He he, I know what you mean.

Hey Bard, I live in Urbana. Every time I meet a Browns fan in Springfield, I ask if they go to DT. Just to see if it's you.

What follows is a post I made on another board. It pretty well sums up how I feel about Joey Porter. Not just the football player or potential signing prospect, but the man himself. Never forget this advice My Father gave me: "you become the kind of people you hang around." If what he said is even only remotely true, do you really want Joey Porter hanging around 76 Groza?

____________________________

From the first time I ever saw him in an interview, the guy has always impressed me as being a 'bulbous tip.' You know the kind I'm talking about- that particular breed of mouth-breathing, knuckle-dragging idiot who's not even deep enough to qualify as a full-length

And it wasn't because he wore a Steeler's uniform, either. I would view him the same way if he wore a different uniform... or no uniform at all. I'd view him the same way if I lived down the street from him. Come to think of it, I have lived down the street from him, at least figuratively. There were tons of 'Joey Porters' in my neighborhood when I was growing up. I saw Joey Porter every day while I was stuck in that neighborhood. That's why I live in a different neighborhood today. Worked my ass off to be able to make a life for myself where the Joey Porters of this world are few and far between. Folks who fit his profile did nothing for me back when I was a little kid and teenager (when I had no choice but to live near'em), and he does nothing for me now (when my old adult ass gets to switch the channels on my TV). Sorry... call me judgemental, but I have an active dislike for people who seem to willingly wear thuggish classlessness like it's some f*ed up, ass-backwards 'badge of honor.' It's irritating and annoying... because after millennia of time spent on this planet, Human Beings should amount to more than the likes of him.

The worst part is this: when players come into the league, they're very young men. I can look past a lot of dumbchit from them, early on- because I remember being 21 myself. BUT... over a 10-15 year career, you'd expect to see some evidence of personal growth as a man- an evolving persona, a more mature presence during an interview... something. Joey Porter seems to be the same thick, classless dolt he was when he started his NFL career. He's still doing the same things he always did, he's still saying the same kind of foolish, low-class crap he's always said, and he's still making the same thick-skulled choices in his life that he's always made. That doesn't make him just ignorant... it makes him stupid. Ignorance can be cured. Stupidity can't- because the 'ignorant one in question' is always juuuust clueless enough to think that he's perfectly fine the way he is.

Slow personal growth = 'socially challenged.'
Zero personal growth = Stupid (yes- with a big, fat capital 'S'), in my book.

Dude is getting old for this profession. I see maybe 2 more years of decent production, a progressive 'diminished role' wherever he lands, and final walking papers quickly thereafter. And that's the point at which he'll reach his defining moment, as a person. He'll leave his chosen profession, and become 'John Q Public'... equipped with a thick tongue, a shallow pool of intellectual resources, a narcissistic attitude- and an atrophied set of interpersonal skills. Not a particularly impressive war chest of 'success tools,' if you ask me.

I hope he's saved some money, because he's sure gonna need it. What I've seen from him suggests that his basic IQ will severely limit his future employment options. I truthfully can't envision any network desperate enough to sign him on as analyst, 'color commentator,' or even Key Grip... so a future on TV is probably not in his deck of cards. Aside from "acting" tough, mouthing off, hiding behind a posse during night club skirmishes, or getting tossed 2-3 yards into the sidelines by 'Souldjas', what does he have to offer the world?

Loud, thuggish, opinionated, out-of-work, and stupid is no way to spend the next 30 or 40 years.

Wow.... "Reality."

It couldn't descend (like a sack of wet cement dropped from a 13-story building) upon a more deserving person.
