Shaw is well respected and liked by the Lakers org/players. Would have been a solid hire. I liked both canidates better than Izzo. I didn't want him at all, thom b from Boston. Out of what was out there, I think Shaw and Scott were the best available.

FIRST BIG FA SIGNING!!!!!! When well teams learn? Drew Gooden can't even read. Quote:

I will never forget when we had Gooden ... whenever he drove home a thundering dunk (which he tried to do constantly, whether it was there or not), I would always tell people 'watch now, we're going to get burned on the fast break', as Gooden would always - without fail - trot backwards down the court, his eyes locked on the scoreboard above, watching the replay.
Every time.

Dude. That is tragic. I thought they were a good young, up-and-coming team but 32 million over 5 years to DREW GOODEN is a terrrrrible (Chuck accent) use of money. If I were a Bucks fan I'd be throwing things at whatever outlet broke that awful news to me.

And that is going to mean they lose Bogut too because he is literally going to kill Gooden on the court halfway through the year.

Awesome video. The more than a player with HOME slogan is hanging on a banner outside of where Lebron is meeting teams. I have a feeling Lebron is just yanking all these other teams around. I think he's dropped enough hints that he's going to stay.

and my thing has been, i don't think he'd drag us along like this. only to stab us in the end.
my feeling is, if james was set on leaving, he would have notified the organization not long after the boston series that he was going to leave and go elsewhere. the fact that we're still in it, makes me think it's gonna be us.
had he notified the team and fans, it would have sucked right away, but over time i think we would have respected it. if he bolts now, i think he's looked at as a complete jerk in his own hometown.

It's official: http://www.cleveland.com/ohio-sports-blog/index.ssf/2010/07/cavaliers_byron_scott_agree_to.htmlCleveland Cavaliers, Byron Scott agree to four-year contract Published: Thursday, July 01, 2010, 9:04 AM Updated: Thursday, July 01, 2010, 12:23 PM Updated at 12:20 p.m. CLEVELAND, Ohio -- When Byron Scott went to bed Tuesday night he was convinced he was not going to be the Cavaliers head coach. About 24 hours later he was agreeing to take the job. It will become official today. After an overnight negotiating session, sources said, Scott reached an agreement in principle on a four-year contract to take over the Cavs on the same day that LeBron James became a free agent. The deal is expected to be finalized and announced by the Cavs today. Scott took the job while on a trip with family to Arkansas and limited cell phone range actually slowed down the process late Wednesday. The Cavs were in contact with Scott throughout the coaching search but waiting until his work with ESPN in the NBA Finals was finished before formally interviewing him. He met with the Cavs in person on Father's Day at Cavs owner Dan Gilbert's Detroit-area home. The team continued to talk to candidates, including a two-day interview process with Lakers assistant Brian Shaw. That period combined with the uncertainty over the future of Lakers coach Phil Jackson -- a job that Scott was known to covet -- convinced Scott he was not going to get the Cavs job and he backed away. Even to the point where Scott had spoken to Cavs officials and wished them well. But the Cavs never offered the job to anyone even though Shaw's agent told media outlets Shaw was about to become the coach. After completing meetings Wednesday morning, the Cavs offered the job to Scott. About 12 hours later, they had their next coach. LeBron James did not play an active role in the process and likely did not talk directly with Scott. However, Scott's background as a former player who also has 10 years of head coaching experience, was known to appeal to James. Scott has a strong relationship with Hornets guard Chris Paul, who is one of James' closest friends. Scott has a combined coaching record of 352-355 and 33-24 in the postseason with the Nets and Hornets. He won three NBA titles as a player with the Lakers and twice made the Finals with the Nets as coach.

LMAO desperation? David Falk suggests the Knicks consider trading Eddy Curry for Gilbert Arenas as LeBron James bait: http://sportsradiointerviews.com/2010/07/01/lebron-watch-2010-is-underway/

i think i would too.
if cp3 were part of this class, would he be considered above bosh? cause the hierarchy of this class, in my mind and probably most others is lbj, then wade, then bosh.
i may stick cp3 above bosh, but big men who put up #'s like bosh does don't come around often. tough choice, but as cavs fans we'd be set with either.

I think it would depend on the team.
Knicks with D'Antoni....CP3 > Bosh Cavs with Byron/LeBron....CP3 > Bosh Bulls w/ Rose....Bosh > CP3 Heat w/ Wade...Bosh > CP3
general consensus might be a tossup (or Bosh because of Pauls recent injury issues)

You gotta also factor in that this has become a PG dominated league now. It would be nice to have the best of them all.

