But the fact that there are Browns fans out there organizing this exact kind of thing that makes me a more proud fan.
Gees.. Look at it for what it is.. A publicity stunt.. one of these guys that started this is one of the former Charlies Fryes guys.. Go do a Google search on the name Mike Randall.. You will see him listed in a number of articles going back a way.
The man is a publicity hound..
Orgainzing.. HA.. this isn't orgainzed, it's a couple of guys spouting off in the press as much as they can to get some pub.. nothing more, nothing less..
On top of that, they are asking browns fans to do something that nobody will even notice. Hell, go to a game, look at the seats before kickoff,,, half are empty anyway.. What the heck is the difference..
Then, if that weren't enough, they may not have been completely truthful..
They were quoted as saying they had meetings with Randy Lerner and in those meetings, Randy proved to them that he was a fan, that he was doing everything he could think of to make this a better team.
Take that at face value,, If Randy proved to them he's doing everything he can to build a winner here.. so, who are they protesting too.. Who are they trying to influence.. Gees,.
But when pressed on an interview with Bruce Drennan on his show "all bets are off" on STO.. Randall admited that he was at a Ravens game in Baltimore and Randy saw him dressed in his Browns Gear and went over and spoke to him for a moment.. A MOMENT.. That's IT..
it's a freaking dumb idea,,
You want a better one,,, here ya go.. Stop buying Browns Gear, Stop going to games, Quit Caring who the QB is, don't patronize resturants or bars that feature Browns game on Sunday.
you wanna get a message across,, that's how you do it. When it hits the pocket book, they don't have a choice but to listen..
Then there is the obvious question,, if you read Randy Lerners email in response to this whole issue, then you already know that he cares,, that he's trying to do something, that he's working on it.. that he wants it to work.
On top of that, you have his actions.. The browns just released Erin O'brien as a team official. This was a person that Mangini brought in from the Jets. maybe he's starting to dismantle Manginis staff.. dunno, but it's interesting.
He brought in Kosar.. to do what is still a little unclear but I think most would guess its to kinda be a second pair of eyes in evaluating the on field stuff.. another sign of unrest in the owner..
So, if all of that is accurate, and I think it is, Who exactly is this protest designed to influence? The guy who already knows and is working on it? Or is this designed to build some kinda publicity for these two guys?
You say you are proud of fans that want to organize.. OK,, be proud if you want, but those that follow through on this stupid Idea will be forever idiots in my eyes.. Sheep that follow but can't think for themselves and can't see beyond the tip of thier nose.
I get the anger,, I get the idea that the team isn't doing well, I get that it's been since 2007 that we've had something to cheer about.
But none of that is good reason to embarrass this city or the true fans of this team...

With some of the things I've been reading coming from RL, I think he gets the point already.
Let's see what he does with the info and feel he currently has from the fans.

Oh Old mutt guy,, I agree and that's the point. it's pretty clear that he "gets it" and that anything more is just fans piling on.. and to me, that has zero value..
Michelle,, It's JMO, but I think you are right when you say that it's thier right to protest if they want,, but I question the value.. as stated, this is a dumb idea..

I agree...dumb idea. I wouldn't protest because my guess is Lerner knows exactly how fed up the fans are. He probably is, too. I'm just not sure what he can do about it TODAY. Maybe Bernie will help out eventually by putting bugs in his ear, but for now, we have what we have....good or bad.
I'm just not sure why the fans are upset right now. Where was the outrage last season? Where was it four games ago? I gave up on this season a lot earlier than this week. Why now?

LOL,, I get the anger,, I understand that lots of folks lives revolve around the browns,, I get it. but the "why now" question is a good one.. I'm afraid I don't have a good answer for you..

just clicking..
I'm not going to be so quick in passing judgement on those fans looking to draw attention to their displeasure with this Browns team.
It is a form of "protest" over what fans see as a poor product..poor performance..poor coaching..poor management..poor value for the money they spent..a "poor" whatever adjective you want to use.
No one can deny, that this Browns team is performing "poorly". The fans wanting to leave their seats empty at the start of the game are not wrong to protest the performance of this team.they want they want to protest. Others may not like the method of protest these fans are suggesting, but it's a hard sell to say Browns fans should not protest the performance of this team.
I'm not sure some understand the "historic nature" of just how bad this 2009 Browns team is.
For me, it hurts to say this team is the worst Browns team I have seen since I started following the team in 1963. At first I thought I was just being a little emotional saying this is "the worst" Browns team I have seen in my 43 yrs being a Browns fan...then I did a little research (posted below).
.............OFFENSE.................................DEFENSE.......... 2009...225 yds/g...10.5 pts/g............414 tds/g...25.6 pts/g.......
1999...235 yds/g...13.5 pt/g..............377 yds/g...27.4 pts/g..... 2000...220 " 10.06 " ..............352 " ...26.1 " ..... 2001...259 " 17.8 " ...............331 " ...19.9 " .....
After 7 games, Mangini's team is performing at a level slightly worse than Palmer's 1999 team and Palmer's 2000 team.
I believe Browns fans have a right to be upset. Lerner, Kokinis and Mangini should feel fortunate that Browns fans are not planning to protest by not attending any more games until the team shows progress. Fans staying out of their seats for the first quarter might be the least their concerns.

