I believe we must go Berry in round 1 no matter what!
If Berry is off the board then maybe take a QB like Locker or Clausen. I would also consider Ndamukong Suh, but I don't think we should try to fix something that really isn't broken. I think Ogbanasse (or whatever) would be a better fit later in the draft so I would maybe a guy like Dez Bryant after trading back?
I am not going to attempt to play a 7 round mock, but these are the guys I really like for our team...
Eric Berry Jimmy Clausen Jake Locker Jonathan Dwyer C.J. Spiller (reminds me of Chris Johnson) Dez Bryant Victor Ogbanase Jerry Hughes George Selvie Rolando McClain Brandon Spikes Jermaine Gresham Sam Bradford (if he falls to the 2nd) Sam Young Ciron Black Kurt Coleman (really proving himself this year) Ryan Matthews Ed Dickson Trent Williams

Alright guys, due to work, I was unable to watch much football this Weekend. One thing that stood out to me from what I did see was that Mays's stock is falling, due to team performance and hasn't looked the same TO ME, since he played Ohio State. And who in the world is Oregon State's back up RB? He looked sensational tonight.

Supposedly Mays got dinged up in the OSU game. That's what I heard some announcers saying. They attributed this to why he hasn't been playing as well as expected.
I have never been very high on mays. Just passing along an fyi.

I know there is partial OSU homerism to this question but Thaddeus Gibson next year (not the 2010 draft) looks like a possible 3-4 OLB. The guy can flow and get to the QB. Was a LB in HS. Strong and fast. High motor guy. Possibility. Just saying. That defensive line is real stout. I bet Heyward will do alright as a pro, too.

Mays, to me, looks like Brodney Pool when he is out there. Takes too long to read the play and is not very good at pass defense. Seems to always be late to the play.
On the other hand, Berry is making huge hits and getting INTs all the time, always seeming to know where the ball will be before everyone else.
you had a good run Hank.

I pray Mays falls....and he should...only Al Davis could screw it up. IMO Mays has always been a mid teens guy.....and hopefully that slide...will at least put him in the mid teens...if not mid 20's My Steeler Mock with rumored COMP picks added. the rumor is a 3rd for McFadden, a 4th for Nate Washington, and a 6th for Byron Leftwhich.....more likely is two 4th rounders...but I will go with what has been guessed using JT's formula (as much of it as he has released) 1) TRADE INTO THE MID TEENS for FS Taylor Mays - USC 2) DE Vince Oghobaase - DUKE 3) TRADED for MAYS 3bCOMP) C Matt Tennant - Boston College 4) LB Micah Johnson - Kentucky 4bCOMP)G Brandon Carter Texas Tech 5) TRADED for MAYS 6) SS Kurt Coleman - OSU 6bCOMP) RB LeGarrette Blount - Oregon 7) T Marlon Winn Texas Tech Draft talk is always fun HACK

Talking draft with a friend of mine and he mentioned a lber from Texas and another from Mizz that he was interested in for the browns. He couldnt think of their names, anyone know who he was talking about and any insight into what you guys know/saw of them this season?

The LB from Texas is probably Sergio Kindle and Missouri's is Weatherspoon.

I am a big fan of Sean Weatherspoon. He is a big leader who isn't afraid to play rough and tumble.

Could also be talking about Muckelroy from TX. Leads the team in tackles, he is their middle backer and a pretty good one at that. I would take him over spikes, not only based on spikes' 'dirty play' (and probable suspension) but he has good read/react time to fill the holes (hence the leading tackler). Spikes will most likely go sooner, but Muck could be there in the 3rd/4th, not that we need to pick another ILB.

If Muck is there in the 3rd or 4th somebody will get an aboslute steal of a football player. I think he is better suited to play the will in a 4-3 though. But I would not be disapointed if we drafted him. He is literally always around the ball (run or pass) and a good tackler too.
Another Longhorn to watch is Earl Thomas. If he comes out (he is a redshirt soph) he could eb had maybe in the second...>Fingers Crossed...and we could pass on Berry. Earl Thomas is the best weve have (which includes Huff, the two griffins, Ross, Brown, Jammer, Vasher). I would take Earl not over berry, but if he could be had later we could fill two needs maybe.

