Associated Press

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan released embarassing details of an internal audit Monday that said the beleaguered football program had failed to file monthly forms tracking how much players practice -- an issue currently under NCAA investigation.

The audit was completed months ago but the details surfaced this week, even as coach Rich Rodriguez is trying to save a season that includes six losses in the past seven games.

The audit looked at last season -- Rodriguez's first at Michigan -- and at last spring's offseason. It said the football program failed to file monthly Countable Athletically Related Activities forms created by the school to track how much players work out and practice as a tool to comply with NCAA rules.
"The regular season forms still have not been submitted," the office of university audits wrote to Rodriguez in a letter dated July 24. "All other varsity sports submitted their CARA forms timely."

Offseason forms were submitted after the audit was completed last May, meaning they had not been reviewed, according to the report.

The school said in August it was looking into the issue after the Detroit Free Press cited anonymous football players saying they were exceeding NCAA limits when it came to practice time.

Last month, the NCAA also began looking into practices of college football's winningest program and sent the school's president a notice of inquiry. The NCAA intends to complete its investigation by Dec. 31.

Rodriguez has said he and his coaches know and follow NCAA rules. A university spokeswoman Kelly Cunningham said Rodriguez would not make a statement about the audit, saying he and school officials are limited in what they can say because of the ongoing investigation.

Michigan's season has been filled with challenges on and off the field. The Wolverines started 4-0, then lost six of their next seven games.

If Michigan doesn't upset Ohio State (No. 10 BCS, No. 9 AP) on Saturday at home, it will fail to quality for a bowl for a second straight season under Rodriguez after enjoying a postseason streak that lasted three-plus decades.

I gotta tell ya'll, I'm worried about this one.

Michgan gains a bowl game.

The Buckeyes have won 5 in a row.

Ohio State is already in the Rose.

As far as national stepping stone, this game has virtually no "importance."

Streaks do not go on forever.

As I do every year, I will bet a reasonable sum on Michigan, straight up. It's worth it to guarantee a superstitious win.

When was the last time we beat the Steelers? Sure feels like forever.

I'm taking Michigan in this game too. Michigan has more to win/lose and will come out swinging. OSU is only playing for bragging rights.

24-17 Mich

Tressel just takes this too seriously for me to really worry just yet. The only year he was beat my Michigan it was because the 2003 Michigan team just had more talent than we did that year on offense.

Talent certainly played a part, but the Buckeyes made way too many turnover mistakes that allowed Michigan to build a lead, and Ohio State almost recovered anyway, then, turned the ball over, again.

I'll be in attendance Saturday. Still haven't decided if that's a good or bad thing.

Michigan REALLY needs this game but I don't know......they REALLY needed one of the last 3, against opponents inferior to OSU and couldn't get it done.

The only thing that will keep them in this game is if they can stack the box, press the edges and make Pryor win the game with his arm. It was the game plan Purdue went with and it worked to perfection.

Can Michigan do the same thing? Who knows? But it's really the only game plan that is going to give them a chance in my opinion. They have to pressure Pryor in to making some bad decisions.

I don't really have a prediction but think UM is a big long shot in this game but there are two ways they stay in it......a Notre Dame like performance from Forcier or Pryor faltering under pressure (like he has throughout the year). If neither happens, I think OSU probably runs away with it. Michigan's defense folds at the first sign of adversity. It's easily the worst defense I have seen in my lifetime.....

ohio state's defense is going to be way too much for that offense. tate forcier better get really familiar with the name thaddeus gibson.

pryor has one of those games that he has had the last few weeks, no big mistakes, smart throws, a few runs for a first down.

and i think herron and saine are the story. people are gonna love that 2 headed monster for next yr...

i will say, it's been a good college season, ohio state could have easily been in the championship talk had they not let matt barkley go down the field, but i really believe they are a much better team right now than they were that night. i think if u put usc and ohio state on the field again, ohio state would probably win by a few touchdowns. both programs are going in different directions right now.

the upcoming bowl season and offseason will be pryor's most crucial time. you have got to make that jump. he really needs to work in the offseason to become a better quarterback. he's 2 years in the league and i think it's really put up or shut up when you enter your junior yr... u see it with a lot of qb's, mccoy's jump from soph to junior year was huge. can say the same for tebow even though he won the heisman his sophmore year, he may not have won it again the next year but he was a much better quarterback.

At this point I think Pryor is what he is. Can he improve? Sure but I just don't see him as a player that is suddenly going to light teams up through the air.

He has three major flaws in his game. He's an erratic passer, he doesn't see the entire field and he's a poor decision maker. Ultimately, I think those things will hold him back his entire career.

He's started what, 20 games now? He should slowly be getting better but his numbers are down across the board. INT's have more than doubled from last year (in only 75 more attempts), YPA down nearly a whole yard and his completion percentage is down almost 5% (to 56).

