During the game one of the announcers made mention that one of the reasons they think he is fumbling is because his arms are to big to grip the ball tight to his bicep. I thought that was interesting.

Well, if the announcers said that they are stupid. That has nothing to do with it.

I was at the game, so I didn't get a good view of his fumble today, but I can guess the reason for it was his desire to get another yard, or 4, and he let his arm (holding the ball) get away from his body - and bam, got hit - ball gone.

Just like what happened against the pats.

He needs to keep the ball tight against his body.

Arms too big to hold the ball? An announcer said that?

He had two hands on the ball. Yes the announcer said it and he wasn't the first I've heard. It isn't such a stupid thought. He will have a harder time tucking the ball into his body. He has a tendency to go for extra yards without trying to tuck the ball in but I know of at least two of the fumbles where he had to hands on the ball.

LIke I said - I didn't see replays of today's fumble. He had 2 hands on it, tucked into his body?

My guess is: no. IF he had 2 hands on it, it was away from his body - that's my guess. I have not seen the replays.

But to say his arms are too big to hold the ball ...that's just stupid in my opinion. His arms aren't huge by any stretch.

And honestly - I've seen him, and most of the players, in street clothes. Aside from Bowens - none of them are as big as they look on t.v. The pads, the short sleeves - it makes them look bigger than they are.

Trusnick, Fujita? They go 250 lbs? Sure as heck doesn't look like it. Heck, even #92 didn't look that big in person. Matt Roth? At 275?

What I'm getting at is Hillis' arms are not the reason he's fumbling - he's not carrying the ball right.

Sounded dumb to when I first heard it too. But the more I thought bout it and remembering how to carry the football( was a lineman in H.S lol) It makes sense some what. If his bicep is so big it would be harder to get the tip of the ball into your elbow and tight to you. Not saying this his reason, just an interesting thought. The other reason he said lie you is when he pushing for those extra yards it allows more defenders to hit him and get a shot at the ball. Which I think is a big reason.

Actually, I think the fact that Hillis pushes so hard and relentlessly after contact is the biggest part of why he sometimes fumbles.

When you wind up with 4 or 5 defenders trying to drag you down, some of them are bound to try tearing at the ball.

Thats my thought as well Ytown.

Fighting for extra yards will create more fumbles than going down easily; but also will get you a few extra yards each run and a few more long runs. Its a trade off.

Pdawg already told ya he had the ball with 2 hands and you ask again......LOL

And his arms are huge....and short.

Its an issue that does need to be addressed by the coaching staff, as it is clearly becoming an issue. The main reason is due to his fighting for more yards.....just like Stuckey did when he fumbled. The longer you tote it the more opponents are gonna come ripping pulling and swiping at it......Hillis has gotta have the mindset that he aint gonna let them tear it out WHILE he gets that extra yard or three.

And I'll take that trade. We now have a running game and I don't see any reason to be surprised if a guy like Hillis puts it on the ground some times. If he just laid down when he made his first contact with a defender I'm sure he wouldn't be fumbling as much. Personally, I prefer to see him push three or four defenders back for another yard or two.

Every fumble hurts. Both fumbles potentially took game-winning points off the board.

With Hillis', we were driving hard and we had them on their heels. We were almost guaranteed at least a FG.

Hillis fumbled on our own 30 yard line.. is Dawsons leg that strong?

Well let's see...that would make it about an 87 yard field goal...Are we kicking into the wind or with the wind??????
