They look like regular 4 prong jacks to me. Not sure how I could set it to touchtone though ...

Dave, nowadays, they don't use 4 prong jacks for phones

Well, when I lived in a house with 4 prong jacks, I used an adapter with the "newer" phone plug hole. Then, depending on the type of telephone you use, you can set them to pulse dial or beep dialing (what's it called??).

So you're telling me that I'm Beta in a VHS world. Or is it VHS in a DVD world? It's one of them. I need to keep up better.

You're Beta in a DVD world. LOL!

My house is the same way. My phone jacks are all set up like what Michelle says she used to do (an adapter). And my phones are programmed for tone dialing (as opposed to pulse)

*L* ... my brother asked me if I was still using my 8-track player ... I said "come on man - get with it - it's all cassettes nowadays!".

The only real problem with your current wiring might be splices, corroded line etc. Just like any other home. The phone company changed jacks and increased the voltage since then, but the lines are still the same, two wires, one tip and one ring. You can just change the jack itself if the lines are in good shape. Tone and rotary dialing are more a function of the device being used.

FYI - if you are looking at getting something from TigerDirect and have a laptop that you want to get rid of, they have a decent 'trade-in' program. Basically, you go this site - http://www.tigerdirect.com/sectors/recycle/index.asp which in turn will take you here - https://www.cpsparts.com/tigerdirect/valuewizard.aspx

Enter your info - they are mainly wanting to see what processor is in your laptop and they provide a trade-in credit at TigerDirect. They pay for shipping to them (you do have to get it packed somehow though at your expense) and within 2 weeks they either give you the credit you were quoted initially or contact you with what the new offer is.

It appears in the end they are just after the processor for resale purposes and maybe a few other parts. Which is fine with me as they are saying they are going to give me $225 for my current laptop. There's no way I could get anyhwere near that on Ebay, which I was also looking at.

So, we will see. I am off to Fedex Kinko's tomorrow and expect to hear from them within 2 weeks and hopefully will have a $225 credit at TigerDirect to get my laptop!

There rebate program is pretty good too. I got back something like $200 the last system I built totally with them. It went all into my paypal account right away vs getting it mailed to me.

I found out I can get a $100 Best Buy gift card or a $100 MasterCard thru my bank so I am using that towards the laptop. I am waiting on a check thru my work so hopefully I will own one soon!

If you have BB bucks coming, this would be a wonderful deal:

Vista though, of course. Found it at FatWallet, so I can't take credit

Thanks thats the one I ended up buying. I like it so far but I have only owned it for a few hours. Vista is going to take some getting used to and typing on this keyboard is a lil strange but it's sweet to not be restricted anymore.

Update - got my TigerDirect gift card rather quickly for $225. Not bad for a laptop that I wasn't sure what I was going to do with.

Next step - I ordered the new laptop on Sat. Hopefully it won't take too long to get here!!

Here's the one I settled on - http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2901388&CatId=2289

As I mentioned, I did not want Vista right now, and this one was nice with XP Pro and 1 gig of ram with a slot still available for Ram. That was unusual - most systems that had 1 gig were 512 x 2 and no slots open. So, if I wanted to upgrade I had to get rid of all the Ram that was there. Now, I just need to buy a 1 gig stick and have 2 gig. I thought that was a nice and helps keep the cost down.

And it was nice that this entire computer is built and supported in the US. At least that's what the description says!

I noticed the USA thing too, pretty nice and with that refund or whatever it's a great price.

I love my laptop. It's so convenient to be able to do anything, anywhere. And stealing peoples internet is fun hehe

Last update for anyone that still cares - got my laptop on Wed. So, I ordered on Sat and here by Wed. Not bad. It was shipped from an Ohio location so that probably helped.

So far, so good. Had a little issue with an Intel Pro Wireless software that the tech help ended up just deleting and going with the MSFT built in stuff. Other than that, runs fine and not too much junk pre-installed on it. I HATE when you get computers and there's stuff for AOL, google, etc already installed. Even if you uninstall it, there's still 'footprints' left unless you do a complete reformat. Just a pet peeve of mine I guess.

Overall, good experience with TigerDirect, their trade-in program and the final product.
