Actually I think just talking about a protest, is enough to hopefully open Randys eyes, even though they should have been already.

To be honest, I hadn't thought of it that way, but yeah, that's about the size of it.. 10 years of frustration being blamed on this regime after 7 games.,, when you think about it,, that's just crazy..
Not really. I think it was purple that said the clock doesn't reset just because we get a new coach. He's right. Mangini doesn't get another 10 years to build. Results are expected, and right now, he's failing miserably. No one's expecting us to win a bunch of games. All that can really be expected of this season is to give us some home that were are moving in the right direction, to be somewhat competitive. We are not, we get blown out in every game. How is that considered progress?

He's not a stupid man, I don't think he needs a fan insurgence to understand our frustrations.
On the flip side, anyone who dresses up in a French Frye costume for attention ain't too swift. This would be kinda embarrassing, IMO.

For the most part, I am okay with all this. I'd like to upgrade my seats at the end of the year and I think with people being fed up and the fallout from the economy, I should be able to do pretty well.
Actually, that thought has crossed my mind as well. I like my section but wouldn't mind getting in the the $75 a game seats...the first 5 rows.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn. GM Strong

Well if Junior's eyes are wide open then Junior should realize we need to make changes.
I want winners. I want people who want to win. Not people who are better off in the locker room taking a shower than being on the field.

We've had 4 GM's and 5 head coaches in 10 years ... about the only we've had IS change.
So should he be firing the head coach after 6 games if they can't win more than 2? There's a real formula for success ... I'm sure guys like Cowher would be thrilled to work in an environment like that.

I'm starting to have a real problem with you calling a grown man "Junior" like you do. Like you're poking him in the forehead with your finger as you're talking to him. Am I the only one seeing it this way?
Always easy to be Johnny Balls on-line, wonder if you would address the man - no matter what your opinion of him is - that way if you ever met him?

Someone else used to call him Junior.
That guy has been spot on about everything Browns related.

OK Ammo,, you keep saying he needs to make changes...
You are NOW Randy Lerner.
Tell us what you would do! What change(s) would you make? When? and whos the replacements?
Don't just tell me you think he needs his eyes opened.. that's not an answer.. besides, I think he knows already... Tell us EXACTLY what you would have him do...

Fire ManKok at the bye. The '99 Browns could probably hang 30 on us. That's ridiculous. Bring Bernie with me for EVERY coach and GM interview because he has experience in hiring people from the Arena League. Lean hard on him. Don't listen to Jim Brown.
Hopefully Bernie can convince Shanahan or Holmgren to come here. Show them the money.

Fire Kokinis, hire Bill Polian.
Fire Mangini, hire Bill Billicheck.
Trade DA and BQ for Peyton Manning.
Trade J. Lewis for Adrian Peterson.
Trade Mike Furrey, MoMass, and Robo for Reggie Wayne, Larry Fitzgerald, and Andre Johnson.

great....so lean on someone who had admittedly had an extremely tough time adjusting to life after his playing days and has no experience at the NFL level of making these decisions
I love Bernie as a player, but you're basically asking him to be the head of our football operations with that type of authority and I don't think he's cut out for that at all.

LOL,, You did exactly what I thought you would do... Listen man, I'm gonna get you some Tucks for that behind of yours.. that had to burn talking out your butt that way
Basically, you are saying, throw away everything this year.. we aren't gonna win so why even try? do I have that right?
I'm not much different from you on the Kosar thing.. I think Bernie has the smarts to be a big help.. But to crash the team at mid season.. Personally, I think if you asked Bernie, he'd laugh at ya for that comment...
I sure am....
And if you did that, do you really think that any real HC candidate would think of coming here... Hell know.. Nobody would want that.. Money or no Money.. Shanahan, Cowher, Holmgren... you name them, they'd all run.. They don't need this aggravation from an owner that would do something like that. And they are all wealthy so they don't need the money.. If any of them wants to coach again, and I'm sure that Shanahan does, unsure of Cowher or Holmgren, they will be offered much more attactive opportunities than the Browns..
And they certainly wouldn't do it mid season...
You would be the second coming of Dan Snyder.. Geesh Yeah, that would play well in Cleveland...

