I am with you. With Delhomme, at least all we lose is money. Did Quinn ever really have a chance to succeed here?

He had just as much chance as any quarterback we've had - even more of a chance than Couch or Holcomb.

He took his chance and flushed it.

I think they are looking at him as more of a power back to pair with Harrison than a FB to take away reps from Vickers.

Picture this on third and one, Vickers blocking for Hillis. (that is kinda scary)

I like the trade in only that EVERYBODY knew we wanted to get rid of Quinn. It seems we got a decent player AND two picks, even if they are late rounders. Late rounders can always be used to move up spots.

After reading some of your thoughts, I am starting to change my tune on Hillis, however I am still not crazy about the trade. I think we got a solid football player, imo quinn was never the answer at QB, and those from the old board will know I have disliked Quinn since before the 2007 draft. Honestly I would feel more comfortable with the trade had we not signed Jake Delbum. Then at least we knew that Wallace was going to start, I fear that Delbum will be our starter, and that will really frustrate me.

I take it you didn't watch a lot of Browns football the last few years. If you had, you'd know he had his chance and blew it.

Quinn didn't get a lot of starts,.,, what he got was lots of chances to WIN the job and KEEP the job.. He couldn't beat out Frye, then he couldn't beat out Anderson.. then when he finally did, he played horribly and lost the job.

Yeah, he may not have gotten a ton of starts, but he got plenty of chances to earn those starts...

Quinns a good kid and I wish him well.. But I'm glad that era is over...

Hillis is not coming in to replace vickers. He is a halfback that plays like a halfback but looks like a fullback a la mike alstott.

Anyways, good move. Could have been hillis and a first last year, but those days have passed.

I agree. That's why I didn't mention Vickers.

Who is Hillis going to replace? We'll assume Harrison is the starter. So who is the odd man out? Jennings? Davis? Hillis?

I think Vickers....if not traded....he doesn't catch the ball all that well...a WCO fullback better have good hands.....Hillis is looked at as more of a runner IMO....our big back.....Vickers can't run either....he is a great blocker, but a second string guard would be a better blocker if blocking is what you want.

Hillis appears to be the "big" back many have been wanting. Drafting a back appears un-necessary at this point.

What's left to do is alot of work in the defensive backfield and interior OL.
The wheels are turning in Berea.

Our shopping list is a bit shorter now, isn't it? Not that I'm expecting that much out of my Browns this year. I just want to see some real football.

I don't know, peen... blocking from the fb position is significantly different from the guard position, even in a pull/trap offense. I think they're two different animals.

Besides, if we're facing 3rd and short, who will we sweep right with? Oh wait... I forgot carthon isn't here anymore.

Btw bfs79, I should have put j/c... That was in response to the mild panic over vickers' future, not your post.

Hillis is NOT a full back. He's a pass catching, big bodied, short yardage RB.

LOL at a guard being a better blocker at fullback. You think a guard has the vision or quickness to predict holes and block in the open field?

There is a place for a blocking FB in the WCO. Mack Strong did nothing but block, and he was key to Holmgren's offense in Seattle.

I think we're looking at Hillis as a guy to pound the rock at running back while keeping Vickers at FB.

BTW, you want irony?

Hillis first action was against Cleveland in 2008, Brady Quinn's first start. You'll remember him as the guy who carried Kamerion Wimbley for 5 yards.

I was to the point where I didn't care if he was gone or not and figured he was outta here with the two we just signed. I just hope he has a real chance to play some ball and has great success. Both for himself and for our draft picks.

Lets see, we traded a 1st rounder for a 7th round FB, a 6th next year and a whatever in 2012.

We have this whole buy low, sell high thing all mixed up...

I am sick. Not only did WE the fans get chumped but holmgren and mangini chumped themselves. eric" anybody but Quinn "mangini now has Jake " the snake bitten" delhomme, and seneca "mr. mediocre" wallace to compete with in our division. boy this outta sell tickects.

ok, point one. mangini. his anybody but Quinn stand , leaves this coach with a PR nightmare. Quinn is surrounded with the level of of talent and an offensive minded coach who has updated his tudor electric football playbook and has an excellent chance to not only unseat Orton but to excell. call this the drive act 2. We will get to see a slow aging Delhomme play against tough AFC North defenses and this will be a DISASTER. Then we get to see a journeyman Seneca Wallace play against real defenses and watch him unravel and then mangini gets what he deserves.

I cannot be more disgusted. mike " I need two years of film to evaluate a QB" Holmgren acedes to mangini and we get chump change. Mike Holmgren who has eaten those words gets a second helping of "you don't give away talent" and then conducts a three beans fos a cow trade of quinn.

This trade is absolutely the best thing ever for the career of brady quinn and my best guess is our groundhog day if football hell continues. watching our two mediocrities get brutalized ensures we will not hit our win total of 09 and mangini is toast. he deserves his fate.

Wow..I will still get sick everytime I have to see all those Quinn #10 jerseys at the game..It will just be a constant reminder of the blunder and colassal mistake that this organization made. Maybe the Browns should have a day where Fans could come down and make a huge pile of wasted draft picks jerseys from 99 on and light it on fire. It will be like ridding ourselves of the past and give those that are having a hard time coming to grips with this one in particular..some closure.

Hillis' value was much higher than a 7th. He is a valued player throughout the league. I'm hoping he can play RB well, but as a FB, he's a very good player.

Bullcrap..I hope Quinn plays as well in Denver as he did in Cleveland. If he goes to Denver and lights it up it will be yet another mistake our team has made frankly I am sick of always being the team that makes the mistakes.

I am glad Quinn was traded as we can finally move on from the Quinn/DA debates. It will be interesting to see if we try to trade up for Bradford or if draft a developmental guy like Pike/McCoy. Besides we can still have a good time debating Delhomme vs Wallace.

I like how when people are enraged at the mediocrity of Wallace and Delhomme, they conveniently forget that Quinn was afraid to play football and couldn't hit Lake Erie.

I've heard a bit of it through e-mail and talk radio, but I'm waiting for the floodgates to open here.

There are two plays that made me realize Quinn didn't have it

1) I believe it was against the Ravens where our WR was running like a hitch route. However, the Corner not fearing the deep ball at all never moved his feet and sprinted foward and picked off the ball.

2) It was the Monday Night game and Quinn was trying to throw a hail mary. However like 3 of the 4 passes never even landed in bounds. I think Gruden said something like : "Well he at least has to throw it in bounds"

Actually, we traded a guy that was picked in the 1st, but should NEVER have been.. Basically, we traded a 4th round QB (only in true value) for a RB that has played beyond his draft status.

we got the better of that deal...

At least with the high 3rd from the Raiders for Wimbley we can afford to pick up that developmental qb and get rid of Ratliff.

This will be better for Quinn.

But considering we used a first round pick to get Quinn and got essentially something slightly better than nothing I question the timing of the move.

Say all you want about how bad Quinn may be or how good Delhomme might be but you just get the feeling that Holmgren didn't handle this one very well.

Wow!

As soon as you come down off the BQ jock sniff high, You'll see that this is not a bad thing.

We won't draft a RB until late.(6 or 7)
We draft a mid QB to compete with Rat.(3 or 4)
DL seems OK
DB, RG\RT, WR and OLB early in the draft.(Just read about the Wimbly thing)

What day does the draft start?

I think Davis will be the odd man out. He snitched on the Browns with the injury thing, and the Browns don't have a whole lot invested in him. Acutally I won't be suprised if him and Jennings get cut, and we draft another back in the latter rounds (this is a very deep RB draft).
