Probably use the guys we already have on the roster.
I really don't see us going after anyone from outside the team.

These goofy strength coaches get these guys as tight as piano wire.
Hire a friggen Yoga instructor and get these guys stretched out.

This stinks. Hope they are alright soon. Hammy is probably not a big deal. The cart concerns me more. Hope he is not into something serioso. It is pigskin, I know, and football is why God made scars, but I still hate to see these things when we play (JMHO) too many preseason games. Get well, Browns.

Agreed, Ytown. I was more or less thinking, what would we do with the guys we have now? If you go by the depth chart in the other forum, Barton is behind DQ. If D'Qwell were to be the "biggest" player we lose to injury in camp, that wouldn't be the end of the world. Hopefully he's OK though.

CLEVELAND -- Browns linebacker D'Qwell Jackson, who is making a comeback this preseason from a torn pectoral muscle, may have suffered another pectoral injury in practice today, a source told The Plain Dealer.
The extent of the injury is unknown, but it's not the surgically-repaired pectoral, the source said. Jackson went in to be examined by the doctor at about 8 p.m. and most likely undwerwent and MRI.
Well here we go again. Rash of these pect injuries in the last few years is interesting.

It is weird, these injuries did not seem to happen a few years ago, or else they were just reported differently. Now it seems like every week a guy in the NFL is going down with a pectoral injury. Its becoming the new lis franc- and both take a player out for the year.

Isn't think what finally put Courtney Brown out? Against the Seahawks tackling Shaun Alexander one-armed while being blocked?

The only way you can tear a pectoral that I know of is to be in a position where you are reaching back outside of your shoulder and your arm is met with force. (like when you overrun a play but try to reach to make the tackle)
I think that poor tackling technique and being out of position are more to blame than any "overtraining".

Not disagreeing with you so much but poor techniques have always been around....perhaps add to that maybe it's the workouts/weightlifting..trying to add too much muscle/bulk..that muscle isn't all that flexible and can tear.

Not good news if it's true, Ytown. Hate to see D'Qwell go down, even though I am not a huge fan of his. If he is done for the year what are our options?
Insert Maiva / Veikune/ Bowens. DQ is not a lethal enforcer. We will do just as well without him.

Well, how much "flexibility" do you get in a large muscle like the pectoral?
I really believe that poor technique, and bigger, faster players are a major part of the problem. Overtraining could be .... but we didn't see these types of injuries in the "steroid age", when many athletes were wound so tight it looked like they would pop.

I guess it has to be Maiava. The problem is that DQ is our only 'chase' LB. He's the only guy that uses his speed to make plays and even in the 3-4, I think you need 1 guy that does that.
Veikune and Bowens are not speed-first guys.

just clicking...
Why some players are able to play the game without major injury, while others such a DQ seem to get easily or often injured?...is unknown.
Ultimately, each player needs to know his own body and do what is necessary to avoid injury. Only the strong survive..hopefully he will come back...if not, someone else moves up to take his place.
One player's season ending injury is another players opportunity to prove he can play at the NFL level.

Before any kind of this training, I would say, athletically, these guys are about the same, and yoga could make a big impact.
The posts regarding tackling/coaching technique, in my mind, are a huge difference.
Luck as a factor ? Well, that exists for everyone in the NFL, but ours is BAD !

When I played I did both strength training and yoga but only strength training was required. Yoga or ballet was recommended to us but high school kids aren't generally secure enough with themselves to ever attend those classes. I did yoga 2 of the 4 years but that was only because I learned about how many stretchy, bendy girls were in those classes Looking back on it though, it was a good idea. I had an injury free 4 years, but I can't say whether or not the yoga had anything to do with it. But I can say that it made me a little bit lighter on my feet and more agile, and playing outside linebacker that came in handy. Actually should probably get back into it now. It can be a lot more hard work than it seems it would be but it always made me feel great.

Im not a big fan of the chase LBer, cause usually it just means he is chasing a play down that he wasnt big enough to blow up at the line. Roth is much more my type of LBer. Blow up the line, and disrupt the play instead of chasing it down. If a play has made it past the linebackers I would hope our new hard hitting safeties will come up and make the play.

So I have a question... Was there some confusion about Wright being injured or are Wright and DQ injured? And is there any news on Wright or Benard?

That's not possible. I thought he was out for the entire season, or at least we were assuming that was the case.

I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism
