kidney stone, it evolved into this.

One of my buddies has them. When he's in serious pain he lays down on the couch/bed in the fetal position with a pillow between his legs.
Poor guy, he's had everything from vicodin, morphine, and even methodone and all they do is give alittle releif, they don't kill the pain.

Oh my! Kidney stones SUCK!!!!!!! I had them 10 years ago and can strill remember the pain vividly. I was in the ER twice within 12 hours for them too.
On my second trip, they kept me waiting for THREE f'in hours before they gave me pain killers. Gave me a shot of demerol, knocked me out fo 20 minutes, I woke up in pain and got another shot before the pain went away.
Worst freakin' pain I've ever been in in my entire life. Percocets are what they sent me home with and they were a God-send.

My bro-in-law gets them a lot. He gets the acid kind and his doctor said it's from drinking Mt Dew. He seriously drinks a crapload of dew. I can't imagine having them again let alone multiple times, OWWW!

Thanks dear. It's been 10 years and no more kidney stones. I listened to my urologist and cut out the things he told me to. I never wanted to go through another one of his exams again (nasty tasty stuff that makes your body do nasty things so he can xray ya). UGH! I'm all good now!

I have recurring kidney stones & my doctor put me on Urocit-K which has pretty much stopped them from forming. When I first got them, it was like being hit in the back with a baseball bat. When they took the x-ray, the doc said the stone was about the size of a peanut M & M so they went up through me (the area I won't mention) with, what I not so affectionate call, the "jaws of life" and tried to extract it. Oddly enough, the doc didn't find it & I think I would've remembered passing it. To reiterate previous posts, kidney stones are NOT fun!

I had one a few years back ..... and let me second the "thank goodness for morphine" sentiment from another poster. lol They said it was comparable to the pain a woman experiences during childbirth. t was at that very moment that I realized that all women must then be insane for ever wanting a 2nd child.

Yeah I hear those childbirth comparisons, but I also talked to a few women who said that the pain with the kidney stones was worse than childbirth.
You're supposed to keep active to help pass the stones, but I've been in bed most of the day. Every time I get up, the pain starts to worsen. It's still nothing like I had this morning, but the longer I'm out of bed, the worse it gets, so I end up back in bed again. Man, this morning was just absolutely horrible. I couldn't sit still, I was pacing around, laying on the ground, up again, pacing, waiting for someone to pick me up to take me to E.R. My wife had to be somewhere so her mom was coming . The pain literally was taking my breath away. I started to get light headed since I wasn't breathing properly.
My step-mom just called and said Lemonade is supposed to help dissolve it, and luckily I have a brand new jug of it here. Anybody here that one before?

Wow, same thread on the UK site I go too. I had one around two years ago, and it was the first time I experienced morphine. I understand how folks can get hooked. I layed there and watched the Reds come back from being 6 down too the Cubs, and I swear it was the best game I ever watched. I feel for you, and hope it passes soon. That can be fun also. Well I hope it doesn't ruin your Super Bowl plans, and don't get hooked on them Percs.

I had one several years ago. It was small enough to pass on my own. Pretty painful stuff there....worse than giving birth!
The morphine I was given was pretty awesome [censored] though!

Still have the stone. Hasn't passed so I guess I'll be calling the urologist tomorrow. 3 days of this is getting old.
I didn't get the morphine, I got Toradol, Demerol and Phenergan. Made me a bit woozy.

Not sure what they'll do if I don't pass it. They said it's small enough to pass, but it's been 3 days now. I'll call the urologist tomorrow and see if they want me to wait it out more, or do either a cystoscopy to retrieve it or lithotripsy. All I know is I want it gone.
