Oklahoma State wideout Bryant to enter NFL Draft
Nov. 6, 2009
CBSSports.com wire reports
http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball...enter-nfl-draft

STILLWATER, Okla. -- Oklahoma State wide receiver Dez Bryant is headed to the NFL.

Bryant told ESPN.com that he plans to enter the 2010 NFL Draft, disclosing his intentions late Thursday after the NCAA rejected a final appeal by the school to reinstate the junior All-American who lied about contact with former NFL player Deion Sanders.

Bryant sat out five games while the NCAA investigated his offseason meeting with Sanders at a Texas athletic center. Bryant admitted that he lied to an NCAA investigator about the meeting and later apologized.

Bryant told ESPN.com that entering the draft is "the best decision for me" and that he will start training for the NFL combine next week in Florida.

"This year didn't go the way I wanted it to," Bryant said. "It was so hard. And to be honest, I had my head down at times. But the NCAA has made their decision. And I respect that. And now I've made mine."

Bryant caught 87 passes for 1,480 yards and 19 touchdowns last season while also scoring twice on punt returns. He was the only one of three finalists for the Biletnikoff Award left in school this year.

In a letter to the NCAA that accompanied his request for reinstatement, Bryant had asked to be allowed to play again this season for the 18th-ranked Cowboys (6-2, 3-1 Big 12). The NCAA decided last week that Bryant should be suspended until next September, OSU appealed and the final word came Thursday from the NCAA's Student-Athlete Reinstatement Committee.

Bryant told ESPN.com he hopes to live up to the NFL production of receivers including Randy Moss and Anquan Boldin.

"When I talk to the NFL, I'm going to be truthful with them about what happened," he said. "It will be what I'm supposed to tell them, which is the truth."

I know Im going to get bashed for saying this because alot of fans didnt like any of the browns 2nd round picks that were WRs. I dont mind a second round WR but every year the browns take one in the 2nd round Im saying "why didnt they take this WR if they need a WR?" I wanted Antonio Bryant over Andre Davis and I want Chad Johnson over Quincy Morgan. I didnt like the Northcutt, Robiskie, or Massaqui pick at the time either. I wasnt happy with those selections and wanted someone else. I wanted Maulege over Robiskie, (no where near alone on that) and I forget who I wanted over cutt but i didnt want him thats for sure.

I wouldnt mind Bryant or Golden Tate in the 2nd round. If they are available of course. I would rather have a big time TE that has slid out of the first round. They can usually contribute for the offense quicker than a WR. Plus the blocking helps. The TEs are old and need upgraded asap. The Browns need a WR bigtime but they need a vet WR. If they cant get a decent WR in FA, then Bryant or Tate would be an upgrade over any WR currently on the team. I think both WRs are going to have good career. better than Robiskie and probabley Mass. I think one of those guys if not both will have better careers than Braylon. Braylon had 2 injury filled seasons, one Pro Bowl, led the league in drops the next year and didnt do squat escept for a game or 2 in NY. I think Tate will be better and if falls to the 2nd round he would be a nice pickup. Possibley Bryant too but I never got to watch him play before he was injured. Ill let you southerners tell me how good he is.

Give up on Bryant in the 2nd. He's probably gonna go top 15, maybe higher. Not a huge Tate fan personally, but a lot of people are. Drops too many balls for me.

Not everyone sees the drops, they see him make insane spectacular catches like he had last week in the endzone, where he *gasp* used his hands, not his body to catch the ball, something we are not used to here in Cleveland. Other than the random highlight though, I haven't seen much of him. I can't stand watching ND, unless they're being demolished by a team.

I think we need to get our RB playmaker this year (Dwyer, Blount, Matthews) and get our WR playmaker next year (Julio Jones, Michael Floyd, D. Posey, and many more)

I would love to somehow go.... Eric Berry, Jonathan Dwyer, and best RT, LB, or QB with the first 3 picks. (hopefully Braylon gets us an extra 2nd)

I'm keeping hope that we already have our WR's. Heck, even James Davis could be something. We just gotta go BPA.