What is the message here?
I think the message is, "we fans are fed up" which should go without saying.. given Lerners email, I think he knows.. I swear Toad,, I think these two guys are just looking for some publicity... this has no other value except as a way to vent..
you are right, it's stupid...
BINGO, D, BINGO. (we're going to pretend that's a high-5 smiley *L*)
The only message he's trying to send is that the fans are upset.
Yeah...........it's going to take a stunt like this to tell make Lerner realize people are unhappy with a 1-6 team.
Hey, I applaud the guy for his passion and efforts in the past. But this move is dumb. Nothing but dumb. It doesn't send any "message" at all. It just makes them look like a bunch of buffoons.

Where did I say anything about hiring them midseason? All I know is we're worse than the '99 Browns...that's inexcusable. Players aren't buying into the plan and the coaching has been abysmal. And no I'm not like Snyder. I'd hire the right people.

yeah, we are a bad team, you won't get an argument out of me.. but you don't throw the baby out with the bath water,, You are frustrated,, I get that, I'm totally and completely sure that Lerner gets it, same with Mangini and Kokinis..
But remember, it took 9 years to get to this point, if you think it's gonna get fixed in 7 games,, well, let's just say that's crazy talk

we'd all like to think we would hire the right folks.. Art Rooney hired 7 coachs before he found Chuck Noll,,,are you saying you are smarter than him.. that you are going to get it right the first time..
Pat Bowlen hired several head coaches before he got Shanahan.. are you smarter than him..
What makes you think you could hire better than Lerner.. Oh, that's right, you are taking Bernie with you everywhere.. I forgot.. Bernie is Perfect.. he will NEVER make mistakes and hire the wrong people..
Geesh.., you sound like a little kid with no life experience.. I guess I can't blame you.. you don't know what you don't know
and what you don't know... is a lot

It's okay ... if the first people he hires don't work out, he can just hit RESET on the console.
I also like that his solution is to put all his eggs into one basket ... with the guy who ran a restaurant business into the ground and filed for bankruptcy ... but he got one good year out of an ARENA football team that relocated out of a miserable situation ... that's all the resume Ammo needs!

I forgot to say that I'd also lean on other experienced football men like Accorsi and see if there's a consensus among the football men I consult with.
As much as I hate to draw the comparison: Manny Acta came highly recommended from highly respected baseball men. The reports are that no one wanted to touch Mangini until Lerner came along.
And it has nothing to do with a "reset button" and everything to do with the fact that this team simply is not competitive. We were competitive last year until we were down to our 3rd string QB.
Yes, it took 9 years to get to this point...but this is NOT an expansion team. YES I know the cupboard is bare...but the cupboard was even more bare in '99 and that team showed more heart than this team does.
Add in comments from players and those close to players and you have a disaster in Berea.'
Josh McDaniels is winning with KYLE ORTON at QB and ANDRA DAVIS at ILB. They were the last ranked D in the league last year and now they're the top ranked D. He beat the Pats with KYLE ORTON.
How does that work?

It looks like some fans are getting uptight!
I like the idea of people not taking their seats until after the kickoff for the Monday night game Nov. 16, 2009. Leaving the seats empty just for the kick off on national TV does send a powerful message. Taking your seats shortly thereafter also sends the message that the fans will still support the team.
Are any of you going to support this protest?
I tried to post an article from the Acron Beacon Journal, but apparently this site won't allow that.
It's idiotic.
If you want to make a stand about something, then grow a pair and actually make a stand. Forget about "empty seat at kickoff" and how about trying "Empty Seats" and "Empty Stadium". Do Not Attend, Do Not Tune In.

The funniest thing in all of this is while everyone's out of their seats waiting for the kickoff they'll spend $30 on concessions. That'll show Lerner. If you couldn't tell, this is idiotic. I agree with Daman, this will do nothing but make us look like a bunch of idiots.

OK,, maybe that 's a bad example.. How many head coaches did New Orleans have before they got to this point.. Course, they haven't won a superbowl yet, but they are actually looking good to get close this year...

That right there is the problem.. Some people think it's as simple as it is in Madden.. Geesh.. If it weren't so sad, it would be funny...
As far as bernie goes, look, I know his resume isn't what I'd call exciting and heavy in proven skills.. but I do like what he does bring to the table..
if I owned the Browns, I'd want him in my circle of trusted and football smart associates. Someone that I can go to for advice on things..
right now, it appears that Lerner has him in looking at the onfield stuff.. that's where Bernie would be most useful at this moment.
But to expect him to be able to just use him to make your decisions for you,, that would be nuts... just STOOOPID.

