So after all that, this is what we are left with...

That is pretty much what everybody is saying.. 10 minutes of speculation then a quick "but nobody knows for sure"... it's getting comical.

I can't wait till this is over.

LeBron is an attention whore.

I hope LeBron, Bosh, Wade all go to Miami, and Kobe still sticks it to them in the Finals.

Heard an funny comparison on Michael Kay last night. He said if LeBron leaves, he will be slightly less hated than Modell.

LeBron knows that he is the first domino and the minute he makes an announcement, phones in half the NBA cities will start ringing as other players and teams try to adjust accordingly.

Bit of a suprise to me, I would think NY, NJ, LAC might feel compelled to near max him out after losing out on the big name FAs.

I don't know if he is an attention whore, or just a kid having a helluva lot of fun with the situation.
I mean, the kid is what... 25, 26? And he has the world falling at his feet wondering what he's gonna do.... that's gotta be pretty damned fun.

i think he'd be a good fit for us, especially if we had landed bosh. not much offensive game, but a really good defensive 5 (could deal with dwight) and is a good rebounder.

you could put up with his lack of an offensive game if you had a guy like bosh.

I agree on Chandler, but he would easily command $10mil+/year on the open market, so he was never really an option for us.

This obviously means that the Bucks are going to get LeBron. I mean, he'd get to finally play with Michael Redd and they have a young PG in Jennings too. It's a done deal

you are correct. it's the reason things like the Elton Brand/Turkoglu flip-flops can happen.

they cannot sign offer sheets. they can agree in principle which is what Turk did last year.

the thing is it is not legally binding, so the players can change their minds (and technically teams though that would have more dire consequences for future free agents)

Maybe I'm in the minority. However could anyone care less if we have to take on turkeyglues contract in order to land Bosh? You need to take risks in order to win championships. Just look at the big 3 in Boston. They could have never been to the finals and still be in the cap hell they're in right now.

according to his agent, which is usually code for the Cavs chose someone else.

i think they wanted to negotiate contracts with both, and Shaw/Scott weren't willing to play that game. they made them choose, and we chose Scott. that's just me reading the tea leaves and misinformation though.

Either way you end up with a former Laker as a coach. You blasted me as a Laker fan but in the end your team will be ran by a former Laker!

if you're reading windy, he's throwing around a few possible names that the cavs are targeting, but says the big names(bosh, amare) won't get serious until they resign lebron.

there are some intriguing names, and apparently shaq is open to a sign and trade, given the right situation.

I'd absolutely take Turkoglu if it meant Bosh and were up to me. He does have a bad contract but it isn't like the guy is useless. He's a solid player and would do wonders for us coming off the bench or creating mismatches with his height.

Sources: Scott to coach Cavaliers

Byron Scott will be named the Cleveland Cavaliers coach on Thursday, according to a source close to the situation.

The Cavaliers and Scott are finishing the details of a contract that could make him LeBron James' next head coach.

Cleveland settled on Scott after strongly considering Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Brian Shaw, who impressed the Cavaliers during interviews earlier this week.

This would be the third head coaching job for the 49-year-old Scott, who led the New Jersey Nets to consecutive NBA Finals appearances in 2002 and 2003.

Scott, who coached the Nets from 2001-2004, won the league's Coach of the Year Award in 2008 after leading the New Orleans Hornets to a surprising 56-win season. He coached the Hornets from 2004-2010 and has a 352-355 career record.

Of course, Scott does not know what kind of team he could be leading. If James re-signs with the Cavaliers, he could have an Eastern Conference contender on his hands. If James goes elsewhere, Cleveland will be in a rebuilding effort similar to the ones he took over in New Jersey and New Orleans.

It is the experiences Scott had in rebuilding those franchises that led him to maintain interest in the Cavaliers' job without assurances that James would return.

In terms of re-signing James, the hiring of Scott would work in Cleveland's favor. James reportedly wants to play for a former player, and Scott was that and then some.

Scott played 14 years in the NBA, winning three championships in his 11 seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers. Scott teamed with some of the greatest players of all-time, including Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and, in his final season, Kobe Bryant.

Scott has maintained a great relationship with Bryant, which is emblematic of another reason he won over the Cavs: his ability to build strong relationships with superstars. In New Jersey, Scott had a good relationship with Jason Kidd, though Kidd soured on Scott's coaching toward the end of his tenure with the team. And in New Orleans, Scott was close with Chris Paul, one of James' best friends.

Once the deal is finished, it will close a dramatic search to replace Mike Brown, who was fired in May after five seasons in Cleveland.

The Cavaliers initially offered the job to Michigan State coach Tom Izzo. Cleveland owner Dan Gilbert was willing to pay Izzo nearly $6 million a year, but after a long and ballyhooed period of consideration, the NCAA coaching legend decided against accepting without knowing whether James would return.

