Agree.

I've heard a few other people mention that the Big Ten will slowly try getting the schools it wants. And may wait another year or two to fill up to 16. I don't see why they would bother waiting. With the Pac-10 about to announce 6 teams from the Big 12....doesn't that mean the "industry standard" will be 16 teams? If so, build to 16 NOW. Not later. The longer you wait, the longer each conference will need to wait to get the schedule and network money moving.

This should be an old fashioned smash and grab...quick and dirty.

A close ND fan said he'd rather join the mountain west than the Big Ten....just because he wants to stick it to us. I wonder how far up that attitiude goes.

These conferences will only go as fast as the other conferences will go. It's like chess without the having to wait for the other guy to go.

They're on the phone with their prospective schools, while the others are doing the same.

You want to wait as diligently you can to see what they may do and then you return fire.

I'm sure they're on the phone with who they want to invite next. Along with seeing what other people are doing.

They're probably on the phone right now talking to Texas to see if they really want to move anywhere.

Probably talking with aTm right now seeing if they're going to jump to the SEC as well.

Texas Hold 'Em: Longhorns, A&M To Big Ten
Oklahoma Looking To Move To SEC, Needs 1 Other School

POSTED: 2:10 pm CDT June 10, 2010
UPDATED: 3:12 pm CDT June 10, 2010

facebookdel.icio.usbuzzdiggreddit›› Email›› Print
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- High level sources in multiple conferences have told KCTV5 that Texas and Texas A&M are looking to move to the Big Ten Conference and have petitioned for membership, while the University of Oklahoma is planning on petitioning the Southeastern Conference to become a member of its conference.

KCTV5's sources said that Texas and Texas A&M do not have to include Texas Tech or Baylor in their plans. Sources told KCTV5 that there have already been discussions about the two schools entering the Big Ten and that the agreement could be made as soon as Thursday.

Oklahoma is currently working on petitioning to enter the SEC, but must find another university to enter the league with them, sources said. TMZ Sports has reported that Oklahoma State is likely to accept a bid to move to the Pac-10. Earlier Thursday, Colorado accepted an invitation to join the Pac-10.

KCTV5's sources also said that some Big 12 officials are saying decisions on which deals Big 12 schools take invitations by the end of the day Thursday, although the deals may not be officially announced. Big 12 officials also tell KCTV5's sources that some Big 12 office employees are planning to be without a job within weeks.

Those decisions would leave the University of Kansas, Kansas State University and the University of Missouri with Baylor, Texas Tech and Iowa State in the Big 12. The Missouri Board of Curators met Thursday and planned to meet Friday to discuss the future of Missouri sports.

At this point I'd be tempted to tell those clowns to take a hike. We've been trying for 10 years to get those assholes to join. I hope they do join the mountain west and sink to a whole new low. Serve them right

Yeah I didnt honestly think the Big 10 had any chance to secure Texas. I wonder what Mark May and Skip Bayless would have to say about the Big Ten and OSU now if its true.

The only reason Nebraska wanted out of the Big 12 in the first place was because Texas puts a stranglehold on the conference. No other team from the North will man up and say anything about it - but Texas basically destroyed the division from the inside out. It will happen with the Big 10 to, if that's where Texas decides to go, but maybe not. Maybe the Big 10 won't put up with Texas' crap like the Big 12 has for years.

Texas is the school that has sped up this whole process with the PAC-10 deal, before this came out the big 12 was months before possible decision, now they are two days from it.

Texas instead of even trying to fix the Big 12 is creating propaganda to force blame on Nebraska. I don't have links but schools like Kansas, K-state have even come out and said this. Texas is just trying to make it out like they did not have a major role in destroying another conference.

Yea Texas wanted to have the championship game every year in dallas, league headquarters moved to dallas from kc, and they voted to get rid of partial qualifiers, something nebraska was in favor of for years.

the reason the bigXII broke up was the financial discrepency between Texas and the rest of the conference. TX kept all the $$$ for themselves because, well, they had the market.

won't happen in the Big10, so I'm not worried.

wow.

