Agreed.
And the QB, especially when they're doing badly, will go for the guy he feels most confident in making a play. Maybe a bad mistake. But when you need to make a play you do what you think has the best chance to accomplish that.

I do know this..............Given the choice between Weis and someone like Daboll, there IS no choice.

Charlie Weis is out after five seasons as Notre Dame coach.
A member of Notre Dame's coaching staff told ESPN's Joe Schad on Monday that the staff was informed of the decision in an afternoon meeting.
The New York Daily News first reported that Weis was out.
Notre Dame players have scheduled a mid-afternoon players meeting that will include a vote on whether they want to play in a bowl game after a 6-6 season. Athletic director Jack Swarbrick has said he will consider the players' wishes in deciding on a bowl trip.
The member of the coaching staff told Schad a decision hasn't been made on an interim coach; Notre Dame will wait to see whether the players will decide if they want to participate in a bowl game first.
Weis was not in his office early Monday, though there were no announcements about whether he will return for a sixth season. Swarbrick has said he will make that decision within the next few days.

What, exzactly has Wies done? The Pats O was leaps and bounds better after he left. The Pats change coordinators like some people bathe, yearly, and not much else changes. It's all Billy and the talent. He's just a Öame.

Notre Dame's offense has been pretty good in his time there. Does he get no credit for that?
Having an experienced OC is better than having a 1st time OC....I wouldn't be against Weis as OC.

I would MUCH rather have Weiss than Daboll.
I would also be just as comfortable having Carthon as Daboll.... I see them as interchangeable.
Ultimately, however, much of it comes down to talent & execution. We all generally hated Bruce Arians when he was here, because the results were less than stellar... but he's garnered a pretty darn good offensive resume in Pittsburgh. Same guy, same OC... different talent & execution.
The Arians rhetoric aside, I still want Weiss (most anybody) instead of Daboll.

I'd definitely be okay with it. It's not his fault that his kicker can't execute simple chip shots and the team somehow collapses. It at least isn't because of his coaching. I would love our offense under him going forward to be honest...

Some guys are born head coaches, some guys are better off as O-Cordinators, Charlie is better as a OC. Plus I'd rather have his concentrate & work exclusivly with Brady making him a NFL QB.
If we dont go after & get Charlie for the sole purpose of QB coach for Brady or Off_Cordinator it will show me Lerner is all talk and dosent know how to win.
Now if we try and he decided to do something else thats his choice, but we as an orginzation need him for the deveolpment of Brady Quinn, to not try is to me giving up.

Sorry ClayM57, Charlie will not even think about coming here as long as Mandunce is in charge, they don't see eye to eye at ALL. So, that would be a good place to start, replace a losing HC & OC with a winning one. ND has scored plenty of points, it's their "D" that has cost them the games. I could really get into scoring about 30+ points a game, sure would help our "D" get off the field once in awhile.

I've said it before and I'll say it again .........
You can call the greatest plays in the world ..... have brilliant strategy ...... and do everything right ...... but with crappy talent you still won't win.
We currently have crappy talent. Coaching won't change that to any great degree. Play calling won't do anything but try to minimize our weaknesses .... and weaknesses .... and further weaknesses .....
Play calling is great and all ..... but better players beat worse players damn near every time. Guess which side of that particular ledger we fall on.
This team was a bad team last year. It got worse as the year went on. We have (and had) no depth ...... we have few capable starters ..... and this is to be expected based on what we saw last year. Bad players get beat damn near every time out. The Lions have a lot of bad players. Result? We have a lot of bad players. Result? The Raiders ... the Bucs ..... the Chefs ..... how are these teams which all lack talent doing this year?
Coaching is great .... and can put good players in position to beat other good players ..... but it rarely puts bad players in position to beat good players.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

I agree.....But what better way to get rid of Mangini & not pay his remaining salary. Lerner steps in tells Mangini ok, Weiss is my OC, & Ryan is still my DC and you are the head coach...make it happen. Mangini walks Holgram steps in for one year as HC & GM......We win the Super Bowl and we all get free beer great tasting beer....ok maybe alittle to off base

I know some like to paint Randy Lerner as some kind of a dunce, but I remember back when Butch Davis was coach and the pressure just got to be too much for him.
What did Lerner do?...we don't know...but that is the way some people with power want it.
I have little doubt that Mangini is feeling the pressure of Lerner looking over his shoulder.
Many believe Lerner should fire Mangini...but IMO, that would be the easy way out for Mangini. Instead, Lerner is allowing Mangini the honor of trying to fix the mess Mangini has created.
In short, Mangini is digging his own hole, deeper and deeper and if fired after the season is over, Mangini may never be a headcoach in the NFL again...
...and Mangini will not be able to blame anyone, but himself.

That doesn't appear to be his style. he seems to relish the quiet life in the background. So I question if we will ever SEE him step up. maybe just maybe he will step to the podium when he announces his choice as Czar.. But I bet it won't be to take questions,,
Lerner doesn't seem to want any limelight like Jerry Jones or Dan Snyder.. For me personally, I like that better than a loudmouth owner.. but that's just me I suppose.

I think a lot of us Lerner haters don't like the fact that he's allowed this to happen in the first place...3 times now...HIS leadership abilities are horrible...it's not hard to come in start firing people after they fail. he fails to build a culture of collaboration and teamwork and it starts with him....

