He was slightly behind the receiver on some short balls, yes. Made some nice throws, too.. passes to Estadia and the TD to Gaines... and as you said was quick with the decisions. BQ was good overall, even though it was the Lions; if nothing else.... it's a step in the right direction, which is all we could realistically ask for right now.

The 1st TD to MoMass was dead on, and if it had been DA alot of people would be posting "this is the reason DA should start".
Quinn struggled with accuracy on his short stuff today big time, and that still concerns me. However, it was by far the best game we've seen from a QB wearing a Browns jersey all year.......by far.......which unfortunately wasn't a high hurdle to jump..lol.
I still have big ???s about Quinn, but this was a step in the right direction.

TD to Mass was thrown behind him. Mass had to slow down. If there's decent coverage that isn't a completion. The TD to Stuckey was perfect as was the drop by Jennings. Both were spectacular throws.

He may have thrown it a bit short to MoMass just because he was so wide open and wanted to make sure he caught it. Good QB's do that all the time.
And that pass to Jennings was a thing of beauty.

Loved the throw to Jennings. Or should we call him Braylon, maybe Quincy?

On the other hand, it could be argued that BQ knew MassQ was wide open, and wanted to err a bit on the side of caution, so let it hang up a little as opposed to be being a yard too long.

That's true and probably what he did. But it still wasn't a perfect throw as many would lead you to believe, and he did drastically underthrow Mass later.

He may not be completely on the same page with MoMasses speed yet. Or, he may just have thrown it a bit short period. As you said, you see it plenty.

The bomb to Massaquoi was a good throw because Quinn put some air under it to ensure the completion. If anyone watched OSU-Michigan yesterday, they saw Pryor leave two scores on the table on bombs to Posey when he didn't just lay them up for Posey to run under for an easy catch. Quinn showed arm strength on the 40 yarder to Stuckey and touch on the TD pass to Massaquoi as well as the drop by Jennings, Yeah, it was Detroit, but I think he made big strides today. I now think he might be able to play in this league.

Lamp nrtu I knew when I came on here to read what was being said that very few of Quinn's detractors would man up enough to say that just maybe they were WRONG! The title of this thread is very degrading to BQ and should be changed to, BQ may someday be an NFL QB. I stated on here Friday that the fact he had started against some of the top defenses in the league and deserves to get a chance against some more average to below average defenses before anyone can say that he is a bust. With a little more talent around this kid he can be a winner. I think that his confidence has been shaken with this team but he may have taken a step toward regaining that after today. Many Nfl QB's have this eye opening moment in they're career and with this game as a stepping stone he could be on the verge of doing just that. Am I saying he will be the next Marino, NO, but what I am saying is we may very well have the QB of the future in our midst and with time and some more talent around him it is possible!
Just wait till next season, I have heard that for over 40 years!

I think your message would carry more weight if he did certain things well that he isn't doing now ... and hasn't done since he's been in the league.
*Any pressure at all, he rushes, completely loses his mechanics, and ends up being wildly inaccurate on his short throws.
*Other than today, he has not been able to complete long passes, and the two TDs were on broken coverages.
*Other than the pass to Estandia - which was a great pass - he still has not shown he can throw in the 15-30 yard range with any accuracy at all. And that was just a great play call with very few players down the field i.e., very little traffic.
*Even though he had a better game today, I still saw some things that I don't think we should see from a starting NFL QB. He missed both MoMass and Furrey on easy slant patterns, one on a potential 3rd down conversion, the other a potential TD.
It was great to see a little life out there, and I was happy we scored some points, and I was happy we moved the ball with BQ, but I just don't see us doing it with much success against the tougher teams in the NFL.

I think it should be expected that a young QB with no line gets flustered.
The question is what do they do when they have time.
I saw it with Brees when he was young. No line means a young mediocre QB.
Fix the line, please.

So are you saying he does this 100% of the time because that is what it sounds like. Also I believe he is not the only QB in this league that has these problems when pressured.

Other than today we have had 5 total offensive touchdowns. We got 4 of them passing today!

Oh boy another other than huh. As I stated in my earlier post I believe his confidence has been shot this season and that today may have helped to put some of that away.