Right now:

Big10 West:

Texas
A&M
Nebraska
Iowa
Wisconsin
Minnesota
Illinois

Big10 East:

Ohio State
Michigan
Penn State
Michigan State
Purdue
Northwestern
Indiana

Illinois and NW likely ending up in the same division depending on what final 2 schools join (if ND and Rutgers, both in the West)

Chip Brown said he hasn't heard any of this talk so far. He's been probably the most reliable source about expansion. We'll find out soon enough.

I'll back you up on that, he's been out front on nearly everything before it's happened.

We'll see, but it's very possible the folks in KC have different sources and ones that are mad about it (KU and Mizzou folks who are flabbergasted about the move)

The Big Ten is under rated every year because we dont play flashy offensive system and great Defense. No matter what though, adding texas only helps the competition level which I am all in favor of.

Well when you think of it traditionally Texas and OSU are 2 superpowers in the country and Michigan will be back it's only a matter of time. I think Floridas little run is just about over. Oklahoma and Alabama are the only real consistently dominant teams. Auburn and LSU show up once in awhile like PSU and Wisconsin do for us.

Also, let’s note:

Michigan (#1 overall wins NCAA FB history)
ND (#2)
Texas (#3)
Nebraska (#4)
Ohio State (#5)
Penn State (#9)

Are you kidding me?

Kansas is 977 miles from Florida

Oklahoma is 958 miles from Florida.

If we're gonna let Oklahoma in, why not Kansas?

Oh, we're talking about historically?

Then sure, it is hands down.

But right now, it's debatable.

Yea if you guys were able to get Ou, then it would be pretty close. The Pac 10 and Acc would be left with nothing, since I don't see how they would be able to compete with the big 10 and sec.

If true, and like others have said, why wait for ND then? Go grab two teams from the Big East and nab their markets. Done.

The future of college
Four 16-team super conferences
Each conference gets a title game
Title game winners play in 4-team playoff
Goodbye NCAA

Wow!

I read somewhere that the super conferences would still have to be ran by the NCAA or the governement would starting taxing colleges heavily.

Damn you asked for this. Florida can kiss my hairy white bottom for all I care. I've said this numerous times I don't care that OSU lost. Hell I'm more upset about the Texas game than that game. Before Tebow and Meyer they were completely irrelevant in the SEC let alone in college football. The football team will end up just like the basketball team completely irrelevant in the grand picture again. Alabama is back for real and I doubt they’ll be going anywhere anytime soon. Look I understand why you act like a bitter old man. You probably think the south will still rise again or something. Keep trying to take cheap shots on me though because that’s all you’ll have in a few years when your boy Tebow turns into a bust and Florida never sniffs a BCS championship game again.

I regularly attend OSU, MAC schools, and UCLA basketball games (when I travel out to Cali during the winter) so I'm not interested. Plus I'm going to start coaching soon so I probably won't even be able to catch Browns games. I've read your posts peen. I'm not gonna lie you're a lot more intelligent and wiser then me. I believe that has partially to due with age difference and you're more experienced. I see you as more of a internet grandfather. However when it comes to OSU I don't think you're trying to be funny but instead I think you're just trying to ... me off every chance you get. I could be horribly wrong and my apologies if I am. However any time I say something bad about Florida you would say it's because I'm an OSU fan. Then result to bashing OSU time and time again. I don't hate Florida as much as I hate there fans. Which is the same case for OSU. I prayed that Urban Meyer was alright because he's a pretty stand up blue-collar guy that I can respect. There's a difference between what guys like you and guys like Topdawg say. I know Top says stuff to bust my chops all the time. We never try to make things too personal between each other. Oklahoma ruled out the SEC today. Basically putting it in the hands of Texas, they'll go wherever Texas goes. That rivalry is just too entrenched to let it slip away apparently.
