I don't know why..but when I saw the Quinn video and him answering questions about why he's selling his house it made me think of the Chic- Fil- A commericals of the Cows pulling those silly stunts to get people to eat more chicken..DA pulling some stunts to get Quinn traded..heehe..

The fact that you watched a video of Quinn saying he is selling his house says all we need to know.

To be honest with you Pdawg I did record that game and erased it before even looking at it again. It sucked so bad I couldn't bear to re-watch all the bad throws and dropped balls to scrutinize who or what was at fault. I felt I had better things to do with my time than puking in a bucket.
All I saw is what I saw in real time and what I saw was a pretty equal mix of bad passes and balls bouncing off of hands.
I think timing was a big issue. We all know that. Receivers get to their break, turn, and a rocket hits them in the face. Who's fault is that? It depends on if you hate DA or Royal more. If you hate Royal then he broke too late. If you hate DA then he threw too late or too hard. More to the truth is that their timing is off for lack of playing together. That sort of thing has happened a few times now. Good looking passes bouncing off hands, face masks and numbers.
Timing.
p.s. I only mentioned the hate because I don't believe I've seen so much of it against so many specific players before. (If your name's not Joe Thomas or Josh Cribbs you are hated by somebody on here.)
Then there is the rookie WR's who are in the beginning stages of learning the pro position. They don't have the experience of finding the soft spots in coverage nor are they able to read the defense and come up with the same read as DA. Practically no ability to help their QB. That goes for Cribbs as well when he's a WR.
Edwards took more pressure off the rest of them than they realized. Look at what MoMass did vs. a much better defense, (cincy), with Braylon out there vs. what he did vs. a much worse defense, (Bills), without him.
I was and still am on board with the BE trade but he did get the defenses attention and that's missing now.
They'll come along. They have to because they're all we've got. As they gain experience together the timing will get better, the routes will get better and the reads will get better. But it's going to take some time.
It was a disgusting game to watch. Although the defense did very well, the special teams were spectacular and the running game was great, it was very disappointing to watch such a performance from the offense.
DA gets the second half of a tough game starting from way behind and promptly throws 3 picks. Oh well, that game was not going to be won in that second half anyway.
The next game his defense and special teams gift wraps a win for the offense but instead of accepting the gift they falter toward the end and just can't muster enough yards to get in field goal range.
In the third game the defense and special teams gift wraps the offense another win but it's a 2 of 17 for 23 yards passing effort from the offense, (one for the record books I assume), and in the end it's the special teams who had to win the game with a fumble recovery and a field goal. Except for Jamal's rushing attack, the Browns could have run a high school offense out there and got as much of an offensive contribution.
So we've seen a half of Bad DA, then pretty Good DA for most of a whole game, then the ultimate Pathetic DA from the coin flip to the winning field goal in which he and the offense played no contributing part in.
I hope this adds up to a Really Good DA next week. If the defense and special teams can keep up the good work and Really Good DA shows up then we just might take one from the Steelers if our young receivers get it in gear.

