Uh....yeah.....Is that a problem for you?
Honestly, if I just see them put forth maximum effort in the first game it'll be something I don't think I've seen in at least 10 years.
It's not a problem for me at all had you either have read or even so much looked at the rest of the post you quoted, which goes as follows............................

Because IMO, with the large turnover of players over the course of the last two seasons, I believe that's all anyone can really expect of this squad.
Actually I explained that I believe that's all anyone could reasonbly expect.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

There's not much I can actually say to what you said Pitt I agree, we really don't know how the pieces will fit or if they'll be any good. But we are beginning to fill in the blank spaces on paper and thats where it all starts....
Who knows, but a quick start would do a world of good for us the fans and the team, from there who knows???

I agree with you about a quick start, especially with such a young team. Sometimes the mojo and momentum really helps a young team.
With the first two weeks being the Bucs and Chiefs, IMO this should be the easiest part of our schedule. Bringing up the "young team" theme again, by losing these two to such supposidly our easiest competition, it could be the beginning of a long season.

I may be optimistic but we have a really easy schedule. Really Easy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We could easily, accidentally go 6-2 the first half of the season.
Really?
At Bucs: OK, Should be winnable
Chiefs at home. Should be winnable.
At Ravens. Tough game.
Bengals at Home. Tough game.
Falcons at home. Tough game.
At Steelers. Tough game.
At Saints. Defending Super Bowl Champs at their house.
Patriots at home.
Forgive me if i don't see a ridiculously easy schedule here. What games do you see as "tough" ... and which as "rieally easy"?
I should add that our opponents had a 2009 rerord of 132 - 124, which is tenth hardest in the NFL for 2010.
I just want to add that every team you just listed is counting the game against the Browns as a "EASY WIN".
When teams lose to the Browns it sends some of them into a death spiral.
Take Jacksonville last year....
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/04/29/loss-to-browns-shaped-jaguars-offseason/
Loss to Browns shaped Jaguars offseason Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on April 29, 2010 1:16 PM ET Don't tell Jaguars G.M. Gene Smith that a Week 17 game between two teams with virtually no playoff hope is meaningless.
"The Cleveland game was a defining game for us," Smith told Vic Ketchman of the Jaguars' website. "If the fans need an indication of why some of the changes were made, they need to go back and evaluate what happened in the Browns game. To me that was a defining game."
On that day, the Jaguars were pushed around up front by the Browns. They lost 23-17. The Browns only needed to throw the ball 11 times; they had 49 rushing attempts.
Two starters from the defensive line that day, Quentin Groves and John Henderson, are gone. Jacksonville drafted four defensive linemen to replace them, including first-round pick Tyson Alualu.
That day changed the Jaguars' offseason strategy, and it may have kept Eric Mangini employed in Cleveland. It's another reminder that every game in the NFL matters. ______________________________________________________
I can't wait for us to be considered a favorite week in and week out. But don't fool yourself. There is no one out there that is giving us any respect for good reason. Even the NFL has us at 1:00pm Sunday for every single game this year!

I don't care if they dumped John Henderson because he was one of the people that got "pushed around" by the Browns. I haven't been able to stop watching his pre-game routine on youtube... and no, I really don't have another reason why I want him here...
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