Scott and Shaw were neck-and-neck for the job Tuesday night and several reports had Shaw as the frontrunner. Shaw's agent, Jerome Stanley, told The Associated Press via email late Tuesday night his client was Cleveland's favored choice, and there were reports that Shaw was assembling a staff to help him in his first head coaching gig.

Scott's agent, Brian McInerney, even sent out an e-mail congratulating Shaw on getting Cleveland's job.

"Coach Scott welcomes Coach Shaw into the ranks of head coaching, and as a Laker family brother, wishes him the best, until the final two minutes of any game where they are competing against each other," the e-mail read.

The Cavs, however, never offered Shaw the position. Instead, Cavaliers sources said they decided on Scott late Tuesday night and began negotiating with him Wednesday morning. Stanley then called the club Wednesday afternoon, telling them his client was pulling himself out of the running.

According to Stanley, Shaw notified Cleveland brass on Wednesday afternoon he was withdrawing his name from consideration, citing "timing issues."

Shaw's withdrawal opens the door to speculation he may want to remain available should Lakers coach Phil Jackson retire. Jackson informed Lakers spokesman John Black via e-mail late Tuesday night that he intended to stick to his plan to inform the team of his decision to return to the team by Friday.

LBJ likes him, vice versa...

This free agency will fizzle out to nearly nothing in the next few days excepting a few cases.

Money and guaranteed contracts will win the day!

J/C...

Thinking last night as the clock struck midnight - did anyone else wonder if people all around ESPN and the NBA were like "Farmer Fran" at the end of Waterboy? lol. Anyone that's seen the movie knows what scene I'm referring to. As the clock came to midnight - at least on ESPN Radio, they were almost orgasmic in their glee...I'm sure it was the same on TV.

I watch two shows on ESPN anymore - PTI and SportsNation purely to see the hotness of Michelle Beadle - because the older I get the more tired I get of their endless driving of topics. The LeBron saga has pushed me over the edge with SportsCenter - clearly they make crap up everyday and when it's proven wrong the next day they forget they made it up and make up new stuff, lol. If it weren't so overbearing, it would be comical.

you could almost run lbj at the point and put turk at the 3 if you wanted to.

i'm not overly huge on him, but the guy can handle the ball, can create a little bit. good shooter.

I am happy with Byron Scott has the head coach, though I will say the idea of Shaw and the Triangle offese appealed to me. Yet to be seen if it was worth firing Mike Brown over.

Just additional confirmation from Tom Withers. (who must have been excited, given all of the typos)

Byron Scott accepts Cavs' job, AP reports

Tom Withers, AP Sports Writer

CLEVELAND — Byron Scott has accepted Cleveland's coaching job, his agent told The Associated Press.

Brian McInerney said in an e-mail that the sides are working through somefinal details, but that Scott has agreed to become Cleveland's nextcoach — with or without free agent LeBron James. The team is expectedto announce Scott's hiring later on Thursday, just as James hits themarket and begins hearing offers from other teams.

Scott previously coached in New Jersey and New Orleans. The 49-year-old wonthree NBA titles as a player and took the Nets to two finals as a coach.

The Cavs have been looking for a coach since Mike Brown was fired on May 24, ending a five-year run with the club.

i was thinking about this on my drive to work.

chris bosh said at some point in the last 2 weeks, that he wants to be "the guy"

i don't really believe that 100%, but if he goes to chicago, he'd be the third guy. does he want that?

also, glad that the cavs finally were able to lock down a coach. i was leaning toward shaw, but scott is a good sign.

don't really know what happened with shaw. i have a few ideas, but i don't think we'll ever know.

With Shaw, I bet he had some hesitation based on Phil Jackon/Lakers and LBJ.

What style of offense does Scott run?

I don't buy this either, as this quote has been attributed to a video made before last season, and then extrapolated to now. I would read much more into what he said on Mike and Mike and more recently. And he said he is waiting on Lebron.

I think this statement by him is more reaffirming his confidence in himself. I don't know much about him, but I don't see him as a Larry Hughes type, someone who is upset not being the focal point.

By playing with Lebron, DWade, or Rose, he will make the team better, but he will also get better opportunities. Its win-win, at least from where I'm sitting.

it's pretty fast paced. although he's always had a pretty awesome pg. kidd, cp3, etc..

although having lbj wouldn't be any different, it would all depend on what else would happen with our roster.

Scott was my first choice (above Izzo, Shaw...and the others who were hired, Tom Thib. Avery, etc.)

I am very happy with this hire.

I wanted Shaw because he biggest strength was supposed to be his motivational skills and this team seriously lacked motivation this postseason, but I'm pretty happy with Scott.