Browns say they aren't shopping benched QB Quinn Oct. 14, 2009 CBSSports.com wire reports http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/story/12362334 BEREA, Ohio -- The only trade Brady Quinn is seeking is to swap neighborhoods. Benched as Cleveland's starting quarterback 10 quarters into the season, Quinn said Wednesday that he has not asked Browns coach Eric Mangini to trade him and that he only put his suburban home up for sale because he wants to downsize and shorten his commute. Although the Oct. 20 trading deadline is looming, Mangini said he has no interest in dealing Quinn. "We're not looking to move Brady Quinn," Mangini said Wednesday. "We get calls all the time that we listen to, but Brady is a Cleveland Brown and it's not anything we're looking to do." Mangini has shown a willingness to trade high-profile players. He has already dealt Kellen Winslow and Braylon Edwards, who like Quinn, are former first-round draft picks. Quinn beat out Derek Anderson to be Cleveland's starter but lost his job following lopsided losses to Minnesota and Denver and a poor first-half performance against Baltimore. Although he's frustrated at being back on the sideline, Quinn said he will not demand a trade. "That's not my nature to do something like that," Quinn said. "I've got a contract here with the Browns and I intend to play that out." What about in the offseason? "That's a long time away," he said. "There's a lot of football ahead of us. There's no reason to look past this week for us right now." As for putting his five-bedroom, five-bathroom house in Avon Lake on the market, Quinn said the timing is just coincidence. He's not anticipating a trade. "No, that indicates a house is for sale," Quinn said. "I appreciate the free advertising. Hopefully I'll get a bid. It's a private issue that doesn't have anything to do with what we're here for -- preparing for Pittsburgh. I'm a guy who doesn't want to drive 30 minutes to the facility every day. I'm a bachelor who lives in a house that has maybe too much upkeep for me." Quinn has been a model teammate since his demotion. He has not publicly complained and remains confident he will one day be back in the starting lineup -- in Cleveland or elsewhere. "Obviously I want to play and I think I'm good enough to play in this league," he said. "But I'm here right now to do the best I can for this team. ... Unfortunately, I have to hold a clipboard again this year. I really feel like in order for me to continue to get better is to continue to play and get on the field. I'm going to keep working, keep on practicing hard and hopefully the opportunity will come." Without enough snaps, Quinn stands to take a financial hit as jarring as any from a linebacker. If he does not play in 70 percent of Cleveland's offensive snaps this season, Quinn will not hit incentives that would earn him $11 million. Quinn insists he isn't worried about something he can't control. "That's money I never had," said Quinn, due to make $2.1 million next season. "How can you lose money you don't have? Those sorts of things, it's not about that for me. I want to try to better and see what I can do in this league. And it just would be nice to be back out on the field and continue to try and get better that way." Quinn spent his rookie year waiting his turn and did not make his pro debut until the season finale. He didn't make his first start until Week 9 last season and played in just three games before being sidelined with a thumb injury. This was supposed to be his breakout season, but it lasted less than three games. Barring an injury to Anderson, Quinn will spend another year running the scout team in practice and cheering for his teammates on game day. Quinn figured he'd be further along. It's been a long, twisting road. "It's been a little bit unique," he said, smiling. "But then again there's been a lot of turnover as far as the coaches, the front office and with the people who drafted me. So at this point in time all you can do is to continue to work hard and try to get better." If Quinn was going to get a second chance this season, last week in Buffalo would have seemed to be the ideal time. Anderson completed just 2 of 17 passes for 23 yards in a 6-3 win over the Bills. He was plagued by dropped passes, but with Cleveland's offense struggling, Mangini didn't turn to Quinn in relief. Quinn said there was never a point where he thought he would replace Anderson. "It wasn't necessarily a thought in my head," he said. "When that time comes, I think coach will give me some sort of indication and there wasn't any." Quinn has had a few weeks to reflect on what went wrong in his first 2 1/2 games, starts against teams with a combined 13-2 record. He's also had a chance to consider his tenure with the Browns, the team he grew up cheering for and the one that has pushed him aside. He hasn't given up hope. "You want to make things work out for the best," he said. "But sometimes that's not necessarily how things work."

At least I can see that clearly BQ is not a viable NFL QB.
This is addressed to you and Dong and everyone else that has their head buried up DA's behind. You want to throw BQ in the scrap heap after 6 starts and rusting on the bench for basicly 2 yrs. but yet you can't see that DA is not the answer after 20+ starts.
If one of you can show me a 1st round quarterback pick that has been declared (in your words, not a viable NFL QB) with less than 10 games played in the NFL I will buy what you say and never comment on this subject again. If you can't find one, then shut the heck up!
Just wait till next season, I have heard that for over 40 years!

I wouldn't mind a BQ for Jason Campbell trade to Washington, possibly even straight up. I like Campbells play and we could get DA back on the bench where he belongs.

Try again, he has played it 24 NFL games and is still a starter. Please try again and remember if you want me to keep my end of the deal that means you accept your end also!

is your writing so poor that what you thought in your head is not what you wrote on this forum? or are you now adding qualifiers as to who or how someone was declared a terrible starter?
can't change the rules when you started playin the game. tsk tsk.

That's what you said my friend. It's right there.
And yes, russell AND smith were declared inept within 10 games. The fact that the teams they played for kept playing them is moot. Look at russell for example....with the coin the raiders are paying him, and others, they can't afford for him to not work out - even though he's not working out.
Stand by your word? Or try the back door around this....you said name 1 qb that was a failure within 10 games. 2 have been named, yet you're posting. A man of your word? It would appear not.
Now, lets' hear your next excuse.

Ryan Leaf. He was a bust. Played a total of 21 games with 2 teams, but he was a bust way before game 10.
Art Schlichter - 1982 first round pick, #4 over all.....13 games played, and he was a bust way before game 10.
Jerry Tagge - first round, 11th overall. 1972.
Jim Druckenmiller - first round, #26 overall - 1997. started 1 game - gone after 2 years - with no more starts.
Andre Ware - 1990 - first round, 7th overall.....6 starts in 4 years.
Wowser - you gonna back up your statement, or throw in more qualifiers? You said name me one first round qb that was scrapped after 10 games. I just named 5 more, on top of the 2 named prior. Man up, or shut up, right?