You deleted a prior post. That was my reference.
As to Quinn in all seriousness.
He really had a nice game. Not a great game. More of a very good game.
There were two long TDs that were defensive breakdowns. You discount it. I'll just add a dash of salt and say I agree but I can't count the number of games I've seen in my lifetime where I've seen those balls overthrown and that opportunity wasted.
He also had some nice quick throws and some throws that he had to display his athleticism and complete like the last TD to that fat TE.
On the other hand he had a few back hip slants that I wasn't happy with. Some other throws were wayward.
But it was a very solid performance.
That's what happens when you allow the QB to plant his front foot and fire it. Our problem is not at QB. It's at RT, RG and occasionally LG and C.
Fix that and you have a successful offense. Find a dynamic RB and wow then you present a defense with problems. Then you start dictating what you want to do like the top offenses in the NFL.
If we go QB in the first or second round I'll be upset.
That's about it.

That's a two-sided coin...DA had those luxuries in '07...still couldn't get it done.
A bad-mediocre QB can look good-solid when things are clicking around them...but it takes a bit more.
QB is a problem on this team. But I agree in taking a QB high. I would sign a vet.

The only....and i mean only truthfully problem that I had with him.....
Is that he would miss players when he had no pressure on throws that were within 10 yards, often with too much zip on the ball as well.
It drove me nutso crazy. It just made it caustic to watch him play after a while.

All I'm looking for BQ to do is make the simple, routine throws that all pro QBs should be able to make on a consistent basis. I'll give you he did that on the two long TDs with the busted coverages. He should have made those throws, and he did. Good job on those.
He had several nice throws in the game. His two best were probably the first to MoMass and the drop by Jennings. I just get so darn frustrated when we can't do the simple things like complete a 3rd and 5 on a good play call with a wide open receiver and the QB throws behind the guy. That just frustrates me to no end.
I'll be looking forward to the game next week to see if he can build on it, but I'll tell you this. If the rest of the season is business as usual from the QB position after today, I'm all for drafting a QB. I'm probably standing on an island of 1 right now with that opinion, but I'm all for it.

I have not seen enough of Quinn to make an honest assessment. I have seen enough of the OL to make an assessment that it needs help.
There are a lot of teams that need OL help. Bears, Bills, Packers, and Skins, to name a few, get in line.

Just saw the highlights. Of course they are just highlights, but the deep throws were well done. Even if the guys were wide open, the QB still has to make the throws. Just ask Bears fans who watched Cutler miss three wide-open bombs for TD's tonight. Of course they had to show the short throw he missed that gave the Lions the ball back.
It was a good game. I need to see him do it every week from here on out. By this amount of time in the league, QB's need to be totally ready to play well. Quinn gave himself a chance, now he has to keep it going or this game doesn't really mean much.

What you saw yest. was a QB be effective because he was protected. In fact I know it happened (got knocked down) at least once but no sacks says it ALL.
That said do you still think that you want a QB or would you prefer to build along the O Line?
Going back to the draft I wanted O Linemen in fact I wanted 2 Mack/Loadholt Mack/Robinson, because I knew that in order for ANY QB to be successful he had to be well protected #1, you never get to #2 unless you have #1 in the bag.
At this juncture I'm satisfied that both BQ and DA can be decent QB's if protected resonably well. We need to continue to build our line the job is far far from done.

I still can't believe some people want to draft a QB in the First Round.
How many times have we done that, only to waste the 1st Round Pick??? If your team is not ready to support a Rookie QB, most likely you will waste the pick.
If we pick anything other then a: RB, RT, RG, TE, LB, CB or Safety in the 1st Round, I'll be pissed.

I actually have no worries about Mangini picking a QB in the draft he knows where his problems lie, and he also knows how long it will take each position to develop. Believe it or not time to develop is important when you draft. Thats why he took 2 WR's in the 2nd. 3 years to develop, thats the time frame he is working on.
Will get a Safety I believe in round 1 Berry Mays, then will go O Line or could be RB, then O Line O Line O Line. Will still have some major voids to fill but will be a much better team come year 3. Who knows what roll FA will play as well, we could go after a O linemen in FA, but I think the long term solutions are going to come from the draft.

and development takes time and patience.
I'm all for ignoring FAs and just drafting and scrounging off other team's PS for about two more years.
Imagine if all those young players develop all at the same time....