I've unfortunately hijacked the FA thread, so I'll move that discussion here.
I've been thinking about what, specifically, I expect to be improved with the team going into the season. This is what I came up with.
IMO, the biggest problems the Browns had last year, on both sides of the ball, were 3rd down conversion % and turnovers. I thought those areas got better down the stretch, but this year I expect a major improvement in those areas.
The QB and DB positions were major holes in last year's team. The QBs were terrible. Could not convert 3rd down at any acceptable rate. There were some drops, to be sure, and we had 2 rookies in the WR corps, but I believe the largest contributor to the problem was the QB position.
In comes JD and SW. IMO these guys should represent a significant upgrade to the position. Holmgren is on record saying he believes JD's struggles last year were not due to age or declining skill. I think Mangini might be a little more leery of all those INTs. I think SW has a good chance to play. In either case, these guys had better be able to deliver the ball much more effectively on 3rd down.
In addition to the new QBs being better players, they are coming into a better situation. There will not be the uncertainties and confusion associated with an evaluation/teardown year. The rest of the offensive skill players, for the most part, have had a year of continuity in the playbook, and Mangini isn't spending any time on anything besides coaching the team. Addition by Subtraction has occured with the replacement of St. Clair and Lewis as starters.
I expect 3rd down conversions, TOP and turnovers to be stats greatly improved right off the bat going into the season.
On to the D.
I can't count how many times the Browns put their opponents into a 3rd down situation, and was not surprised at all to see them convert. I believe this is directly attributable to two guys. Poteat and McDonald. It was not a good thing at all to be relying on these players to save the day on 3rd down. Elam gets picked on here a bit, but I don't think he was part of the problem nearly to the degree that starting a WR as the other safety and depending on those two. The defense could not get off the field, and often failed to make just that one last play we needed.
This offseason the braintrust has gone after that backfield with a vengance, bringing in a very good veteran corner in Brown, and drafting DB with the first two picks. There is not much uncertainty as far as what Brown is going to bring, he is an instant upgrade. Haden might not start right away, but Ward almost certainly will. He's only got to beat out Adams, Sorenson, and Ventrone.
I actually don't expect a huge, dramatic improvement right away, although they will be better. As the season goes on and the new players earn their way on the field and learn the system, we should see a much improved defense the last 3rd of our games.
The trickle down effect is going to be huge. Brown and Haden remove the liability which is McDonald from the field until we are in a Dime situation. This puts the Defense as a whole in a much better position to use more bodies in blitz packages, resulting in more sacks, turnovers and a much, much better 3rd down conversion rate. Ward almost cannot help but be an improvement at FS than what was there last year, and these are the guys we are going to be depending on come 3rd down.
Again, they are mostly rookies, and will experience some growing pains, we will see some breakdowns. But as the season progresses, and these guys grow and learn, I fully expect Ryan to start feeling comfortable enough to run his aggressive packages and leave these guys out on islands.
So, my expectations are specifically revolving around 3rd down and turnovers, on both sides of the ball. I expect the offense to improve immediately, the defense moreso down the line a bit.
JMHO
I agree with much of the spirit of this post in that we had trouble on third down conversions, but first and second were not much better. . stupid trades and poor drafting left this team in terrible shape at RG,RT, TE. RB. WR.( we have upgraded RT,RB,TE,RG) we still DESPERATELY need a wr upgrade. . another poor rookie OC( we now have Holmgren in the booth looking over dumb and dumber) . We ran out of town Both QBs and kept a third that was even more terrible( a Manigin Man) getting Jake the Mistake and Seneca hardly seems like any upgrade when Quinn will do well in Denver. Colt McCoy may be pressed into duty by Mangini as it was his menstruation that pushed out Quinn. Should Jake perform as horribly as his last 12 outings Gini is Toast. .We were awfully thin at DB, Mac is picked on a lot but we had the WORST safety coverage in the league, they were even worse than our WR corp.( two new CB, and 2 safeties will upgrade ths unit a LOT). B mac can be a dime corner, I still think the kid has good talent and am not willing to join the public hanging of this player.)
. The biggest improvement is the inept offensive Coaching, dubious trades, and playing of favorites is OVER. > better running> Better oline>better coaching>better secondary>better running>better TE still stall in the reality is the bengals, ravens and steelers are still Better than us talent wise. We are NOT improved at QB and have BY FAR the Worst set of QBs and WRS in the division and another 5 win season gets us a Better coach in 2011.

AKron Joe Just read this guys article.. having trouble cutting and pasting it but if you follow the link it says pretty much what I'm thinking about Mangini and the Browns situation from the time he became coach. I've bounced around a little on my thinking on Mangini over the last year.. Highs and lows (shoot me, I'm human and I'm emotional about the Browns..) http://www.cleveland.com/sportsnetwork/index.ssf/2010/05/browns_coaching_staff_returns.htmlI think what you will see is that not everyone feels as you do and for the very reasons this article points out. I'm more and more getting the feeling that some of these blog guys are getting it right moreso than the reporters at the PD and ABJ....
