It seems to me he did what I thought he would do: hire a coach that would run the west coast not someone who necessarily is cut out to be a head coach.
I don't know. Just win.

If we run the same O that the rams ran this year, we already have the perfect QB for it. Nothing beyond 15 yards. Hell we may have hired a HC to fit our qb lol
I saw at least 4 Rams games this season....I liked their schemes and pre-snap movements a lot...I think a much better blocking OL and a guy like Cribbs is enough to get creative for Shurmur...add a speedster slot-guy and no.2 RB through the draft and it could work...STL just didn't have the same pull-blocking ability we have in place already...and he will use it....not only against NO and NE like Mangini/Daboll did and obviously forgot going all Metcalf up the middle down the stretch

The coach doesn't matter if we have the same talent level next year. We need more impact players on both sides of the ball. Make it happen!

WELCOME TO CLEVELAND, COACH PAT SHURMUR
If this is the guy our search team settled on, that is good enough for me.
Trust in Holmgren, Heckert and the rest...
A very important phase now starts...finding the best people to fill the openings on the coaching staff.

God forbid anyone would do that.
There's a reason he's getting paid more than the GDP of some small countries, and it has nothing to do with being able to 2nd guess everything on discussion boards. I suppose that's reserved for "fans".
Yes, there is a reason. You have that part right. Let's hope he does too. And BTW, simply because you choose not to question, doesn't make you a better "fan". Try not to be too offended by my personal POV.

Wait and see approach for me..Shurmur has ties to Philly which MH/TH know all too well. Plus how PS handled Bradford and the Rams offense . Now I'm curious who he gets for the coordinators .

If this is the best we can get, I would rather have Eric Mangini RAM Offense 2010: Points - 26th Yards - 26th Passing - 21st Rushing 25th 2009 RAM 1-15 record Team 32nd Points - 32nd Passing - 28nd Rushing - 20nd Yep, we got a winner...yea
Go Browns !!!!

Welcome to Cleveland, coach. Consider me in your corner. Good luck!
I'll feel like progress is being made as early as Daboll can vacate the premise for the last time. I heard Citgo is hiring . . . ((( ding )))

This doesn't excite me at all.. but that's probably more a function of the fact that a new head coach hire is just a reminder that we continue to flounder at the bottom of the NFL.

You realize that the Rams, in a much easier division, scored exactly 1 more TD than we did last year ....... don't you?
But ... he had to work with a rookie QB. The 1st overall pick in the draft.
Daboll worked with crap, scrap, and a 3rd rounder who wasn't supposed to see the field.
Keep that in mind when you knock Daboll, yet praise Shurmur.

I hope he does well. That doesn't mean that I can't balance some of the rampant over-excitement with a small dose of realism, or express my opinion.

What's with the icon?
Flipping the bird is rather small and immature for someone who claims to be a Browns fan...ya think?
Picking a HC is not about "you" or who "you want"...why flip the bird over Holmgren's decision to hire Shurmur?
Is this the way it's going to be?
Grow up, will ya?

It's just a bow down icon, mac, I'm not flipping the bird over the decision. Loosen your panties. I'm plenty grown.

You gotta get your eyes checked mac, they're not flipping the bird, they're bowing obediently, lol
On the topic at hand... has he been here long enough to fire him, yet?
p.s. I'm sooo stoked that an agent is running our organization.... we just need to look for rookies that he (or his firm) represent and we can figure out our draft.

You must be reading some different post. I hardly see any excitement, let alone rampant over-excitement.
I see a wait and see approach from most. Or a "I trust Holmgren".
I think most people on here are being very realistic.

That wouldn't surprise me at all. What happened to Holmgren saying he was going to search the entire country to find the right head coach?
I shudder to think of what might happen if Holmgren isn't able to get this team on track before his contract runs out.

For the record: Billick was offensive minded (and just plain offensive).
Oddly, they never had an offense worth noting until he left.
Conversely, we've had a slew of defensive minded coaches and have never had a defense worth noting.
In all, I would say that the coach's background means precisely zero. Hmm.... I wonder if having players affects things?

LOL That was my exact thought...
I'm not at all sure of Shurmur,, I look at his coaching history and I'm left with a little blah feeling.. But then, like I said the other day on another thread.., one could say that same things about John Harbaugh and Mike Tomlin prior to getting thier first HC opportunities.....
Hopefully Shurmur will do as well as they did. The difference might be,, both Tomlin and Harbaugh had better/proven talent when they took over thier teams. Shurmur is going to have some pains while new parts are added.
I suppose no matter who was hired, they'd have had to deal with that problem..
So,, GO PAT. Welcome to Cleveland.. Just win man...
