I don't know if anyone is watching today's Yankees-Tribe game, but David Huff took a line drive shot to the side of the head from A-Rod. Keep your fingers crossed that he is ok.

53 years and 3 weeks ago another promising young lefty for the Indians (Herb Score) was struck by a line drive off the bat of another Yankee third baseman (Gil McDougal). If it was to the very day, it would be downright creepy, but this is a pretty remarkable coincidence.

The good news is Huff was released from the hospital following a negative CAT scan, according to Tom Hamilton on the Indians' broadcast.

That's good that he was released. I didn't hear Manning/Underwood mention anything, but I also had the game muted for good portions. All I could think of when it happened was that base coach a couple years ago in the minors who was killed when he got struck by a liner, and Huff was 30 feet closer to the plate than that guy was. I thought A-Rod was gonna be sick when it happened, too...ran to second then threw his helmet off and ran over to the pitcher's mound. I'm definitely not a Yankees fan but 50k in the Bronx giving him a standing ovation has he gave a thumbs up while being carted off the field was definitely classy.

And hey, putting up a 7-run 7th inning to rally to the win was a plus, too!

The guy is tough as nails to take a shot off the head from A-roids bat and still be able to give the thumbs up as he's carted off.

This team sucks.

And I can't believe the people who still think Indians fans are supposed to pack the ballpark to watch this group of minor leaguers. I can watch the same caliber of baseball down the street with the Captains for far less money.

There's a saying out there that I fully believe as long as the Dolans own this team: Tribe Time Never.

AAA is Columbus
AA is Akron
High A is Kinston (in NC)
Low A is Lake County
Mahoning Valley & Burlington are rookie leagues

Trust me, as a Reds fan and a guy who hopes the Tribe does well (can't really consider myself a fan of them though) I feel your pain.

In the 90s I used to go down for 5 to 10 games per year. Since they've started sucking horribly on a consistent basis I've been once or twice a year.

I'm cautiously thinking about attending a few more games than one or two this year, but I'm afraid the June swoon is right around the corner at the same time.

Edit, I just wanted to add this and forgot:I work outside, so to me there's nothing worse than working outside all day in the hot sun only to go to an evening ball game in the heat and humidity only to watch your team suck.

The indians were suppose to suck this year. no surprise there. But if these young guys that we traded for in the lee and sabathia deals don't start to develop by next year, I will call for shipiro's job. Besides talbot, none of the young players has shown anything. Not masterson, laporta, huff, carasco, etc.

this thread was about an Indians pitcher who took a pitch to the head.

this comment was not warranted.

That's the problem - the Indians are built to compete ONLY in "Next Year". It never gets to be This Year.

Here's what I'm thinking the Indians will look like a 2-4 years from now:

SP: Carmona, Hagadone, Knapp, Rondon/Talbot/Carrasco
RP: Masterson, Sipp Rondon/Talbot/Carrasco
C: Alex White

TJ White, Kelvin De La Cruz, Alexander Perez and Zach Putnam all have potential to be good pitchers in the majors as well. Even if half of these guys pan out, the Tribe look to have a very promising pitching staff for the future.

C: Santana
1B: LaPorta
2B: Valbuena/Kipnis
SS: Cabrera
3B: Chisenhall
LF: Brantley/Abreu
CF: Abreu/Brantley/Sizemore
RF: Choo
DH: Weglarz

The Indians are struggling now, but they've got a lot of potential for the future. And that potential will grow even more if they trade Peralta and/or Sizemore and get some prospects in return. Plus, they hold the #5 pick in this year's draft where they'll likely go for a pitcher.

And that's the problem isn't it? Unless about 6 or 7 of those "potential" players mature and come of age at the same time and begin producing like expected.. it will all be for nothing. If just 2 or 3 of them get good, then they will have no help and once they hit their stride, the Tribe will still be under .500 and they will be used as trade bait to build for the next future in 2016....

That's the whole small-market "problem" in baseball. (I don't really care anymore -- (1) there's years when a small team "makes it," and, (2) there's no fixing it to everyone's satisfaction.) Not disagreeing with you, just saying, your point serves to illuminate the nature of "talent window longevity." If you don't get it done quickly, the good ones will fetter off to other teams.

Ammo's not a Yankees fan.

Edit to add: I'm glad Huff is doing well. The road trip is brutal. The Indians are better than having no baseball at all to me.

Back on topic: Huff is going to make his next start. The guy is a warrior. Even if he is perfectly fine physically, you would think he would need a little bit of time mentally to regain his focus.

A couple days old, but I just noticed it now.

NEW YORK -- David Huff was back on the mound Monday morning, less than 48 hours after an Alex Rodriguez line drive struck the left-hander in the head and sent him to the hospital.
Huff threw a bullpen session before the series finale at Yankee Stadium. Manager Manny Acta called it the "first step" in determining whether Huff will make his next scheduled start, Thursday at Detroit's Comerica Park, and all indications are that Huff will get the ball that day.

"He had no aftermath feeling or anything like that," Acta said. "He's on target, unless he shows up [feeling] something different."

Huff said he couldn't feel better. He has had no dizziness or headaches in the wake of the blow to the head, and he hopes to make Thursday's start.

"I threw the bullpen I usually throw," he said. "I didn't take time off or throw less pitches. It was a good feeling."

The Indians will continue to evaluate Huff's medical condition to ensure he is not showing any concussive symptoms. Head athletic trainer Lonnie Soloff said the Tribe will "err on the side of caution" in the determination. But Huff never lost consciousness, has shown no signs of memory loss and did not suffer any brain damage or bleeding as a result of the ball striking his head, just above the left ear.

Huff (2-6, 5.54 ERA) said he is not concerned about feeling fearful of another line drive the next time he takes the mound in a game situation.

"I'm fine, I feel fine and hopefully I'll bounce back," he said. "I'm going to try not to think about it."

I just saw an article on the PD website titled: "Shapiro disappointed, but not ready to clean house".

Clean House??? Of who??? There's nobody left! Sizemore is on the DL. Who else is really trade bait?

Westbrook
Kearns
Wood (I know, I know, but teams get desperate for bullpen)
Grudz
Branyan

And, before you scoff...Shapiro did flip Casey Blake for Carlos Santana. And has used middling vets to get Choo (was it Broussard?), etc.

All I know is that we are 19-31 ... the 3rd worst record in MLB ..... our team .. supposedly build to hit is hitting .246 ... we have 33 HR in 50 games .....

In short .... this is the gang that couldn't shoot straight.

But at least we don;t have to cut payroll this year!

Tribe has a perfect game going against them through 6...

I didn't think this would happen to Strasburg's start against us.

Edit: Now through 7 innings...