Typically a QB's biggest jump, especially with someone who played as a true freshman, is from his first to second year. In Pryor's case, he's actually regressing. He's still a supremely talented athlete but his arm doesn't keep defenses honest. Until he proves he can beat teams through the air, he's really going to plateau as a player. Throw in an offense that doesn't really play to his strengths on a consistent basis and it's not a recipe for major success.

Tressell can get away with it because OSU has a defense to lean on and an incredibly weak conference to play in but OSU will struggle to beat elite teams with someone like Pryor. Good defenses can make an already average QB one dimensional, putting way too much pressure on the rest of the team to be perfect.

and yet the VY parallels continue...

VINCE YOUNG STATS Passing
Year Att Comp Pct Yds TD Int
2005 325 212 65.2 3,036 26 10
2004 250 148 59.2 1849 12 11
2003 143 84 58.7 1,155 6 7

Terrelle Pryor STATS Passing
Year Att Comp Pct Yds TD Int
2009 241 135 1761 56.0 15 9
2008 165 100 1311 60.6 12 4

Pryor still seems ahead of VY at this point in his career....they also had similar meltdown games in their sophomore years which they quickly rebounded from (VY v. Mizzou.....Pryor v. Purdue).

Not saying it's likely that Pryor makes the VY-jump in his junior year....but it still is very much possible as it isn't as big of a jump as VY had to make.

Yes you may and so will I...

BEAT MICHIGAN (yeah, I yelled it)

Plenty of reasons for the kids in Scarlett and Gray to win this one. 2 classes have now swept the Wolverines in their "normal" tenure. The underclassmen do understand their role in preserving this streak (or will by weeks end). Likewise, the Seniors have both themselves and the underclassmen to take care of.

Buckeyes 24 - 3

As you were.

Something deceptive about that is rushing yards. Who learned to use their legs more frequently earlier in their career?

I understand VY is the gold standard for mobile QB's but Pryor isn't really even half the runner VY was.

You could surely argue their passing stats are similar in years 1 and 2 but Young was a dominant runner throughout his entire career. Pryor is not even close to VY as a complete package. As a passer, I suppose (at this point in their careers) but he's not even in the same area code as a runner.

In 2003, Young rushed for 998 yards and 11 TD's. In 2004 he had 1079 and 14 TDs and in 2005 he had 1050 yards and 12 TD's.

I know he's the easiest comparison but Young was a lot further along, as a complete player, at this point in his career. Pryor has the physical skills, it just seems like he doesn't have it between the ears.

I disagree...Young seemed lost until late in his sophomore year....he always was looking to run and was horrible at making reads. The main argument against him too as he had nothing between the ears.

the difference is that Pryor is fighting his ability to run...he wants to be a passer-first...while VY embraced it and worried about passing later. other than that, they are very, very similar players at this point in their careers.

again, it's not to say Pryor will have VY's junior year....just that they have had similar progressions to this point.

A man had tickets for the Ohio State - Michigan game. As he sits down, a man comes down and asks if anyone is sitting in the seat next to him. "No", he says, "The seat is empty."

"This is incredible," said the man. "Who in their right mind would have a seat like this for the Ohio - Michigan game, the biggest sporting event in the world, and not use it?" He said, "Well, actually, the seat belongs to me. I was supposed to come with my wife, but she passed away. This is the first Ohio State - Michigan game we haven't been to together since we got married in 1957". "Oh ... I'm sorry to hear that.. That's terrible. But couldn't you find someone else - a friend or relative, or even a neighbor to take the seat?".

The man shakes his head. "No. They're all at her funeral."

It's all about the seniors bro. - These guys are gonna play their hearts out. - More footage for NFL scouts + the last game vs. Michigan they'll play in. - This is the biggest rivalry in all of sports, don't worry about Ohio State looking past Michigan.

That's what I thought is was. Probably started as Meeeeechigan and turned into MeatChicken.

Similar to when the Cavs played Orlando last year and everyone was calling hedo turkoglu, "Turkey Glue".

With Tressel's conservative play calling I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if OSU won by a TD or less.

Why does a thread exist for a game between a mediocre team and a below-average team? Is there some sort of rivalry between these two craptastic teams?

I will say this, if Ohio State loses I will enjoy all of the "Fire Tressel" posts.

I don't really have a favorite college football team. I root more for players.

Recently I have taken a liking to Andrew Luck, Toby Gerhart, Dan LeFevour, Jahvid Best, Jacquizz Rodgers, and Rolando McClain.

I will say I do see a lot more Pac-10 games out here in Southern California so I might be a little biased towards teams from the West Coast because I see them more. I do enjoy seeing USC fail though because it drives everyone around here crazy.