I'll say that Bernie comes across to me as the type of guy who knows things naturally, but it might be tough for him to explain it to people. I don't really have any proof of that, and I could be wrong, but I just get that feeling.
As soon as he sees the defense line up, he knows exactly what's going to happen. But trying to explain to someone HOW you recognize that outside of "it just is" could be tough.
Plus, I'd hate Bernie to be the decision maker on the team because I like him too much. As soon as he makes one draft pick that doesn't pan out (which happens to everyone), Browns fans would turn against him so quickly.
I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

You could pick a lot of teams that struggled through quite a few coaches before they found the right one.. but I'm not trying to be "better than the worst"... I'm trying to get it right... and getting it right (and I've said this quite a few times) is more than just landing the right coach.... Payton may be the right coach, he also came in the same time as Brees, then Bush, then Colston... neither of their coordinators are anybody that you would think were highly sought after but seem to work... it's hard to put a finger on just how these things come together but sometimes they do... but it's not about just finding one guy...

Browns coordinator upset by planned protest 40 minutes ago BEREA, Ohio (AP)—Eric Mangini has a Darth Vader mask hanging in his office. Appropriate perhaps, considering how Browns fans feel about their team these days. Fan displeasure is running rampant in Cleveland, where a 1-6 start has the Browns headed toward their eighth losing season in 11 years since returning to the NFL. Two longtime season-ticket holders are planning a protest before Cleveland’s Monday night game on Nov. 16, urging fans to stay away from their seats for the opening kickoff to send a message after so many years of losing. At least one Browns coach is firing back. “That (ticks) me off. This is Cleveland. They’re going to show up and back this damn team,” outspoken defensive coordinator Rob Ryan said. “This is a town that’s tough and that loves football. Nobody’s happy. I hate me, too. So they hate me. Great. Doesn’t mean you turn your back. ADVERTISEMENT “I’ve got a kid who flunked a class one time and it (ticked) me off. I don’t turn my back on him. I go get a tutor and help him.” The Browns could use a little tutoring on both sides of the ball, since they rank near the bottom of the NFL in most categories. The offense is averaging the second-fewest number of yards per game and the defense is allowing the most yards in the league. The offense has scored four touchdowns in seven games—none by a running back or receiver. The defense was burned on a 71-yard touchdown pass by Green Bay last week after quarterback Aaron Rodgers(notes) read the coverage and audibled to Donald Driver(notes). After the game, Rodgers said he knew what blitz was coming based on film study, and that the Packers’ scout team ran it better during the week than Browns safety Abe Elam did in the game. “I respect the guys that talk before the game,” said Ryan, who earlier this season harshly criticized Buffalo quarterback Trent Edwards(notes). “The guys who tell you how much they’re going to kick your butts, and then they do it or you can shut them up. He can say whatever he wants. I don’t care about him. I’ve got no time for a guy like that.” Browns fans, meanwhile, say it’s the team that is testing their patience. Mike Randall and Tony Schafer, fixtures in Cleveland’s famous Dawg Pound, are hoping the sight of so many empty orange seats on national TV against the Baltimore Ravens will send a strong message to team owner Randy Lerner, who hand-picked Mangini as his new coach earlier this year. Mangini has traded away most of the stars from an offense that was among the league’s best two years ago. It has left first-year offensive coordinator Brian Daboll searching for playmakers on a unit that has failed to score a touchdown in four of seven games. “I don’t blame (fans) for wanting a timetable. Losing is not fun for anyone,” Daboll said. “I really believe good things are going to come … I’m convinced the people we have in this building will turn this thing around.” When that will happen, no one seems to know. “Nothing is ever given to Cleveland. Hell, their team was taken away one time,” Ryan said. “You think you’re not going to fight for that team? Yeah you are. “A little adversity happens, you don’t turn your back. You rub your hands together and fight harder. So it doesn’t look like we’ve got Jim Brown back there right now. Well it’s not easy. We’ll fight and get better. Our fans are great fans. They deserve better and we’re going to give them better.” NOTES: K Phil Dawson(notes) is optimistic he can play Sunday against the Bears. Dawson was upgraded from questionable to probable on Friday after missing the last five games with a strained calf. … Ryan is familiar with Bears QB Jay Cutler(notes) from the time the two spent in the AFC West. Ryan was the defensive coordinator for the Raiders while Cutler was in Denver. “He could throw a strawberry through a battleship,” Ryan said. “He’s got a huge arm.” web page
