2006 3rd round draft choice by SD. No passes attempted, looks like 2 rushes for 13 yards (according to nfl.com). So, below are his Clemson stats. Nice improvement from year 1 to 2.
Looks like the Chargers low tendered him, so we'd need to give up a 3rd rounder. Also looks like there were trade talks last summer, but obviously nothing happened. In a quick search, I didn't see who might have been interested. According to McShay, he was second best thrower behind Cutler at his Combine. 4.74 40, and looked good at his pro day. Apparently the Cowboys and Vikings took a look at him prior to the draft too.
Senior bowl notes "Clemson QB Charlie Whitehurst finished 7-for-9 for 90 yards and a touchdown in a Senior Bowl victory. After Jay Cutler struggled to move the ball, Whitehurst led the North squad on a great drive capped by a 15-yard touchdown pass. Whitehurst is something of an enigma to pro scouts. He's very talented, but inconsistent."
Aparently Buffalo is interested in him too - at least they were Feb 27th.

edit: Lombardi on the National Football post specifically called out Smith and Whitehurst as 2 RFA QBs that may be looked at this offseason - doesn't mean anything, just more info