I guess if you can't understand I will put it in your language. If you can find a 1ST ROUND QB THAT IS CONCIDERED NOT A VIABLE NFL QB AFTER LESS THAN 10 GAMES PLAYED, then you win if not then shut your pie hole!
I don't think it can be any clearer than that!

Might want to re read the last few posts. Then get your piehole filled.
I just named 5. you asked for one. Want just 1? Go for Druckenmiller. I'll see you on other threads. Course, you can apologize on this one for being wrong, but then you're done here, right? Man of your word or not?

Akili Smith was benched eight games into his rookie season, with four starts. He posted one passer rating above 70 in the seven games he played in that span (against the Browns, of all teams, which was also his only win in those seven games), threw 2 TDs to 6 picks, and then got sat down for the rest of the year. That he started some games the next season is not an indication that he could be a viable NFL QB but rather a testament to the fact that Cincy couldn't NOT play their $56 million, 3rd overal draft pick QB.
He did start 11 more games, yes, and in those games he threw for 3 TDs and 6 picks, with a fat passer rating of 52.8 before he got benched again.
What's Alex Smith up to these days?

dude you just don't get it do ya? The first two you admit in your post have more than 10 games. Next is Jerry Tagge and here is his line: Tagge's performance earned the notice of Dan Devine, head coach of the Green Bay Packers. On his recommendation, the Packers drafted Tagge in the first round; however, Tagge would not enjoy the success in his hometown that he had at Nebraska, completing only three touchdown passes in 17 games played during three seasons from 1972-74. Next is Jim Druckenmiller and yes you win 6 game played in his NFL career. I will hold to my word but look how far back you had to go. You win I lose you will never hear a word from me again about Quinn or Anderson, I am a man of my word!

I get it, it's you that doesn't. You can't just say " I was wrong", you had to, yet again, expound.
But, it wasn't a " win" for me and a loss for you.
It was "hey, you spoke from the heart, but when proved wrong, you kept speaking" kind of thing.
No harm no foul on my end. Don't hate me.

Quinn got shafted. AND STILL IS. Give the kid a chance to develop... We're not setting any records this season and DA IS NOT THE ANSWER.

Quinn is done in the league!!! You wanna stop Quinn---make him have to throw deep or outside the hash marks. Its no secret---take away the short stuff and he is DONE!!!! Look at his "debut" this year!!! Look how Mangini benched him FAST!!! Its cuz he is a one trick pony. He will probably go the way of Charle Frye after the year is done---fighting to cling to an NFL roster somewhere within the lower-tier of the NFL. That people can't see this is absolutely confounding.

I don't know why its so hard to understand...Mangini himself watched him everyday in camp...and through 4 preseason games....he did not see it.

i don't think quinn is done but you're right, mangini saw something but we're not going to know what it is anytime soon. what we do know is all the various accounts saw an inaccurate qb in quinn who was quick to check down.

I guess I am just curious why start Quinn to begin with....What was his preseason like? I thought I read on here that it was obvious Quinn should start.....Honestly...I don't know how Quinn did...I know I thought he looked good when I watched.

his preseason was honestly an improvement. i can't explain how he is doing so poorly; only speculate. i suspect it's the combination of playing against bland, soft, preseason coverages while forcing himself to look for the intermediate completions to prove his detractors wrong. then, when the season started and the additional pressure was on, he fell back to his crutch. then, when he was coached that he missed a lot of throws further downfield, he became indecisive and held on to the ball, resulting in lots of sacks.
quinn was started because he had to be. the public expectation was too much and, despite what people say about how hard-ass mangini is, he's not stupid enough to start DA when their preseasons are arguably close where no one distanced himself from the other. truth be told, though, quinn showed improvement in the preseason but it showed to be false. once mangini saw it and saw how that affected the rest of the team, that was when he made the move he saw fit (and, *possibly*, wanted to do all along).

Sources: Redskins Not Interested in Quinn With the trade deadline Tuesday, there has been a little buzz out there about the Redskins possibly being in the mix for Cleveland Browns quarterback Brady Quinn. Well, that's not going to happen, two league sources wrote in texts. The team is not interested in the former Notre Dame standout who has struggled with the Browns. By Jason Reid | October 14, 2009; 4:50 PM ET http://voices.washingtonpost.com/redskin...redskinsinsiderthis was all over DC sports talk radio yesterday. The other rumor is that Snyder wants Gruden for coach next year and that he, Gruden, wants BQ as his QB. Sometimes rumors have legs. Who knows.?????

