Mangini continues to be his own worst enemy.
LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

IMO, Wallace gives us the better chance to win.
That being said, I'm not horribly upset that Delhomme is starting. I don't necessarily agree with it, but I'm not upset about it.
I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

Mangini said that Delhomme is ready to start and the coach "is leaning" to starting him over Wallace because of Delhomme's familiarity with the Carolina Panthers, his former team.
You would have to think that they know Jakes tendencies as well.
Tough break for the youngster it would be nice ro see him back by the Bengals game. I just hate to think we have seen the last of Colt McCoy for the season.

Well if all is well, Colt could play again sometime this year. As he will be the starter in 2011, no doubt about it. As he is playing awesome football!

He's playing competent football. He only looks 'awesome' because of the abysmal QB play we're used to seeing.
JD was playing decent until he tossed that "almost" pick-six. SW was playing pretty well, too... but we had such a small sampling of both, we can't truly know just what we had in either.
As for Colt playing again this year- I wouldn't bet on it. He's seen his share of play-time, and if I were in the braintrust of 76 Groza, I'd leave him out.... not because of problems with his skill-set, but because our OL is banged up, and not providing protection for him. Better that we should shelve him for the time being, and let him absorb what he's experienced... so that he can come back next year with one of the best rookie learning curves in recent NFL history.
If I were MH, I'd sit him, and let the vets take the pounding, while Colt continues to learn from the sidelines. If he's gonna be our future QB, he's better served by absorbing his gametime experiences, doing some more study, and coming in as our #1 next year- when he's had an enire offseason, OTA, Minicamp, and TC to get established.

I'd put him slightly above "competent", but close enough.
I agree for the most part, although watching Colt develop was about all we had left for this year.
I am concerned that he has not shown enough for us to spend high draft choices on other positions of need besides QB.
Also, without the visible improvement and spark that the new QB provides, I am concerned that we will have yet another coaching change.

Not saying I disagree with you - but if we draft a qb high we fall into that catch 22 of "we still need linemen, we still need a top notch rec, we still need a linebacker, etc"

Luck is head and shoulders ahead of his pears. I don't see any other QB's being a factor in the first round.
I don't think we have seen the last of Colt McCoy in 2010. At least I would not bet against it.

That's probably the best case scenario for Cincy drafting. Second-best would be them drafting Adrian Clayborne who I think is way overrated as a top-5 pick. However, with Ocho on the verge of a breakdown this year and TO getting fed up with being around mortals they are a risk to go Green.

From what I've seen, I think that Newton will need a ton of work to make it as an NFL QB. He's a really good athlete, but not freakinshly good like a Michael Vick. Mechanically he has many issues that need work. He doesn't have the quickest release. His footwork can get him into trouble, especially if he has to move in the pocket.
He could create some problems, but I think that he's going to take several years, if ever, to develop into an effective NFL QB.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.

I think Newton has the potential to be a sick player, but I wouldn't touch him in the first round. For one, he has character issues up the wazoo. Two, he comes from a spread option offense where he makes on read, then takes off running. His arm is an absolute rocket, and when his footwork is good, he is very accurate. However, he gets lazy on easy throws and is occasionally very erratic. He is obviously relatively fast, but he doesn't have Mike Vick speed. He is, however, very elusive in the open field and is extremely difficult to bring down. While his release is quick (as you said) it's not terribly slow and isn't an issue. But yeah, he definitely needs to work on his mechanics and footwork, and he has no experience in making progressions. No one knows how smart he is really. And without access to interviews, it's nearly impossible to tell too.
Here's where I stand wit him basically: He's not a player I want my team to draft, but he's not a player I want my rival to draft either.
Water: If you want to debate instead of calling me a "know it all ass" go ahead. I'm open to it. If you want to attack me and not say anything about Mallet as a player, shove off.
Here's what I see with Mallet: He has a cannon arm and great size. He throws to wide open receivers and isn't accurate. He makes some very questionable decisions especially when faced with pressure. Basically, he's Derek Anderson.

The mock had the bengals taking Newton in the 2nd...
And Newton IMO is what Jamarcus Russel (and Pat White) dreams to be.. hahaha.. Russel had the arm, but Newton is a gamer. He moves the chains. I haven't watched a lot of him, but from what I've seen.. he generally comes through for his teammates.
the NFL would be drastically different for him though seeing that he has a lot of QB sneaks, so yes, he would need to work on his passing game.
