Actually, a guy like Geathers might be more of a concern.
He's got enough physical talents that someone could come along and grab him.

I'm still hoping we get Danso on our PS. I just like that guy's story.

Ahh.
I remember we waived him, but never checked to see if he went on IR.
Thanks for the correction.

Wow, 12 LB's Only 5 DL and 8 DB's
We kept all 4 TE's as I thought we might. Other then that no big surprises on offense.
I gotta wonder if a trade for one of our LB is in the works.
3 CB makes no sense. Someone is coming in, or coming back.
I don't see us keeping 4 TE all year long.
I think that there will be significant changes by Monday morning. (Maybe 6-7 spots changing by then)
I can see keeping an extra LB, because DQ is not ready yet, but 12 is unheard of [until now]. (((Shaking head))).
The 4 TE's could be in part due to weather or not Royal will be ready to go next week.
Only 8 DB's is a little thin too, but we only have 5 DL until Rogers can come back after week 6. Now that's thin.
I hope to see some of these players whom were cut end up on our PS. Rookie draft picks Asante and Geathers. UDFA Sanford, Reinders and Chancellor.

A note on Engram and any of the other borderline, vested veterans: If they are on the roster for the first game of the season, their salary for the season is guaranteed.
Not saying that we'll see Engram again as I think the whole deal with him was precisely what I thought months ago: he wanted a shot, his old buddy Holmgren gave him one.
I, too, am surprised at the BMac cut, and the Asante cut.... except that BMac's next tackle would be his first, and Asante went invisible after the rookie camps.

We have Wright, Brown and Haden. Who are you counting as our fourth? Adams? He's more of a safety and doesn't have the coverage skills or the speed B-Mac has.
I won't miss B-Mac as a starter, but he looked good to me as a fourth corner. Hopefully, Heckert has something left up his sleeve here. Like I said, we'll have to wait and see how this plays out.

And if we are down to Adams starting, then we have giant problems.

By my count, we have 5 DL including Rogers, (Who was activated from PUP and is available game 1)
R.Smith Rogers Rubin Robinson Schafering
That's it as far as I can tell.
That't thin for a bunch of really big guys.

That makes a lot more sense then. I can see 6 DL.

I do. He is a good tackler, but his coverage skills are mediocre and he's kinda slow for a corner. He's much better going forward than backward. He's better suited to play safety.

I definitely would have preferred B-Mac as our #4, but I guess Heckert is hoping we stay healthy at CB or he has his eyes on someone else to bring in or stash on the PS. Hopefully, the latter. We'll see.

Lerner can afford it ... lets trade for revis .. so long as it doesnt require anything more than the extra pick we got for quinn in this years draft?

It's kinda nice to have to worry about who is our #4 CB, when we didn't think we had a #2 last year.

I cant really argue with any decision other than Barton but it wasnt like he beat out anyone that deserved that spot either. We will probably cut 3 or 4 more of these guys also as we look to upgrade. I see about 8 guys that shouldnt be celebrating just yet.
Now I will say that I thought most of these guys really went out and earned their spot especially guys like Benard, Titus Brown, Robinson, Schaefering, Alex Smith.

We have a dozen average LB's that's my only beef with these cuts.

What is unheard of is we got tweener slow LBERS Gokong and Fujita which were a step up from slower than sin Bowens and Barton9 both Mangini "pets" yet we kept those and the waste of space Veikune while purging all Oline and Cb depth and we kept the slow ventrone over other DBs. We got a slew of average redundancy at LBer and ripped the depth at Oline and secondary. Cutting BMac is REALLY STUPID and I believe personal for Mangini( ever since the twitter post BMac made, Mangina was steaming).

Who's to say we didn't get rid of who we knew we didn't want, and kept who was better than that, just so when something better comes along, we could get rid of them?
Am I the only one that pronounces hyperbole "Hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bo-le"?

