Go to ER. Tell them you are about to vomit (always bypass everyone else that way). Request morphine. Smile.

I'm waiting for the urologist to call me back to see when they can get me in. I'm trying to avoid the ER, but if it gets bad enough and they can't get me in, I'll end up going.

Ask him how he'd like a kick to the kidney. Tell him to either prescribe something good, or you are on your way.

I'd head to the ER now, they'll probably admit you anyway after three days of this. Just let them laser that sucker out of there!! You'll get better drugs in the hospital anyway!!

I've had three kidney stones in my life.

The last one was when Lama and I were in Baltimore. We spent some quality time at "Have No" Mercy Hospital. But I did have some nice painkillers in time for the game. Frost's 7 yard punt hardly phased me.

Get to the ER, 017! They have good drugs.

She's not kidding about have no mercy, the security guard practically beat her with a stick for trying to get comfortable across two chairs. He did pull one of them out from under her.

What a bunch of jerks. Seriously, if I ever had a kidney stone again and someone did that to me, I would pee on his leg! If I could pee, might hurt too much actually, well then I would sick Lama on him!

Good. People who take up 2 seats in the ER waiting room and people who take up 2 parking spots, either because they don't know how to park or think their car is move valuable than others, both deserve to be beaten like the selfish dogs they are...

Actually the pain has eased up. I haven't taken a Vic in quite a while now. I think I took one at 4am. I feel a twinge every now and then, but I've been straining all my urine and haven't seen it. I think it has moved down more. I figured since I've been up for a while it would start to get worse, but it hasn't. Usually when I'm up out of bed, that's when it gets bad. I've been up since about 10 and doing pretty well. They called me back from the urologist and can't see me till tomorrow. Which sucks. But since I'm starting to feel better, hopefully I'll be fine till then, otherwise I'll head to ER.

Good to hear. Hope it's passed unnoticed. Nothing like the relief when it's gone. Good Luck!

Nothing.

My distaste for doctors and the evil things they do to you has nothing to do with being macho.

Nothing they could do is worse than the pain of a kidney stone, imo.

I'm sure the discomfort of a catheter pales in comparison to the wrath of a kidney stone. I'm hoping this pain stays away. Like I said, it eased up quite a bit, and haven't had a bad attack since early this morning.

Never had one, so I will take your word. For me, the sights, sounds, and smells of doctor offices/hospitals is something I just don't do as a choice.

Earlier there was a phobia thread....I should have mentioned this there.....seriously...I think I would just rather die.

When I was strapped to a gurney in the ER after taking a spill at CBS earlier this year, I remember telling the paramedic who was with me something to the effect of, "I'm hammered, and I've gotta pee, and there is no way I'm getting a catheder" - hence, I had to do it laying supine, still strapped in. Still better than getting something in an "exit-only" opening.

I guess so.....but so will we all. I will just avoid all the jabbing, cutting, inserting things, and all that other stuff.

Ya'll can do that if you choose....I choose not.

Of course I am overstating a bit.....but really, not that much.

I have to agree with Jules. You won't understand until you go through it. It started for me Friday, and I said to myself if I go to ER, I don't want any narcotics. I can sit through this....

Well Saturday morning came and I had the most horrific indescribable pain ever. It literally brings you to your knees and takes your breath away. I turned white as a sheet. At that point, I wanted anything that would ease that pain away. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

5 days, still stuck in me. This friggin' sucks. I can't afford to miss too much work since I've missed so much because of my daughter, and I've also had a string of getting sick a few times since December. I attempted to tough it out and go to work after leaving the urologist today. The pain had been better, but I guess it was due to the fact I've been taking it easy. Soon as I started walking around the hospital I got miserable. Needless to say I came home and was in agony. It's eased up. The stone is only a 2mm stone so he says there a really good chance, like 99% that it should pass. Maybe I need to drink more water, because it hasn't. I have hydronephrosis, which is basically some swelling and backing up due to the stone, and blood in the urine. I gotta go for an IVP study Thursday to make sure the swelling doesn't get worse and obstruct the ureter which could cause some kidney failure.

If I don't pass it by then and if the IVP study looks worse, he may just take me in to remove it. I'm hoping to avoid that, but a week of kidney stone pain is enough. He said it may take a week or so to pass. He also started me on some Flomax which is actually for prostate problems, but the theory is that is relaxes the smooth muscles and may help it to pass easier.