Lerner wouldn't make the decision..whomever the VP and GM are will make those choices..the first thing is do they keep Manpolen? If they do, do they keep Dumboll? There's the next one..because if they don't feel he's qualified..he's out..then the next one would be ,do they let EM choose another OC ,with parameters set out,or do they choose it? Peen says well the coach should choose..(funny how that debate went over with Rac) ..well if they feel Gini isn't going to make the best decision, they'll round up a few and say go through this list..

wojo...Has Lerner not admitted he needs someone to run the football side of the Browns?
Randy as good as said, he failed and that he is not the right person to be making the football decissions for the franchise.
Lerner did not "allow" this to happen...I didn't hear the Lerner haters say Mangini's hire would lead to the Browns being 1-10, with the worst team in the NFL.
That 20/20 hindsight is working great for some of you.
As for Lerner "allowing" this to happen...who would have predicted that the Tenn. Titans would lose their first 6 games then turn around and win 5 in a row?
The point is, an owner has to give a headcoach a chance to turn a team around, if they are heading in the wrong direction. Mangini is being allowed to show the world what kind of HC he is and he wont be able to claim that the owner did not give him a chance.
This just another reason I believe it's very important for Lerner to

As NFL suitors line up for the services of Charlie Weis (or, possibly, as agent Bob Lamonte tries to create the impression that NFL suitors are lining up for the services of Charlie Weis), we've caught wind of a fairly surprising rumor that the Browns could be in play to land Weis as offensive coordinator.
Our first reaction (and likely yours) was that there's no way Weis would work with coach Eric Mangini, given Weis' close relationship with Patriots coach Bill Belichick and the intense hatred (if there's a stronger word to describe the emotion than hatred, then that) between Belichick and Mangini, due to Spygate and other complications.
But, as the fairly surprising rumor goes, Weis would land in Cleveland as offensive coordinator after the termination of coach Eric Mangini. There's also another fairly surprising rumor that Weis met over the weekend with owner Randy Lerner and G.M. trainee Bernie Kosar.
We're not sure what to make of it, and we're putting it out there primarily because it's an intriguing possibility.
Most intriguing about this possibility is that it would make the Browns more like the Raiders, who routinely hire assistant coaches before hiring a head coach, and then force the head coach to work with men whom the head coach possibly wouldn't have hired.
The move also would be odd because the Browns supposedly are looking to hire a big-name football executive, who presumably would have an opinion as to whether Weis should be hired, before or after a head coach is hired.
The obvious connection between the Browns and Weis comes from quarterback Brady Quinn. Weis coached Quinn at Notre Dame, making him into a guy who was regarded as one of the top picks in the 2007 draft, before he slid all the way into the 20s.
But, again, if the attraction to Weis comes from his connection to Quinn, the notion that both an offensive coordinator and a quarterback could be foisted upon a new head coach suggests that maybe the Browns should consider changing their color scheme to silver and black.

Why would any head coach not want to have Weis E Coyote as an offensive coordinator?!
The guy was probably the best offensive coordinator in the past ten years and if Cleveland could somehow get him, it would be quite the hire.

I wouldn't call him the best offensive coordinator of the past ten years (Norv Turner, Mike Martz, Peyton Manning, Cam Cameron, Gary Kubiak, Sean Payton all would have to be in the argument .)
But he was pretty good. And better than any offensive coordinator we've had in awhile.

Only Coordinator I'd put in that same catagory is Sean Payton *and I guess Manning, although he also has himself to throw the ball.*
Either way, Weis would be the best Browns coordinator since Lindy and maybe even further back than that. If you can get him, you have to get him.

I agree that this would be a huge hire, but the main point from the article still stands.
Hire Coach (Mangini) -> Hire GM (Kok) -> Fire GM -> Talk about hiring VP/Czar/Whatever -> Go and hire awesome assistant?
If the Browns refuse to move away from these ridiculous organizational/hiring practices, how can they not continue to be long-standing joke of the NFL?
Hire Weiss, but don't hire him without your VP of football to oversee the hire. Lerner, you have your work cut out finding that VP/GM guy. Don't lose focus.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

Until when you are interviewing for head coaches and none of them want to take the job because they can't hire their own coordinators. Then he becomes head coach after being unable to fill the vacancy Apparently HotB is Dan Synder...

cfrs...I read the same story this morning and the longer I thought about it, the more questions it brought up...as the article pointed out... If Lerner did interview Weis, he either went over the head of his yet to be hired Czar and/or HC ...OR...Lerner interviewed Weis at the request of his yet to be hired Czar and/or HC. I have a hard time believing that Randy Lerner is dumb enough to circumvent the authority of his Czar before the Czar is even hired. There is another possibility...maybe Charlie Weis floated the rumor to drive up interest hoping he might get a high dollar offer. I won't allow myself to believe that Lerner has already hired Holmgren, Parcells or Heckert as his Czar...a hire of that magnitude would be hard to keep quiet. There could be a possibility that Lerner has hired one of the other names on his Czar list, such as Accorsi or Wolf.

While I have no problem with Wies and think he'd make a good (if not great) OC especially with Quinn here,, I think it's a mistake to hire him if you don't have a Czar, GM and HC in place first..
Another thing, if by some chance mangini stays, i don't even want HIM to make that choice without the OK from the top football guy
