Who brings a gun to an airport, especially if you're expecting to get on a plane?
Yeah...I'm thinking this is a joke. Or at least I hope it is.

It happens. As long as it doesn't keep him off the field I could care less. I've wandered through some pretty interesting places after forgetting to secure my weapon before.

I don't know, and hope it is bogus, but when major news outlets start reporting, it goes beyond the point of being a joke.

Do i need to point out that there are plenty of documented cases of major news networks picking a story up, only to retract it later because it turned out it was bogus? Major news networks have a tendency of not researching before publishing something.

Probably the same people that think it's ok to carry in a church, school or bar and resturant
If true, it's stupid,,, but probably an oversite/honest mistake.

IF it's true, he'll get a small slap on the wrist from the league. I don't think he's ever been in trouble before.

While incredibly dumb, it's not as serious as it sounds. Careless? Sure but it wasn't Plax esque.
He had the gun in his checked luggage, not on his person (as he walked a the plane).
I believe having a firearm in a checked bag is legal, it just has to be declared?
It wasn't declared, so he probably faces a stiff fine. If he legally owns the gun (paperwork, permit, etc.) and it was an honest mistake (i.e. he forgot it was stashed in a side pocket), then it's not a huge issue in terms of a potential suspension. At least I wouldn't think.

Not saying it wasn't dumb (or serious) but there's a huge difference between checking a gun in a bag vs. trying to walk through security (or on to a plane) with one.

The first article is stating that it was in his carry-on, not a checked bag.
So, in your last post, he's the dumber of the two options

I find that hard to believe but who knows.
I thought I read that they said he was stopped as he was boarding the plane? (i.e. they found the gun in his checked bag and then arrested him as he tried to board the plane).
I can't imagine security would not immediately seize the bag and the gun as it was x-rayed. If they didn't, they should all be fired.

Browns DL Shaun Rogers was arrested Thursday for gun possession at Hopkins airport in Cleveland.
The Cleveland Plain Dealer confirms, so it's not an April Fool's attempt. Rogers was preparing to board a plane when officers discovered the loaded weapon in his carry-on bag. Rogers told the officers that he forgotten the gun was there. We're assuming he was not planning to use the gun on the plane, but that leaves unexplained why he was carrying a loaded weapon in the first place.
WHAT?!?!?! HTH did he get it through security?! Are you kidding me?
I hope he didn't do this because he'd rather spend 30 days in jail than have to play for the Browns again. How do you not know you are holding a loaded gun?
Still holding out hope this is an april fool's

it actually happened a few months ago (i think someone may have posted the article here) man got a gun onto a plane via carry on bag, security completely missed it. luckily the guy had no idea he had a gun in there and immediately told the crew about it.
scary.

Exactly what I was thinking. We supposedly decided not to cause he was so valuable to the team. Gotta be on the field to be valuable. Oh well, maybe missing a game or 2 or however many will make him last longer into the season . . . Your a friggin' idiot, Shaun.

It is what it is.
I don't know - "preparing to board a plane" could just be bad terminology. I'm HOPING it was "preparing to board a plane, going through the scanners", and not "just about on the plane."
Think about it - if he was through security already, why would officers search his bag again right outside the plane?
Who knows.
And regardless - stupid stupid stupid! If he "forgot" the gun was there, that means the last time he took the bag anywhere he forgot it. There is absolutely never an excuse to "forget" where an unloaded gun is, let alone a loaded gun.

sean taylor, eddy curry, antoine walker, etc...
these guys are becoming targets. some of it is brought on by the person themselves. some of it not.
these guys have every right to have guns, they just need to do it the proper way.
bringing a gun to an airport is just plain stupid. he either didn't know or maybe he does fit the bill as a big dumb defensive lineman.

I disagree. Registered or not, he's in trouble. Not even cops can take guns into an airplane. Fed. marshalls, yes - anyone else? Check it with your baggage - and I think you need to declare it even then. On your person, or carry on? No way - registered, unregistered - no difference as far as planes are concerned.

Guns in checked baggage are legal. At least as far as I know. That's not stupid - it's following the law.

Thanks arch.. I was going to make the same two points you made.. "preparing to board a plane" could be interpreted as any point from parking in the parking deck to walking down the tunnel.. my guess is that he was at the airport preparing to board a plane but he was in the security line.
And I double agree with your comment that most others overlooked. He forgot the loaded gun was in there? If at any point you don't remember where you left your loaded gun, then you shouldn't be allowed to have one....
