Even though DC and I don't see eye to eye on everything,he's better than any of the talking heads I see possibly running on either side of the aisle. And doesn't use a lot of double speak.

So I'd vote for him!

Pit I do know what you are saying about troops or the general populace being
for or against the war. A very complicated and emotional one...as it should be.
I don't know anyone other than cartoon characters or made up movie characters who are for war. Who really enjoys war??????
I guess we could cynically claim that the Haliburton stockholders enjoy war.
We could claim that certain politicians with a God complex like war but I hardly think that anyone is pro war.

Some people feel that we need to stay awhile longer and correct some of our blunders over the past few years. Some may feel that it is in our long term best interest to continue the fight against militant Islam but no one likes war.

"I've never SEEN a poll, much less posted one that implies that "all the troops are against the war". All the polls I've ever seen show they have differing views."

Not really PPE.

DC and I both agreed this was entered into very porly strategicly. We both agreed on the troop strength needed to accomplish this mission. I'm not "anti-war" so much as I'm "anti-stupidity".

I feel this administration tried to "fight this war on the cheap". Sending in a far smaller troop strength than needed to secure Iraq. This has put our troops in far graver danger than was needed. Even with this "patchwork" addition of 21,000,it's just more of the same.

Even if our troops were re-deployed to the perimeter of Iraq,I could support that. We could use our troops to stop any flow of arms and foreign fighters and or terrorists from coming into Iraq and let the Iraqi's fight out their own civil war. That way, whoever does come out the winner, would be using the majority of their might and weaponry fighting each other, not us in the middle.

Then, when all was said and done,we move back in and deal with what remains. Yes,I could support that. BUT,IMO,supporting a flawed strategy that has proven over time to be an utter failure that is endangering our troops unnecassarily,is not my idea of "supporting our troops".

I simply have a problem with "the Bush administration strategy" on this war. If he could only revise his strategy to one that has a better chance of success that makes our troops odds of success and progress more likely,I could support it.

I don't think Iraq was "an immediate threat" and we "rushed in without proper planning or contingency plans." And unless there's a drastic change in strategy, supporting a failed strategy just makes no sense to me. If you set our troops up like fish in a barrel,I'm not going to support that. Use some wisdom in your strategy and set them up for success? I most certainly will support that.

See DC said the obvious for anyone willing to be realistic. We needed a main base in the midst of the terrorists. Iraq was the weakest link in the chain,so they became the target. Everything else was pretty much BS. That's honest and real. I can support that.

You see, everyone has me pegged as "anti-war liberal". And I don't really care what they think. Can ya tell? But that's not accurate irregardless.

I support the war in Afghanastan. It was a "necassary war". Because that is/was the center for Al Queda. And with the honesty DC spoke, and his ,what I consider to be sound strategy on troop strength going into this thing,I could have supported that as well.

I've expained repeatidly why I pushed hard for the Dems in Congress. Because I don't like a monopoly in Washington. No checks and balances. It has nothing to do with any party affiliation. And I';m sure you'll see me pushing a GOP for president for that very same reason.

So with openess and honesty, and a reasonable war strategy,I could support someone with DC's views very easily. I don't consider that a conflict at all.

one down, 50,000,000 to go...

I'm pretty sure that if I ever really unloaded the full arsenal of my political opinions, some jaws would drop. Especially on social issues where many on this board often mistake my own personal feelings on issues for the way in which I think they should be legislated...

The last time somebody posted one of those polls which puts you on a matrix of where you stand politically, I was right on the border on social issues between republican and libertarian. I have very strong feelings about the way I think people should live, and somewhat different opinions on the roll government should play in that.

The comment about the distinction between my personal beliefs and my feelings about legislating them... was directed pretty much at you...

I take it that means he can't reduce the list to 49,999,999?

You know? That might make a pretty good catch phrase to insert in some of your speeches on the campaign tour?

DC? You have very strong opinions on how people should live? Why? What do you care? How does it impact you? If gays get married what does that do to your heating bill?Or the price of Groceries?Or Gas? If abortion stays legal how does that impact the price you pay for booze,or Dockers,or sushi? I care little about how people live untill it effects me directly..i.e. a crackhouse in my neighbor hood..but Gays,or abortionists, or Scientologists living next door wouldn't faze me in the least.

How do you feel about slacked-jawed hillybillys who like to sit out front picking their nose and scratching ? I'm thinking of moving.