Here's a scary scenario: Chad Ford reported that the Rockets are selling Chris Bosh on 60 wins if they get him in a sign-and-trade. It would probably be something like Aaron Brooks, Jordan Hill, a 1st rounder, plus expiring contracts for Bosh. I understand that Yao has health problems however when he's healthy I think he's the best center in the NBA. Could you imagine Yao and Bosh inside? That would put the lakers size inside to shame.

CP3 ten times better than Bosh because:
1. CP3 handles the ball more and PGs have a greater impact on the game in general. 2. CP3 plays better defense than Bosh, particularly since PG defense and C defense are our biggest concerns right now (Rondo, anyone?). 3. We can get by with the PF we have, Jamison, Hickson, Varejao.

To play devils advocate. CP3 would take the ball away from LeBron. Which as result would take a lot of his playmaking ability away from him. LeBron would have to play off of CP3.

I don't really see a fault in that as the LeBron on the top of the key, dribble for 10 seconds and shoot a 3/or drive the lane, offense has proven to not be able to win a championship.
LeBron moving without the ball would be fun to watch for a change.

+1
When he's in Beast-mode, it's unstoppable. When he's in normal-mode, the Cavs lose unless someone takes over. We don't really have a guy that can take over regularly.
I'm hoping the Bosh and CP3 sign-and-trade talk starts heating up....cause without that, the Cavs have almost no chance to keeping Lebron. Heck, I'd probably leave too.

To have a real PG that can create on his own to pair with a player as unselfish as willing to rack up Assists as LeBron... that'd be might nice to have. Mo, nor Delonte, are that kinda guy.
Having a situation where we don't NEED LeBron to have the ball all the time would be really kinda nice.