Everything we've wanted was: A Rebuild Plan with a Vision, then give that person time to see his plan through. Mangini has all of those, but no one wants to give him any time.
Personally, my solution is, the Czar. You know, Mangini the the Czar will sit down together, and talk, his Vision, his Plan, his Offseason Strategy and ect.
If the Czar doesn't buy into it, then let him make the decision to keep Mangini or let him go. But, if we don't have a Czar, we should hold onto Mangini until we do get a Czar, because I do not want Lerner making another personnel decision at all unless it's the Czar.
I still remember BTTB's post, about the progress on Defense, even thought I wasn't able to see the horrendous performance on Defense against the Lions, but I'm still waiting for ESPN to show the replays.

As opposed to throwing into 3 defenders??
Isn't it the QBs job to pick up on those blown coverages and get the ball to the wide open man when it happens? Aren't the majority of "big" plays in the NFL because of blown coverages?
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

I know it's a 60 minute game and there are many, many plays that can determine the outcome of the game, but you could argue that the missed 3rd down to MoMass at the end of the game is what cost us the win.
And you could argue that Mass went way too deep into his route.. we needed 4 or 5 yards for a first down, with a blitz from his side.. Mass ran about a 10 yard out... there was no need for him to push the route that far. If Mass breaks off his route where Quinn threw the ball it's a first down.... I don't believe that was an inaccurate pass as much as it was a "miscommunication"...
Quinn certainly wasn't perfect, he had some inaccurate passes... overall he looked pretty good.
I absolutely do not expect those kinds of numbers against better defenses but I would like to see some of the deep shots and a touchdown or two... hopefully this game was a stepping stone in the right direction.

THis is probably gonna be considered a stupid question, but was some (I say some, not all) of the success we had against Detroin attibutable to having extra blocking TE"s in the game. I seemed to notice more two TE sets...
Just wondering if that contributed to what success we had yesterday...

Yeah....he and his grand total of 8 starts under 2 different regimes after being benched for a bum and with a somewhat less than mediocre OL should be doing much better.........
Yep.

He shoulda been left in all year. Reps, reps, reps. His stat line says 3 years NFL experience but this was his 8th start.

A lot of people are saying that Quinn's game is the direct result of playing inferior competition. That certainly has merit, but I look at it more of playing comparable competition. I'd like to think this is the type of thing we can expect when the team is comparable to the better teams in the league. It really shows me how much this team is overmatched on most Sundays. Upgrade the talent around our QB and put us on an even playing field and good things can happen.
There may be people who have more talent than you, but there's no excuse for anyone to work harder than you do. -Derek Jeter

I think what Quinn showed me is that when given the time he can make all the throws that many on here claimed he couldn't. He still had some plays that I'm sure he would like to take back but I think with better players around him he can have better success than what we have seen in the past.
I don't think what we saw this weekend is what we can expect all the time but I think it's closer than what we saw last week.
I was more impressed with throws like the first one of the game and the one that Jennings dropped than I was with the deep balls on broken coverage but he made those throws also. Unlike a Cutler who missed those same type of plays today. Just because the coverage broke down doesn't mean he didn't have to make a good throw.

How many times have we done that, only to waste the 1st Round Pick??? If your team is not ready to support a Rookie QB, most likely you will waste the pick.
If we pick anything other then a: RB, RT, RG, TE, LB, CB or Safety in the 1st Round, I'll be pissed.
Would you be pissed if they drafted Ndamukong Suh? 6'4" 302 lbs. and unblockable by one guy. Pass rush from the front 3 or 4 if you choose. I say you can't pass on this guy if Berry is not there. I would do backflips if we took this guy to put next to Rogers. Run D also gets much better. NO QB in the First round. Take your RT in the 2nd and watch for Myrone Rolle in the 3rd if you don't take Berry. Rolle is smart and can play ball. Please not Mays as he is Roy Williams all over and I think we will be drafting to high for him.
I am not sold on BQ. Saw good and bad things from him yesterday but have see more. As someone said on here does he build on this? I hope as we need so much and I would be happy if he could hold the job down. BTW, didn't want him in the 1st round that year. Now I am not a DA lover or a BQ lover, I am a get a QB for the browns lover.

The problem is any backup 3rd string QB who has made it into the NFL can do the very same thing under those circumstances. To be a starter you have to do that against the good teams, and under pressure. Give me a pocket and a wide open receiver and Ill step up and throw downfield also. This is no more telling of Quinns abilities than Andersons first game against the Bengals in 07 at this point. What everyone seems to forget is we fell apart offensively in the second half of this game. Quinn essentially had one good quarter.