Just Clicking Heres the article from ClevelandBrowns.com Browns trim roster By Matt Florjancic, ClevelandBrowns.com Staff Writer Posted 2 hours ago aaThe Browns announced 16 roster moves late Saturday evening. The Browns have waived 12 players and terminated the contracts of three others, the team announced early Saturday evening. The team waived defensive backs Larry Asante, Chris Chancellor, Brandon McDonald and DeAngelo Smith, offensive linemen Paul Fanaika and Pat Murray, defensive linemen Clifton Geathers, Travis Ivey, Swanson Miller and Brian Sanford, running back Chris Jennings and quarterback Brett Ratliff. Defensive lineman Shaun Rogers was activated from the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) List. The Browns also terminated the contracts of wide receiver Bobby Engram, offensive lineman Scott Kooistra and defensive lineman C.J. Mosley. This round of cuts came in addition to the six players who were waived Friday evening. The Browns waived defensive back Coye Francies, offensive linemen Casey Bender and Joel Reinders and tight end Joel Gamble, as well as wide receivers Jake Allen and Syndric Steptoe. McDonald started 27 of 48 career games with the Browns since they drafted him out of Memphis in the fifth round in 2007. He registered 131 total tackles, one sack, and eight interceptions, including a career-high five takeaways in 2008. He returned one interception for a touchdown and made 23 special teams tackles. Smith played in seven games with the Lions in 2009, making nine total tackles and eight additional stops on special teams. Jennings played in nine games, making one start with the Browns in 2009. He gained 220 yards on 63 carries and scored a 10-yard touchdown in the Browns’ 13-6 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers last December. Mosley played 12 games for the Browns in 2009 before going on Injured Reserve on December 7th. He made 18 total tackles, including 13 solo stops. http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/news/arti...2e-ee0b5e0ade2b

I dont know where you are getting the idea that Vetrone is slow? Is it just because he is white that you are assuming that? He runs a 4.4 and is very fast. There is a reason why if he doesnt get blocked he is the first guy down the field on kickoff.

Yeah, who has Veikune ever tackled???
How many times have you seen Barton miss on a tackle he should have made???
FYI, we don't need 3 complete sets of 4 LB'ers.
If you would like to think that BMac was cut, because he was not good against the run.....Okay I can agree with that, but to say we cut the players who couldn't tackle is incorrect.

I was kinda comparing B-Mac to Ventrone and to a certain extent Costanzo
I, and many others, expected both Viekune and Barton to be cut and keep 10 LBs
Like some other DTers I wonder if some roster moves may be made in the near future.
I would like to see one less LB ( Viekune) and one more CB. I want to give up on the project known as David Viekune.Keeping him over B-Mac is a mystery.

So it isn't uncommon for any team, including oure to cut later round picks. Savage did it routinely. So your comment really made no sense.
Also my bad on Geathers.
Just wondering, do you feel better now that you think I made no sense..

Here's the problem I have with keeping 12 LB'ers. It is telling me that Heckert has no spine when it comes to picking our final roster. No GM in their right mind would keep 12 LB'ers and only 3 true CB's unless he is afraid to go against the Coach's wishes. Larry Asante, was quoted as say that the Bears game was the 1st time he had played on any ST units That's the 1st place you would expect a rookie (5th) DB to play over even his position. Why was he not playing on ST's units??? So he is cut, because he is not ready to play Safety, but should have been cutting his teeth on ST units. I had no problem with us cutting BMac if it meant keeping a young CB whom we could groom. We kept none. I just hope that these moves are followed up by some signings and cutting our dead wait @ LB.

veikune played well against the bears.
AS for carrying 12 backers, backers are your best special teamers. Also we often employ the 1 nt and 6 linebacker set(veikune is very valuable here as a rushing DE). We have these guys blitzing constantly and to be effective you have to keep fresh legs in the game. I have no problem at all keeping 12 with how we use them.
I liked Bmac as the 4th or 5th corner but again you can see the theme of the secondary and he doesnt fit.
Asante hit the rookie wall and just never got past it. He is ps bound.