I think Spikes is overrated personally. He's gonna drop. Not that athletic with questionable instincts. I wouldn't even take him in the 2nd with how deep this class is.

I'd take him in the 3rd but we may have to look at drafting tendencies to be honest if we do indeed have a new GM.

Who are some guys you like better? I am just trying to get some names to keep track of on Saturday, makes it more entertaining/interesting to watch games from teams I could care less about. Outside of McClain and Spikes, I am not aware of good ILBers coming out (Which I think is a huge issue on the Browns, DQ is solid, but not a game changer/play maker IMO. His lack of ability for shedding blocks, pass rushing and undersized for his position limits him).

All the guys Hack listed are good. Here's a thought: David Veikune will beast it up next to D'Qwell, and we're good at ILB.
It isn't that great of a class for inside guys. Weatherspoon and McClain could both be studs in a 3-4, but other than them there are no game changers.
Really good for d-line and pass rusher though.

Just to name another ILB to watch is Pat Angerer from Iowa. Great name. Also a good player, 3rd/4th most likely.

I've been looking for pass rushers when watching college f-ball this year and I agree there seem to be quite a few good ones.
Suh / McCoy from the DL (not sure Cody is going to be as beastly as pass-rusher as some are)
Kindle, Norwood and Dunlap are my favorite 3-4 OLB guys that I have seen.
I've seen Hughes (TCU) as being one of the legitimate 3-4 OLB guys mentioned too.....anyone seen him play?

Suh and McCoy would both be stud ends for us. Mount Cody is a nose with no pass rushing skills.
Everson Griffen might be my favorite pass rusher. I'm very high on Hughes and Brandon Graham as well.

I am super high on Hughes. I hope he manages to fall to us in the 2nd. Doubt it but maybe he will be an inch shorter than listed in the TCU program and that will cause him to plummet I am not familiar with Everson Griffen. Tell us about him. Who does he play for?

Another freakish athlete at USC. Personally I think considering the hype he got he was a bust at USC.

I've actually heard that a lot of teams like Hughes better as a 4-3 end. Not very big though.
Griffen is a speed pass rusher from USC. Tweener size. Only a junior though.

I think Hughes could be a very good 4-3 DE but I personally believe he was made to be a 3-4 OLB. He is a tremendous athlete. If I remember correctly he played Rb in high school and converted to defense after going to TCU.
I've said this before about Hughes that if he goes to a 3-4 team, in 3 years people will be talking about him the way they are about Dumerville now.

Where does Rolando McClain 6'4" 258 lbs, Junior, MLB, Alabama project in the draft if he comes out? Don't know much about him but I will be watching him in the next coming weeks.

At this point it's early, but I'd say top 15 and maybe top 10. He's a stud. But with the way the draft goes, he could end up falling out of the 1st. I don't think it's likely though.

I think he's a top 10 pick. He's an absolute beast/playmaker. He's in my top 3, can't decide between him, Berry, or Suh.

I'm with you, but I'm not sure he's that high....if he turns out to be a Ray Lewis type player then I don't care how high we take him

It is very difficult to project his draft position at this point. I have seen some draft prognosticators call him a "poor man's Aaron Curry" . Since Curry went 4th that would mean to me 5-10 or 15 to me. However, there are some confounding factors. 1st being that this draft is pretty talented at the top. 2nd being that ILB's tend to fall (see DeMeko Ryans, Laurenitis, Maualuga). As a further confounding factor, he is reportedly versatile enough to play inside or outside Lb.

I've seen the "poor man's Curry" too, and I hate it. I think they're very different players. I see McClain more as a poor man's Patrick Willis.
I'm not gonna put him near the level of Suh, Berry, or McCoy though.

Spikes is a 2nd rounder, but McClain is gonna get picked like Mayo or Willis. The good ones go high.

Well Willis is a SPECIAL player, doesn't come around very often, so to be a poor man's Willis isn't a a negative to me.