As if nobody knows that the fans are not pleased.. yeah, makes sense, let's draw attention to something that every football fan already knows..
You didn't need to quote stats.. nobody is disputing that this team is sucking big time..
the idea of staging a protest is to draw attention to something that few are aware of and to cause those in charge to fix the problem. I'd say that MANY already know and that includes the owner.
I'll say it again, what value does this protest have. I'm embarassed by those that think this is good....

Because it would be an embarrassment for the entire organization to have a empty stadium when broadcast starts for Monday Night Football.
It's a dumb idea, because it's not going to happen. But, that's why I assume they picked now.

Yeah well it took hiring Mangini to suck the collective life out of Browns fan.
From DAY ONE he's mad maddeningly frustrating moves.

If I'm going to skip the kickoff - which I will not skip it - I would just as likely not go to the game at all.
My ticket $$$ are gone with the wind...the opening part of the game, especially for a Monday night game, is the best part of the entire game.
I like the "protest" idea...but I'll be in my seat for the kickoff.

The fans aren't quiting, if the fans were quiting they wouldn't even be going to the game.
This isn't about quiting it's about DP Mike getting hits for his website and a poor attempt of national recognition and becoming one of those gay super fans like fireman Joe.

Unlike the players quitting, the fans have had to put up with this garbage for ten freaking years. *and make no mistake, garbage is probably a very nice way of putting it*
At what point do we get tired of it and just not care anymore? I know one thing, these past two years have been the worst years of being a fan I've ever had and has taken a lot of the joy away.
Then again, I'm only 21 and the best moment of my Browns fan life is when they made the playoffs...

Being a Browns fan isn't for everyone.
If you want to quit, then quit.
Enjoy your Sundays. Play with your kids. Golf. Rake leaves. Watch a movie.
None of us would look down on anyone that chooses that route. However, if you're going to stick around and claim to be a fan - then act like a fan.

I never said I am going to stop being a Browns fan, but you cannot blame the fans for giving up on this organization.
After ten years of constantly getting treated like crap, a lot of people would look into divorce if it were a marriage, I have no problems with people giving up on the Browns.

People that give up are no longer Browns fans...and they best not come running back should this team ever do well. That would make them exactly like Bengal fans.

I think we have to stop passing judgment on people and whether or not they are a fan. Most people say stuff in anger or frustration ... and they may even take a break and step away ... that's because people deal with disappointment differently.
Take, for example, you Michelle. I notice you're not around these parts much anymore. You or Jules. My guess is if we were 6-2, we'd see you around more. But nobody is questioning your fandom. I figure you're probably just frustrated.
If someone starts rooting for another team and starts buying merchandise of said team, then comes back to the Browns when they're good again ... screw 'em. But if someone says they are not going to be a fan anymore ... maybe they're just pissed off. And if they come back around and start getting more into it when we start getting good again, then so be it. As long as they haven't actually crossed over to another side ... who cares.
LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

What does giving up mean?
Am I allowed to be realistic, saddened, angered, depressed, sarcastic, moody, glum, negative or distraught?

You are allowed to be whatever you wish. I am all of those things you listed and more. I just won't "give up" on my team. Is it terribly painful and maddening to watch week after week? Sure. Is it fun? Not at all. To me giving up means just what it sounds like...quitting. To you, and others, it may mean something else.
I sold my PSLs this season. That could be considered "giving up" by some. I didn't sell them because we were crappy last season. I sold them because in the three or four seasons I owned them I think I went to two games. That's just a stupid investment, really.
So, yes, everyone is allowed to feel how they feel. I just don't care for bandwagon fans. I've seen more than enough of that living in Cincinnati territory. All their fans sure do look purty in their brand new jerseys and hats, though.