Wont see this on BSPN Quote:
How LeBron can ruin his career: Arrange a superteam in Miami Story Highlights A LeBron-Chris Bosh-Dwyane Wade troika would be bad for the league Michael Jordan was heralded for turning bad Bulls into six-time champions If James goes to Miami, he risks always being A-Rod to Wade's Jeter
Finally, LeBron James' moment is here. Forty-three years ago, we had the Summer of Love; now we have the Summer of Self-Love. James has had his eyes on this summer for the last two winters. It is, as he wants it, primarily about him. And with that comes this free-agency period's irony:
If LeBron James' ego is really that big, he will (unintentionally) do what is best for the league.
There has been talk, for several weeks, about a King-DWade-CB4 troika in Miami. (That's LeBron James-Dwyane Wade-Chris Bosh to their mothers.) They can do this. They have a right to do it. Miami has the salary-cap space --assuming Wade re-signs -- to get LeBron and Bosh if one agrees to accept less or work out a complicated sign-and-trade. The trio could create the greatest team of all time -- probably not next year, but three years from now, after Miami uses its draft picks and various cap exceptions to fill in the rest of the picture.
They could dominate the league. And that would be awful. It would be like choosing sides on the playground and giving one team the first three picks. It would be like giving your cousin every pick in the first round of your fantasy league.
This is not how sports are supposed to work, and it is really not how the NBA is supposed to work. The league is set up so its best players play against each other, not with each other, every spring.
Arranging a superteam would be the easiest path to a championship for LeBron, but it would not be the best path. In fact, it would backfire on him.
Here are LeBron's stated goals, as far as I can tell:
1. Win championships.
2. Become the best player ever
3. Become a billionaire.
4. Purchase a small country, so he has somewhere to go on vacation after he purchases a large country.
5. Become a "global icon," because come on, how awesome would that look on a business card?
LEBRON JAMES Global Icon Don't call him; he won't call you, either
James could achieve No. 1 (win championships) on a superteam. But he could not achieve No. 2: becoming the best player ever. Michael Jordan's legacy is not that he won six championships in Chicago. Heck, Robert Horry won more titles than Jordan. No, what made Jordan so admired is that when the Bulls drafted him, they were a dead franchise. If they had sent a limo to pick him up at the draft, it would have been a hearse. Jordan, through the sheer force of his talent and will, made the Bulls the most successful organization in sports. We saw him score 63 points against the Celtics in the playoffs and lose. We saw him get knocked down, literally and figuratively, by the Pistons. And we saw how much it meant to him when he finally won, in 1991 -- and how, from then on, he seemed unbeatable.
(Jordan eventually came out of retirement to play for the Wizards, of course, but that's not relevant to the discussion. By then, the public had already accepted -- rightly or wrongly -- that Bulls management had forced Jordan into an early retirement.)
And this is why James cannot achieve that whole global icon thing on a superteam. Like James, Jordan chased every off-court dollar. The man made a movie with Bugs Bunny. But fans always believed that Jordan's desire to win came first -- and Jordan seemed to understand that was essential to his mass appeal. He never would have bolted for another team to make his championship path easier, because that would have been a cop-out. Jordan's ego was too big for cop-outs. He was too competitive.
James sometimes seems more worried about becoming a billionaire than about winning championships. But if he is smart, he will realize that becoming a global icon depends on his image, and his image depends on winning -- and, just as importantly, how he wins.
And if he wins somewhere other than Cleveland, it won't be the same.
If James leaves Cleveland, he'll lose fans he can never get back. He will forever be the guy who ditched his long-suffering hometown to chase easier championships, money or fame. And that's a pretty good way for him to ensure that he won't get as much money or fame as he'd like.
James leaving would be unlike anything we've seen in sports. Shaquille O'Neal left Orlando for Los Angeles, but a) Orlando was not Shaq's hometown; b) Orlando was not the longest-suffering big sports city in America, like Cleveland is; and c) Shaq was not yet the dominant force in his sport. (Jordan was.)
Free agency is a big ego-stroke for James right now. Everybody loves him, because everybody thinks they have a shot at him. But once he picks a team, that ends. And that's when the backlash could begin.
If James goes to Miami, he risks always being A-Rod to Dwyane Wade's Jeter. Wade, like Derek Jeter, is a likable, future Hall of Famer who brought his fans a championship. James is more talented than Wade, just as Alex Rodriguez is more talented than Jeter. But James, like A-Rod, could be viewed as the cold, corporate mercenary who is simply using his employer to advance his own interests.
If James goes to Chicago, he'd surely win multiple championships: A core of James, Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah and either Carlos Boozer or Bosh would be the best in the league. But he would never be better than the second-most popular player in franchise history. And since the Bulls have tortured Cleveland fans as much as any team in sports, except maybe the Steelers, James would look like he doesn't care at all about his hometown sports fans. Cleveland would instantly loathe him. And by extension, much of America would lose respect for him.
If you live in Sacramento or New Orleans or Iowa, who would you rather cheer for: LeBron James, who turned his back on his hometown to chase fame and titles in Chicago, or Kevin Durant, who sounds like he wants to stay in little Oklahoma City and build something special there?
If James goes to the Knicks or Nets, he'll face a different version of the same problem: He'll look like he sold out. James loves New York, but much of the country does not. The A-Rod comparison resonates there, too: When Rodriguez became a Yankee, he became easy to hate.
The Cavaliers have done a lousy job building around James for the past seven years. They have not acquired one credible sidekick for him -- no Scottie Pippen, no Pau Gasol, no Manu Ginobili. If James leaves, I won't have much sympathy for the Cavs.
But I'd have plenty of sympathy for Cleveland fans. And I suspect most of the country would, too. LeBron James would be an enemy in his hometown and viewed suspiciously everywhere else. He has been pointing to this summer for at least two years. But James should remember this about free agency: As soon as he signs a contract, he signs over a good chunk of his power. People will look at where he goes and make judgments on who he is. He should think long and hard about what he wants them to see.

Actually I heard that exact same thing on BSPN two nights ago.
They also said for that to happen Wade would get a Max deal, Bosh would get a Sign and Trade max deal and Lebron would have to sign for ~90mil. So Lebron would have to take less money to go to Miami. You think Lebron is going to play on a team where two other players are making more than him??
No Way.

I just don't see how you take Paul over Bosh if given the choice.
Bosh is coming off a 24 and 11 season and is the perfect big to play with LeBron. He's mobile, has a good mid range game on the pick and pop and he's a great finisher around the rim.
While Paul is a great creator, is he a good enough shooter to play off the ball? Regardless of who the PG is, there will be stretches where LeBron dominates the ball and initiates offense. That seems like a recipe for Paul to simply get lost in space out on the floor (ala Larry Hughes).
Plus, when talking trades, Bosh makes more sense because our best trade assets are bigs (JJ and AV). It's easier to trade big for big than it is to trade big for small. Can you even imagine how horrific our post play would be if we had to trade JJ and AV to get a PG? Yikes. I suppose we could get a big back in return but adding Paul would be a much rougher transition in my opinion.

