Who is Mornhinweg's agent?
Anyway, I think Mornhinweg is a good hire. Holmgren gets the guy he wants and the staff he wants. Also, West Coast offense comes to Cleveland.
Maybe we can actually pull off a screen pass if we hire him.

Well, I didn't hear or see the Peter King piece, but the way people are describing it here it sounds like he said it definitively ... like it's a done deal. That's different than just getting your name out there I would think.

After watching the post game press conference (in which Gini basically tells the media thanks for putting up with him) I will be shocked if we don't have a new coach next year. I figure Eric will be fired in the morning to give us and him every opportunity to be ahead of the game. The candidates is probably a pretty small list if I had to guess, because Mike wants someone he's worked with before and shares his philosophies (the main reason I think Mangini is getting canned). 1. Gruden...........my personal favorite. He gets the knock of winning with "Dungi's Boys", but he was playing the team he built in the SB that year. He also takes alot of crap for not sustaining success when he took over in Tampa. Well that's hard to due when your short two 1st rounders (albeit the Bucs traded them for him...lol). He's got some warts, but I do believe he gets the most out of the talent he has. A perfect example is Rich Gannon. Gannon is a career journeyman until Gruden gets him in Oakland...........he becomes a Pro Bowler. By far my personal favorite on the list of names, but I don't know he can be convinced to come out of the booth 2. Marty "I defer" Mornhinweg. Has HC experience, but didn't have any success. I am personally not a huge fan of this hire, but I do find it funny that a lot of the guys that loved the Gini hire (saying he would learn from his mistakes) hate the thought of MM. If he's our guy I hope he did learn from his mistakes, and more importantly I hope he will learn from Mike while he's here. 3. John Fox....Out of all the names mentioned this makes the least amount of sense to me. If my theory is correct, Gini is gone mainly because Mike wants someone who shares his philosophy. Well the only thing Holmgren and Fox share is an agent....lol. They are very different philosophically on offense, and I just don't see him as a fit here. He might get an interview as a favor to MH's agent, but I'll be shocked if he gets the job. An interesting off season ahead, and we will once again see a ton of change over (especially on the defensive side of the ball). Here's to hoping this time is different

Just would like to point out that Mornhinweg was on Holmgren's staff for two years with the Packers. And Mornhinweg is the offensive coordinator for one of Holmgren's best buddies (Andy Reid). And they share an agent.
It doesn't take too much inside information to figure this one out.

Not a done deal by any means. Just the most likely candidate.

Yes. Most likely choice. Not a done deal, though it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out there must have been a wink/nod in place for weeks.

Well, if he phrased it as most likely candidate, he could just be speculating.
Which is my hope.
Although I'll reserve judgment until I see who the coordinators are.

My thoughts exactly. That could honestly change my whole opinion if the coordinators have excellent reputations.
If Mangini goes, I honestly hope we make an "underwhelming hire." Underwhelming hires work out more often than "big name hires."
Browns Fan needs to learn that. I mean really, the reaction from Steeler Fan and Raven Fan was "Who the hell are these guys?" when Tomlin and Harbaugh were hired. Seemed to work out pretty well for them.

Marty Mornhinweg would probably *barf* call his own plays.
I only say barf because IMHO NO head coach should call his own plays .... especially a guy who hasn't been a head coach for very long. The head coach needs to pay attentions to everything as opposed to reviewing overhead images and setting up plays while the defense is on the field.

I fully expect Mangini to be fired, but I will say that I wish the guy the absolute best. IMO, he never had a chance and I think he took it pretty well. He always seemed like a class act. Probably the best thing for him and his family is to get a fresh start.
I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

I wish no ill will toward Mangini either. Really wished it would have worked for him here. Really do.
And I thought he was completely classy by keeping things internal ... BE, Kokinis, whatever it was ... he never divulged any details about that stuff or tried to make anyone look bad.

If Marty is indeed the guy, I hope Browns Fan just goes with it.
I don't wanna hear any complaining or whining. This is what you wanted, a new coach. You don't get to choose who he is so stop resisting and just lay back and accept it.

The MINUTE Mangini was hired there were a bunch of posters on both boards with half a dozen almost vulgar nicknames.... I just wonder what good ones would come out of Morningweg?

mangni's problem is we never developed an identity while he was here. we're inconsistent in every phase of the game. Sometimes we play good defense, create turnovers, other times we give up an abundance of yards on the ground, and in the air. The passing game has always been below average, and the running game has been hit or miss. Not one phase of the game(minus special teams), could you say the browns are real good at. You look at the good coaches around the league, and they are known for either good defense, or good offense. Sure the talent hasn't been there, but mangini has really failed in this area.

Actually, we do have an identity.
Our identity is a hard running team that plays solid defense.
Having an identity does not mean that it works every single game you play.
The Ravens and Steelers have the same identity. The difference is that they are further along in firmly entrenching that identity than we are.

I'd rather they keep Mangini than Morniwheg. Honestly.
I'd rather they bring back Chris Palmer from 1999.
Actually I'd prefer they would roll the dice on some young unknown college coach if they are going to go with known losing instead. I don't mean Tressel either, I'd hate to see him have even 1 season as Browns coach. Bring Bellichik back Bring Marty back Hire Mike Singletary, at least he will have passion. Bring Crennell back, he was much better, would be than Morniwheg If they can't get somebody better than Bruce Coslet, then they ought to just hire Rob Ryan. Somebody!

Since this seems to be turning into the next head coach thread, I'm going to harp back to our search from when we hired mangini. I want a head coach with a proven record.

MM would be a most uninspired hire.
I want John Fox the most. Defensive coach who is open to any offensive philosophy.
I see a very happy marriage between Fox and Gil Haskell.

I'm "whining" because I want to see a man remain employed because he wasn't exactly dealt the best hand talent-wise. I'm not part of the mob that always wants to fire coaches and coordinators.
And if Marty is hired, unless it's an absolute Lions-like disaster (which it shouldn't be with Tom Heckert pulling the trigger at GM) you won't hear me screaming for his head from day one like the mob was with Mangini.

Will you knock it off with the "THIS IS WHAT YOU WANTED!" attitude? You aren't even remotely alone in wanting Mangini to keep his job, and even if you were, this isn't a conspiracy. Is this your new shtick? Wanting to be the lone voice of "reason"?

Yes, as well as calling the masses "Cleveland Fan" or "Steeler Fan" or whatever team you root for.
Apparently, he stole it from some TV/radio guy in Cleveland.
It's pretty annoying, but he knows he's being annoying and probably chuckling behind his keyboard. Either that or he doesn't quite possess the maturity one would hope from a young to mid-20 something year old. But then a lot of people have felt that way about Ammo on this board for a long time.

I didn't want RAC canned, but he was.
I don't want Mangini canned, but it looks like he will be as well.
So....I'm jumping on the bandwagon. Whomever we hire next, if he starts the year 0-1, I'm just gonna start calling for his head right then and there. I'll claim I didn't like the hire of *insert name here* from the start, he made "x,y and z" bone-headed game decisions and OBVIOUSLY the players don't buy into his system. But believe me I'm plenty "patient". I'll give him the whole pre-season! It's win now or get the eff out of dodge here in Cleveland.

Your point would be taken a lot better if:
Mangini had proven for 5 years that he isn't a very good coach and he didn't just get smashed by 32 points. Did I also mention he is largely responsible for putting us in a talentless mess in the first place with his crummy draft picks and awful FA signings?
Nah, he deserves to keep his job despite failing in every aspect of it.
you had a good run Hank.

Some of us with any concern at the Mangini hiring were so, because we felt we were, again, picking from the same tree (Belicheck) we had just eaten the spolied fruit from (Crennel). I'm not defending that, just saying it was a concern.
I believe bringing in MM is worse than keeping Mangini, but I don't even pretend to know jack, so I'm leaving it up to Holmgren. If MM takes us to a Super Bowl, good deal. If he doesn't, then he doesn't, and we'll be at square one again. "It's just business, Rafterman."

The possibility of Mornhingweg getting hired does not bother me for two reasons:
Holmgren & Heckert
If anyone knows MM...it's those two guys.

Oh believe me I hear ya brother! Bring on the next victim...I mean head coach. We need someone else to fire next year.
Maybe we'll get lucky and we can fire him mid-season. Nothing fires up a fan base better than the ol' mid-season coaching search.
Again (for the record) I felt this way when we fired Crennel and hired Mangini as well. Here we go round the mulberry bush!