If one of you can show me a 1st round quarterback pick that has been declared (in your words, not a viable NFL QB) with less than 10 games played in the NFL I will buy what you say and never comment on this subject again. If you can't find one, then shut the heck up!
It's not ME saying it,, but back in the day, Elway was thought to be a bust early in his career..
Now this is what I say, If I thought that BQ could turn into a QB similar to Elway, then I'd be very happy with him starting this year... Just take our lumps and get better as a group.
I'm unsure he can do that. I've not seen any evidence of it. (I'm certainly not the end all be all last call on that by the way)
But you can't dislike the kid. He's a stand up guy...I hope the best for him.. and if it's with the Browns,, I'm perfectly ok with it..

It doesn't appear we're going to move Quinn before Tuesday because his early outing this year hurt his trade value. We need to make sure he doesn't take 70% of the snaps or whatever that magic number is because he's not worth the money we'd have to pay him.
I think most of us can agree we don't really feel at this time that either one is a long term answer for the position. We can also agree we aren't going anywhere this year. So we let DA play until such time as we insure that Quinn can't hit his escalators. Then put Quinn back in for the rest of the year, give him an opportunity to develop more and hopefully raise his trade value. After the season, turn one of them into the highest pick we can get and move on.

Well Tulsa, if they are playing with the kid in order to get out of escalators,, that's really sad. All they'll accomplish is a further set back in his development not to mention hard feelings with the kid. So I hope that's NOT thier thinking. I have to acknowledge that it just might be..
If mangini and company feel he is potentially thier starting QB of the future, then dang it,, put him in and let him learn...

I don't think we started the year with that philosophy but if we acknowledge we are playing for next year and the year after, then this year is purely about making smart business decisions. The smart business decision is to turn your investments into the highest value you can get, then sell, provided you're not sold on the idea of keeping them.
Players are just as much about the business as well. As soon as they reach free agency it's show me the money, where they play, generally speaking, takes a back seat to how much they want to earn. I think this is a fair way for the management to approach this situation.

Well, whoever was saying it is wrong. Elway was 4-6 his rookie year, 12-2 in 14 starts his second year in the league.

It all depends on how likely they see that possibility.
If they see Quinn as being about 10% likely to improve to NFL average play, is that worth an $11 million gamble? How about 20%?
Face it, Quinn has shown little to nothing in his NFL career to date. It is possible that Mangini wanted to see him on the field under the gun because he really wasn't sure how he'd react. When he saw his play on the field ..... he yanked him in short order.
Does an NFL Head Coach do that because of contract escalators? Probably not ..... but in a lost year that might become more of a consideration.
Further, we have a very young WR corps. How does a QB who will not throw the ball downfield affect their development? What about some of the young RBs? Does a crowded line of scrimmage afftect their development?
It's not just developing a QB ..... but developing a team. If Mangini felt that Quinn was negatively impacting these other positions, then he had no choice but to pull him. Maybe Quinn will improve ..... but historically the mistake young QBs make is in being too aggressive ..... and not a mistake of being too timid on the field. It seems to me that QBs become more conservative as they mature ..... not more likely to attack down the field. What if this is true of Quinn? How much more conservative can he become?

Quinn is done in the league!!!
The only ones done are U/dong/Archbold/Knight of Brown..the insignificant banter the potholes in here spew out is incredible, and fact is none of you are credible because you hype a QB who is clearly not a quality starter..U blew the guy up like he is a Manning/Farve and truth is he's backup...Quinn if traded will play elsewhere but I can almost say for certainly if he isn't dealt he will play again this season..as it is his agent and/or the Browns have gotten calls regarding him..who exactly I know of one team but ain't saying yet..

None of those guy have hyped Quinn.
Fact is that we only have 1 QB who has had some exceptionally good starts in his career .... and that's DA. He also has some downside ...... but his upside, thus far, has been much higher than Quinn's has been shown to be.
Is he the answer? Dunno. However, it certainly appears that Quinn is not even close to being the answer.

Anyone hyping Quinn right now?
So U have no point...as usual..but anyone continuing to hype a inconsistant QB who clearly is a backup is stubborn. U guys continue to ask is DA the answer? Like You really have a hard time seeing the results... NO HE'S NOT...there are some afraid to say it..I've said for two years..no he's not..
U guys crack me up..U try and say DA is a quality starter yet see his awful performances and then try to compare his skills to other QB's who actually have made a long career of winning and honing their skills..
It's like denial..no it is denial..but what will kill all that is when the Browns actually get a quality starter and the rest of the garbage QB's are either traded or relegated to backups..
