Why not? Bodies are needed in camp. Chris Jennings was a backup at Arizona and in the CFL before we signed him last year and he looks like he's at least an okay player.

Why would they show interest in this guy? I'm a little confused..

Let's turn this around:

Why would they show interest in James Davis?

Why would they show interest in Chris Jennings?

Just because they are on the Browns roster doesn't make them better than any other backup on other teams.

It's not like Jennings and Davis are well-versed in Holmgren's WCO, and therefore have a huge leg-up on someone like Wynn. 'Backs are 'backs, and the differences in learning new systems are minimal for that position.

I'm all for bringing in ten 'backs if it means finding a guy who is a little better than the rest. Our guys behind Harrison have shown no more promise than any other 'backs on other teams.

Well, Jennings will always have a special place in my heart for that TD against Pittsburgh last year. For that, I'd give him a roster spot through 2010.

Seriously, get as many in camp as we can. Heck, draft Blount too (I know that's not a popular idea). I'd rather be stacked at that position than have 1-2 good guys and then weak at the bottom. Heck, the way we go through RB's....we need them all.

Contrary to a report from the New Orleans Times-Picayune that cornerback Pacman Jones failed to show up for his open workout, Jason La Canfora of NFL Network reports that the session is occurring.

"He's running the 40 right now and just did an interview with the camera crew we have there," La Canfora said via e-mail.

Interesting. They needed to do something on defense that's for certain. How much is Porter good for now a days, though? The guy was getting practically zero job offers before this...

Checked the Ravens roster, Corey Ivy, cb, is listed in the UFA list.
Should the Browns make an offer for him? I don't know his contract details but I've seen him play. I think he is better than Adam "Pac Man" Jones.

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

Miami Dolphins looking to trade guard Justin Smiley

by Edgar Thompson

Smiley
The Dolphins have told left guard Justin Smiley not to join the team for the off-season conditioning program because it plans to trade him, according to a source close to the team.
Smiley, a six-year veteran, has been the team’s best guard when healthy, but he’s missed five games - and eight starts - the past two seasons because of leg and shoulder injuries.

The source said Smiley found out Saturday that the team was going in another direction.

Several teams have shown interest in Smiley, who has made 73 NFL starts since the 49ers selected him in the second round of the 2004 draft out of Alabama.

Last week’s decision to sign Richie Incognito to one-year deal was expected to create competition at right guard, with Donald Thomas and Nate Garner.

But Smiley’s job appeared to be safe.

Now, it appears the team believes Incognito’s penchant for dirty play, fines (85K in ‘08 and ‘09) and penalties, including 10 for 115 yards in 2009, is a safer bet than Smiley’s injury history.

The 6-foot-3, 310-pound Smiley was the team’s biggest free-agent signing in 2008, inking a five-year, $25 million contract with $9 million guaranteed.

He started 24 games in two seasons with Miami.

Smiley seems like a solid player if healthy.

But choosing Incognito over anyone seems crazy. That guy is a basket case.

We gotta NOT get this guy. I have had enough crap shoots and question marks for awhile. Draft brings enough of those with it, so this year will have enough development stuff. Hopefully we pick better stock.
Go Browns!

When he came out, he was the cream of the crop. Depending on what they want, I'd consider getting him depending on a physical.........

Cleveland Browns coach Eric Mangini says other trades are in the works
By Tony Grossi, The Plain Dealer
March 23, 2010, 11:01AM

Browns coach Eric Mangini says that the Browns are still talking trades with other teams. Don't pencil in your Browns roster just yet. There is another transaction -- or two -- in the works.

Coach Eric Mangini said at NFL owners meetings this morning that the trade of linebacker Kamerion Wimbley to Oakland for a third-round pick was partly done to create an opportunity for another trade.

"It's not that we didn't like Kam or didn't think he was doing good things," Mangini said. "It's just that having that pick (No. 75 overall) allows us to have just some more versatility.

"It's difficult to part with a character guy (like Wimbley). I really like Kam. I really do. It wasn't a function of wanting to move him. It was more of a function of where do we have depth? Where can we trade to give us some more ability to address other areas?"

The trade of Wimbley gave the Browns five selections in the first 87 picks. They also own the Jets' third-round pick, plus their own in the first three rounds.

"A little bit of this was done in anticipation of being able to get some other things done that will involve draft picks," Mangini said.

It's possible the Browns could use one of their extra picks in trading for, or signing, a restricted free agent that requires draft-choice compensation.

Mangini said the club will revisit these trade talks next week.

"Until it's done, you can't guarantee it," he said. "But it gives us flexibility if we want to do that. If not, then you get another third-round draft pick, which is really a good spot to draft, whether we want to address the secondary or someplace else."

I dont doubt it, I would also mention Kirk Morrison in Oak, and Simms the guard from Seattle. I think another darkhorse would be Floyd from San Diego.

Not saying to sign him to a tender, but a trade. Might be possible to get him for less. Also I thought he was only given a first round tender and Vincent Jackson was given the max tender?

Also, Floyd is a solid player and would improve our WR crop, but I dont think he is worth a 1st round pick.

THanks for the read....

Wonder who they have targeted as a LB... or did they aquire that pick to help in the move up to get someone they want at QB... so many options...

They were both given the max. If the Chargers were willing to trade him for less, they wouldn't have tendered him at such a high level. Obviously no one is willing to pay that price for Floyd.

using a painful example:

Several years ago, the Packers franchised one of their starting DTs. His name? Corey Williams.

Any team signing Williams while under the tag would have to giive up a pair of #1 picks.

The Browns wound up trading for him for a single 2nd rounder.

It seems that teams tendered a lot of their own players rather high ....

That doesn't necessarily mean that the team is holding out for a #1. (or whatever the tender is)

One big difference there. Williams was a UFA and franchising him was the only way they could keep him and still get value.

Floyd is an RFA and the Chargers could have tendered him at a lower level and still got value. Instead they tendered him at the 1st/3rd level which no one would be willing to give up.

I think it's safe to say that San Diego has no interest in dealing Floyd.

if you believe mangini's comments about depth, they're not going to replace an olb for an olb. I think sims is the more realistic option. Maybe a trade for dunta Robinson? What's his value these days?

further, i think it's also safe to say we might not have enough interest in floyd to justify trading for him. they didn't say they wanted veteran receiver or even proven receiver, they said they want speed receiver. floyd has some but his'a big body, not a burner.

I'd love it if he'd actually come to Cleveland.
