The drink, which was launched nationwide in March 2008, was the only Gatorade that contained theanine, which has been shown in studies to reduce mental and physical stress. Gatorade said last week in a statement that its contract with Woods would continue.
Critics might say that Gatorade is just reacting to the recent news, but industry trade Beverage Digest actually reported the discontinuation of the Gatorade Tiger Focus line on Nov. 25, two days before the accident occurred.
Here's a link to the actual Beverage Digest issue, although the content costs money: http://www.beverage-digest.com/editorial/headline.html

I think Powerade is far better-tasting than Gatorade.
I'm a blue powerade guy. That Tigerade stuff tasted like crap.

Report: Doctor being probed for PEDs Comment Email Print Share ESPN.com news services
NEW YORK -- A Canadian doctor who has treated golfer Tiger Woods, swimmer Dara Torres and NFL players is suspected of providing athletes with performance-enhancing drugs, according to a newspaper report.
The New York Times reported on its Web site Monday night that Dr. Anthony Galea was found with human growth hormone and Actovegin, a drug extracted from calf's blood, in his bag at the U.S.-Canada border in late September. He was arrested Oct. 15 in Toronto by Canadian police.
Using, selling or importing Actovegin is illegal in the United States.
The FBI has opened an investigation based in part on medical records found on Galea's computer relating to several professional athletes, people briefed on the inquiry told The Times on condition of anonymity because they did not want to be identified discussing a continuing investigation.
The anonymous sources did not disclose the names of the athletes, and Galea told the newspaper "it would be impossible" for investigators to have found material linking his athletes to PEDs.
According to the newspaper, Galea has developed a blood-spinning technique -- platelet-rich plasma therapy -- to help speed post-surgery recovery. The injection-based therapy was originally approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2001.
Galea visited Woods' home in Florida at least four times in February and March, the newspaper reported, to provide that platelet therapy after Woods' agents were concerned by his slow recovery from June 2008 knee surgery.
Asked about Woods' involvement with Galea, agent Mark Steinberg told the newspaper in an e-mail: "I would really ask that you guys don't write this? If Tiger is NOT implicated, and won't be, let's please give the kid a break."
In a statement to ABC News on Tuesday, Steinberg railed against the paper's story.
"The New York Times is flat wrong, no one at IMG has ever met or recommended Dr. Galea, nor were we worried about the progress of Tiger's recovery, as the Times falsely reported," Steinberg said. "The treatment Tiger received is a widely accepted therapy and to suggest some connection with illegality is recklessly irresponsible.
"Apparently the Times, like so many other news outlets on the Tiger Woods story, has abandoned principle."
Woods announced Friday he is taking an indefinite leave from golf to work on his marriage after allegations of infidelity surfaced in recent weeks.
Torres told the newspaper Galea found a previously undiagnosed tear in her quad tendon.
"Excluding draining my knee, he has never treated me, but I did see his chiropractor who did soft-tissue work on my leg," she said in an e-mail to The Times. "That was the extent of my visit with him."
Torres' agent, Evan Morgenstein, told the AP that Torres was not available for comment Monday night.
Brian H. Greenspan, Galea's criminal defense attorney, said an investigation will vindicate his client.
"Dr. Galea was never engaged in any wrongdoing or any impropriety," Greenspan said. "Not only does he have a reputation that is impeccable, he is a person at the every top of his profession."
Galea, who acknowledged he has used human growth hormone himself for 10 years, told the newspaper he never gave any athletes HGH, which is banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency. And Galea told The Times he has never combined HGH or Actovegin with his platelet treatments.
"All these athletes come see me in Canada 'cause I fix them, and I think people just assume that I'm giving them stuff," he told the newspaper. "They don't have to come to me to get HGH and steroids. You can walk into your local gym in New York and get HGH."
Galea is also being investigated by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for smuggling, advertising and selling unapproved drugs as well as criminal conspiracy, The Times reported.
Uh----ohhh........

I'm guessing this has probably been known for some time ... since Tiger is, well Tiger ... they sort of pushed it under the rug. Now that Tiger's image has lost a lot of luster, maybe something like this is getting the green light.

