Did the "old vet" promise the starting position to the young guy five years earlier?

Did the "old vet" go on to perform worse than the young guy in an earlier time slot which gave the young guy an awful lead in?

Is everyone begin very results oriented in both of these situations?

It doesn't matter what the old vet says, does, or "promised" when the bosses, owners, or other people in authority make decisions.

Both guys are under contract. Both guys can either void their contract and move on ..... or accept what their bosses say will be the new arangement.

If NBC had decided to fire O'Brien 3 years ago due to some matter outside the realm of NBC corporate business, it would not matter what Leno had promised, because, ultimately, the decision is not his to make. That's what people seem to be disregarding.

Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

Here is why it is NBC's fault...and why Jay has to take some blame.

NBC and Jay came out and said..."We will get our butts kicked by CSI...and by original programming...what we are hoping is that we will beat them when they go into reruns"

Well...that was happening...just as they saw it happening....NBC did not give them time to make it to RERUN season...they promised Leno that he would run through the summer....Summer was when he would finally start winning the battle...until new shows in the fall start again....therefore NBC was at fault.

Why Leno is at fault...and I do not blame him for it...he was looking out for #1. Leno actually put in his contract an 11:30 clause if NBC tried to screw him....they did...so that clause went into effect. ...Its why NBC was originally going to put just at 1130 for just 30 minutes...leaving Conan with an hour....Combine that with Jay inviting Conan onto his show and "handing" him the baton....and you have Jay looking a little like a schmuck.

Jays ratings were horrible...which caused the affiliates whose 11 pm news were getting crushed across the board...and giving Conan a weak lead in.

Most of Jay's audience (the older demographic) were used to watching Jay and going to bed...they have been doing it for year.

Conan and NBC tried to come in...and play to the "Tonight Show" audience...most of them were in bed...and the ones that were watching...were thinking...well he is no Jay.

The reason Conan had been so good the last few weeks was because the gloves were off...be edgy....be younger...go out swinging.

NBC wanted Conan to come in and pick up the younger demographic...but then handcuffed him to do a show that has been aimed at an older audience for 30 years.....as soon as Conan did his thing...people thought it was some of he best stuff.

Its why Arsenio did so well against Johnny.....Johnny was your dads late night....Arsenio was young and hip......If you want the younger audience...you need to do a show they will watch.

I feel a bit sorry Conan and Leno too, but all in all I don't care.

I've always loved Dave.