I am hoping we have our WRs as well. I would like to see them in an offensive system with a real qb first though.
I am not a beliver in blount. He doesn't impress me. We are so devoid of top talent on this team that we HAVE to go BPA, with maybe the exception of C and LT.

I'm watching Nebraska now and this is the first time I've gotten to watch Suh. This guy is a stud. I wouldn't mind seeing him on the DL next to Rogers.

Suh is a monster. He would be a great addition to our team. I thought Dwyer once again looked very solid as well. I got a chance to watch some of Sindle in the Texas game, and I am uncertain on him. I want to see him in a full game or two before I reserve my judgement. Any other players really stand out to you guys this Saturday?

I tell ya a guy i thought looked good today was that QB from Stanford, Luck, he's only a freshman though. If we go QB in the draft the 2 i like are Locker and Keenum if they come out.

I didn't see too much out of Rolando McClain in the limited action I saw. Didn't seem to make many plays or even be around the ball...

I didn't get to watch the game, but when I've watched him in the past, he's always in the backfield making plays. I've also heard that he's very smart.

You, like many others, seem to advocate taking the BPA approach. It makes sense to me.

However, if the BPA projects to be a C, NT, or LT...we will go the dreaded "BPA at a position of need" route...which qualifies the BPA to BPAAAPON.

Anyway...I am curious who are your unqualified top (5) BPAs. Help me out with positions and teams as I am not a huge college FB fan. (My apologies if that opinion is already buried/presented somewhere in this thread.)

I'm an advocate of BPA for the team. It simply means whoever will help the team the most, in the short term or long term. Combination of BPA and need, centering more on BPA, especially with the current Browns. My top guys at this point:

1. Ndamukong Suh DT Nebraska Sr.
2. Eric Berry S Tenenssee Jr.
3. Gerald McCoy DT Oklahoma Jr.
4. Rolando McClain LB Alabama Jr.
5. Dez Bryant WR Oklahoma St. Jr.

Of those the only guy I wouldn't want the Browns to take is Bryant, and I wouldn't want us to take McClain until later. I don't like taking an inside linebacker top 5, especially when we already have a MIKE.

I think it was Candyman, but we made a sig bet earlier, and I'm almost certainly gonna be proved wrong. Damn Gerald McCoy for not being as awesome as last year and Suh for being a complete stud.

Do you project the DTs as DEs for us?

Do you see Berry at S or CB?

I personally see Berry as a SS.

Suh and Mccoy would be great DEs in a 3-4 defense. I've compared Suh to Richard Seymour.

Yes, they'd both be DE's and studs. I like Berry at free safety, but he could be a very good corner as well.

To further your argument about playing him at safety: Safety, IMO is the most important position on the defensive field.

No way I move him to corner. Good safety play is so vital to a good defense.

Agreed on both. Free Safety is arguably the most important position on defense. Berry would unquestionably in my mind be a roamer in the mold of what Sharper is doing in New Orleans this year.

He'd be an ideal addition from what I've seen. And I would have no problem taking him #1.

I love a good safety but I won't go that far. I'd say a stud end/pass rusher is most important followed by the MIKE then safety.

The Colts D with and without Bob Sanders, the Steelers D with and without Polamalu, Ravens with and without Reed, how much Dawkins has meant to the Broncos D, etc.

All those defenses are mortal when these guys are out. Pass rush isn't as effective, run D isn't as effective, etc.

Just stating my case as to why I think a safety is most important.

Colts D without Dwight Freeney, Steelers without James Harrison and the Ravens without Suggs. I can understand the argument, and depending on when you ask me I'll put safety ahead of MIKE, but I think the end is the most important.

My only argument for that is that those 3 guys you mentioned have another great pass rusher to help them out.

Freeney has Robert Mathis

Harrison has Lamar Woodley

Suggs has Ray Lewis and they used to have Bart Scott

Who do the safeties have to help them out?

I could make the argument that the other guys are a product of double teams and added attention focused towards the primary guy. Also, Ray Lewis has never been an affective pass rusher.

I disagree, you put any of those guys I mentioned on another team and they would still be studs.