I agree. That guy has been on juice for years...at least IMO.
This guy has fallen off a cliff, and hasn't reached bottom yet.
If Tiger and Stevie feel like they have taken some guff from non fans in the past, just wait until they finally show their faces at a golf tournament.
Just a point in all of this...all women aren't publicity seekers looking for a buck. There has to be at least a few women involved in all of this who don't want any part of it.
I have always felt a mistake can be made and infidelity doesn't have to be a marriage ender, but this goes way beyond that.
Tigers wife needs to bolt for Sweden and never look back except to sign the papers. This isn't one or two gals in one or two drunken one night flings. This is simply tiger showing a total disrespect for his wife, time and time again. These prolonged indiscretions didn't just happen. They were planned, and that is the big difference maker. Someone who cares knows they screwed up and sees it doesn't happen again.
I don't know Tigers wife, but I am sure she deserves better than that.

i find it kinda funny that all these media outlets are basically saying things about him that they have been waiting years to say. that he's a horrible guy when it comes to things that you should do when you have that kind of status...
with that said, i have heard from several different places that he is a horrible tipper, and by horrible tipper i don't mean that he doesn't leave a 100 dollar bill because he has that kind of money, by horrible tipper i mean he leaves nothing. i heard from a close friend who's family owns a restaurant in akron that the guy didn't tip his server and that his mere presence in the restaurant should have been enough.
and i have heard several mutterings about him in similiar situations. i guess you get your tip if you're a halfway decent looking waitress looking to become a mistress.
i personally think the guy is a jerk, i just get that vibe from watching him on tv. but i still think the guy is a ridiculously good golfer (i don't buy that whole best athlete thing, i don't consider golfers in the same class of athlete as football players and hockey players) and i think the media has been waiting to pound on a guy like this. don't think for 2 seconds they wouldn't do the same with lebron james, er, i mean me.

I heard a story when he was younger that he was in DC for a tournament at Congressional and he booked up an entire restaurant for his family because he didn't want to be hounded. Because the tour was there, every other restaurant was packed. A couple other touring pros (who obviously weren't going to hound Tiger for his autograph) showed up and asked if they could eat and he said no... pretty much an ahole thing to do.
However, I also heard that as he matured a little bit he got a lot better about stuff like that....
So who knows.

Yup, Jim Rome used to be on his case a lot about him stiffing waitors and bell boys. "Come on....keep some hundo's in your pocket for these people and be their hero for the day, otherwise you look like a bad guy."
...I used to listen to Rome a bit. Not anymore.

Well, I saw in, I think it was Sundays Toledo Blade - a lady from, again, I think it was Rossford - she knocked boots with him several times. She was on Good Morning America I believe talking about it.

i don't think rich people should have to drop a 100 in every emplyoee's pocket or anything, but tip like the rest of us do.
i actually talked to a lady who's family owns a pizza place in euclid, and she said you'd never guess it, but jim thome was a horrible tipper on top of always being rude whenever he came in, and albert belle was always polite, tipped well, and always signed autographs when people would ask.
just tip 20%, i don't see how that is a difficult thing when these guys are millionaires. or in tiger's case, on the verge of being the first billionaire athlete

i can pretty much already see what is going to happen with tiger too.
obviously we just heard about how he and his wife are reportedly going to split, and probably divorce (no one can blame her)
tiger will take this leave of absence, he has already lost gillette he may lose a few more sponsors (no way does nike or EA drop him)
he comes back for the masters, he comes determined, he wins, the folks get behind him, because he's "out for blood' against everyone who is currently piling on him, and goes back to being the hero that he is.
he probably gains most if not all of his sponsors back. and everyone goes back to loving him.
why is this easy to tell? because we saw the same thing with kobe.

Dude, get real.
EA Sports would be perfectly fine and sell just as many games with
"Wanda Sykes' PGA Tour Golf 2010"

Kobe hasn't been completely embraced though, and even then, IMO this Tiger scandal is worse... there's always been some doubt about Bryant's guilt/innocence & plus.... #1: Tiger's the most famous athlete in the world. #2: His rep is in the tank now. Ocean bottom. #3: He's an embarrasment. He'll never be viewed in the light he was. NEVER.
Add to that, from a distance he wasn't very likeable to begin with... not very approachable. He is done.

LOL.. done in what way? He's still the best golfer in the world by a fairly wide margin. I'm still more inclined to watch golf and spend money going to a golf tournament if he is in it. Why? Because he is by far the most entertaining golfer in the world to watch because when he plays great he can do things with a set of golf clubs that no other human being can do and when he plays bad, he swears and gets frustrated and slams his club down and thats fun to watch too even though I don't think he should do it....
Rumor is that Tiger is taking the whole year off to work on his "issues".. now if Elin just up and leaves him and there is really nothing left to save, maybe he'll return to golf sooner, I don't know but in the end, you will see the financial hit the tour takes while he's gone.. it will be more significant than putting LEDs in a stoplight I can guarantee you that.

i think kobe's situation was worse because the word "rape" was involved. even though he didn't, it still is attached to your name and some people will always have that image of him. aside from that, and what he really did, yeah tiger was obviously worse because kobe was 1 affair that we know of and tiger is a ton.

I'm glad they are keeping Tiger. On my Tiger Wii game if I hit enough fairways and greens or win enough tournaments it opens up options to buy visors and new clubs and stuff... I'm looking forward to what 2010 will allow me to open up.