1. I don't buy the LeBron dominating the ball because of #2
2. Pick-n-roll with Paul and LeBron or LeBron and Bosh? I prefer Paul because he can create and so can LeBron and you have a more devastating attacking rim style that way.
3. Paul can guard Rondo, Jameer, and Rose (and Wall) along with Kobe, Billups, Nash out west. We have noone who can defend those guys. Bosh's defense hasn't been great yet...he has the tools, he needs to learn how to use them better.
4. If we get either (obviously with LeBron), I'm ecstatic

I'm with you Nas, and we're probably in the minority. I'd take Bosh too. Look at the Lakers (as well as most Champ winning dynasties) ... It's usually a big man and a non-point guard as the two alpha dogs. The big exception is Jordan/Pippen and even in that case, neither was a point-guard.
Plus you have to consider Paul's knee injury. Although I certainly wouldn't complain if we did get him.

I heard Stephen Ass Smith on the radio on the way back to work, and he was adament that his sources said that Lebron is going to Miami with Bosh and Wade. Of course this is the same guy who's "sources" said that Lebron had agreed to becoming a Knick three years ago too. People insist that's an instant 8 title dynasty ... yet I'm not so sure. The Celtics had their "Big 3", and this would be an upgrade over those three ... however, the Celtics also had Rondo at the point (a big part of their offense) and Perkins at Center (a big reason the could compete against the Howards and Gasols of the League) ... plus a slew of bench players that could help when needed. Miami would have those 3 and then pretty much NOTHING. They would have to fill out their roster with veteran minimum contracts. Is that winning a title? I don't know. Good role players are just as essential as having one or two superstars. What happens if that team meets the Lakers in the finals? Gasol/Kobe Wade/Bosh would probably be a wash. A tough defending Artest would still probably be advantage Lebron ... but then what? Fisher abuses PG-scrub X ... Bynum dominates C-scrub Y. Laker bench dominates bench-scrubs Z, A & B? I would think Gasol and Bynum would have a field day again Bosh and Scrub Y.

The Cavaliers have done a lousy job building around James for the past seven years. They have not acquired one credible sidekick for him -- no Scottie Pippen, no Pau Gasol, no Manu Ginobili. If James leaves, I won't have much sympathy for the Cavs.
i don't agree with this at all. the cavs were never afforded the luxury of being able to land that other guy. even though they botched the luke jackson pick and traded away another lottery pick, there was no "other guy" there
when push came to shove in 2005, they couldn't get mike redd or ray allen because of the same reason we will keep lebron, the league is designed to keep stars in their current cities.
people will point to amare stoudemire, but we don't know what happened in those talks. all we know was steve kerr was waffling and danny ferry went with washington because he felt like they had to do something.
you tell me when and where the cavs were able to land that sidekick. i think we're all in agreement on this. the cavs have done everything possible, they may not have been able to land a big star next to him, but they have put enough talent around him to win.
they didn't lose to boston because of a roster. although bspn sure acts like that. they're doing it on purpose. it's convienent and makes the situation for lbj leaving seem like a no brainer.
and the other thing that just irks the hell out of me is this talk about chicago has such a better roster. are you freaking kidding me?
yes. derek rose, very very good player, he's gonna be great. but why all of a sudden is everyone pumping up joakim noah? where was this talk all year? are you kidding me joakim noah as a focal point of a reason to bring lebron james to the bulls? how are people buying this crap?
how's their depth/bench? how's their coach? defensive whiz assistant? hm. been down that road before haven't we?
top to bottom, the cavs still have a better roster than the bulls. derek rose is a better player than anyone not named lebron, but when you factor in that a team is comprised of more than 2 guys, it's really not even that close.
we had 2 guys hurt, one of them our best player, a third player coming back from injury, we weren't playing well as a team, and we still kicked their ass in the playoffs.

I think you're greatly underestimating Chalmers. His ceiling is like Rondo. He's a very good defender and solid passer. They could sign Brandan Haywood to play center. Also the 08 Celtics didn't have amazing depth.
When you compare and contrast those teams:
Chalmers = Rondo (in 08 he was a weakness) D- Wade >> Allen LBJ >> Pierce Bosh < KG Haywood < Perkins
Also if Pat Riley coaches that team then
Riley > Rivers

on paper it would be a better roster, but those guys all made a pact to sacrifice some of the things they were used to doing, being the best players on their respective teams.
don't underestimate kg's ability (back then) to defend great 4's and some 5's.