Which circles back to your original argument. The pass rushers would still be studs without the others.

I gues I should have explained better

I mostly agree with what you were saying. However almost every elite pass rusher has someone to help them. An elite safety doesn't get help and is ofter the "last line of defense" so to speak.

I'm not arguing the importance of safety. I just think the pass rush is the most important defensive element and what makes a defense good or elite. Ask Dick LeBeau, Rex Ryan, or Steve Spagnuala. And the pass rusher is also one of the first guys there against the run.

You are right on this one. If you had the choice of a franchise end or safety, you take the end every time. How many safeties have gone #1 compared to ends?? If you have a good pass rush, you could have average corners in my opinion.

It all starts upfront.

James Harrison's sacks and QB pressures were way down without Polamalu in the lineup.

As both the pro and college seasons progress, I made a few changes...with comments for the first 5 guys

Round 1) Russell Okung, OT (Oklahoma State)
- lets fix the right side of the line first
Round 2) Sergio Kindle, OLB (Texas)
- lets see if he drops out of the first - a few of the sites have him doing that and we couldn't pass him up if that happened
Round 3a) Toby Gerhart, RB (Stanford)
- the more I see of this kid, the more I'd love to see him wearing Brown and Orange next year
Round 3b) Tony Pike, QB (Cincinnati)
- I have a feeling we pick up someone in FA (Clemens, Pennington???), but we'll need a guy to grow into the system. I don't believe DA will be on the team and am not convinced Quinn is the guy)
Round 4) Austin Pettis, WR (Boise State)
- only a Junior and may not come out, but I hope he does. 6'3", 200 lbs with average speed (4.5-.4.6) and excellent hands
Round 5a) Darian Stewart, S (South Carolina)
Round 5b) Thomas Austin, OG (Clemson)
Round 6a) D'Anthony Smith, DE (La Tech)
Round 6b) Dedrick Epps, TE (Miami)
Round 7) Pat Angerer, ILB (Iowa)

Like Okung, but we are probably picking top 3, not that 'it's too early for him', and I am always for fixing the line and getting linemen, I just think there will be much higher rated players available (Berry ).

Would love to see Kindle drop to us in round 2.

Can't argue with the Gerhart pick; except in my earlier scenario (of your mock) I would address the RT position now (Calloway or Fox).

Like Pike, but I think he goes earlier than 3rd round (if he comes back and proves he is healthy (which will be tough with how Collaros has played). I like LeFevour a bit better as well (but also think he will go in round 2).

Pettis is good, but I like Riley Cooper from fla, faster and just as good hands.

Stewart is OK, not a favorite of mine, but not against him. In my scenario I have addressed the S position with Berry.

Love the Austin pick, think he is very underrated.

Also like D'Anthony Smith, however I think he goes earlier, but if there he would be a great pick in round 6.

Epps also a good pick. I like Overbay as well in teh later rounds, reminds me of Heiden.

Angerer will be long gone by round 7, or should be, if there another steal.

Overall a good mock. As realistic as anyother at this time.

Statistics are like a bikini; what they show is interesting, but what they hide is vital.

The only common denominator is that good defense has a great pass rusher, a great run stuffing MLB and a great play making safety.

Let's get all three...

you had a good run Hank.

If we end up with the first pick of the draft.. I don't know who is worth that spot..

a QB? but I do not want a freaking QB....

I want Eric Berry.. I guess the other option would be Suh of Nebraska.. I think our d-line is actually decent this year though.. Man I hope we don't get the first pick.

I like Okung, but I think he'd be a huge failure at RT. I think he'll struggle bad enough on the right side. I'd love for Kindle to drop, but I don't consider it likely. Like the Gehret pick and Pike wouldn't be bad if he's there, but I'm far from sold on him.

I keep hearing the Browns have 11 picks in 2010 draft, but i only count 10? where's the 11th?

1 - 1
2 - 2
3 - 3a
4 - 3b
5 - 4
6 - 5a
7 - 5b
8 - 6a
9 - 6b
10 - 7

What am I missing?
