1. A.J. Green WR Georgia May be the most talented wideout prospect since Calvin Johnson.
I don't know much about A.J. Green, so I will ask you guys...
Does he have more talent than Dez Bryant? Because if he does and he's there at #6 then we would be crazy not to take him.
I honestly don't see too much difference b/w them besides attitude, and the obvious that Green is a few inches taller.

IMO Green is much, much better than Bryant, and I was a huge Dez fan. Faster, better burst, more fluid, and better at catching the ball. The only advantages Bryant has over Green are blocking ability and bulk.

It'd hurt enough to not land Green, but if he ended up a Bengal, I'd puke.
I can't decide on Julio J. at the 6 spot One second I think it's too high, the next, we should take him if he's there and Green's gone . . .

That's really the one thing i'm skeptical on Green is, his "bulk" he seems like one good hit away from being snapped like a twig...

Seems like he's built like Randy Moss. He has held up pretty well physically over the years.

If that is true, my butt is firmly planted on the A.J. Green bandwagon.

The problem with AJ Green is...We'll hate him because he went to Georgia...
He's ganna come in here with all that flash, and that Athens state of mind... We won't ever give him a chance...

If he drops passes and acts like a D-Bag off the field yes.
If he catches passes and doesn't like a D-Bag then no.

Here's a list I'd like to see more of. Sands, Havili, and Butler I feel pretty confident as being good picks in those places.
1. CAR -- Quinn (UNC connection?) 2. DEN -- Dareus 3. BUF -- Fairley 4. CIN -- AJ Green 5. AZ -- Crappy QB 6. CLE -- D. Bowers (DE - Clemson) If Bowers goes first, swap Quinn with Bowers.
R2. CLE -- A. Bailey (DT - Miami) Here's to hoping he floats around long enough.
R3. CLE -- Ben Ijalana (OT - Villanova) I like Ijalana's size but obviously haven't seen him play (he's FCS.) He'll be in the senior bowl, though, and if there's one position you can tell from the senior bowl coverage, it's the line. It was after senior bowl week and before we traded for corey williams and shaun rogers that i said we should take Rubin in the 3rd or 4th round.
R4. CLE -- Robert Sands (S - WVU) Productive, big guy I think can match up well with TEs in coverage. Obviously that's been a problem for our D for quite some time.
R5. CLE -- DeAndre Brown (WR - Southern Miss) He immediately sticks out on TV because he's so enormous, and he can make some pretty ridiculous catches. Not sure that he's ideal for the WCO, and I checked and saw his production dropped off a lot, but he could be a steal.
R6A. CLE -- Stanley Havili (FB - USC) WCO special, may not have Vickers back and he is perfect for the system.
R6B. CLE -- Bruce Miller (ILB - UCF) Haven't watched the golden Knights, but we need youth at ILB and this guy's production is pretty awesome. He's had experience at LB and DE, and I'd much rather take a shot at a guy like this in the 6th than the 2nd.

If we take any fullback I hope it is Owen Marecic from Stanford. He also played in the West Coast offense in college under Jim Harbaugh.
As many know, he also started at linebacker for Stanford.

Didn't Quinn miss a full year of football? Can you take a guy #1 overall that did that? I think the only way to get Bowers here is with Carolina taking Green, Denver, Buffalo, and Cincy taking the two Dlinemen and Peterson, and Arizona taking a QB. So maybe.. 1. CAR -- AJ Green 2. DEN -- Fairley 3. BUF -- Peterson 4. CIN -- Dareus 5. AZ -- Blaine Gabbert/Jake Locker/QB etc. 6. CLE -- Bowers

CLEMSON - Turns out Da'Quan Bowers thanked Andrew Luck in advance.
Former Bamberg-Ehrhardt and Clemson star Da'Quan Bowers talks to reporters at Clemson Saturday.
Da'Quan Bowers Press Conference
Former B-E and Clemson star Da'Quan Bowers is headed to the NFL. Hear what he had to say about making the decision and what the future potentially holds.
Luck, the standout quarterback from Stanford, was atop many draft boards several weeks ago and widely believed to be the Carolina Panthers' target with the number one pick in the 2011 NFL Draft.
"We were down at the college awards in Orlando," Bowers said, standing at a podium in front of reporters in Clemson Saturday afternoon. "And, I said, 'If you decide to stay and I leave ... thank you.'"
Bowers said he received word that Luck opted to return to school via text message.
"It just said, 'Andrew Luck is staying,'" Bowers said. "I was suprised. It just opened another door for me, and I'm thankful for the opportunity."
More than thankful, Bowers is attacking the opportunity. When a reporter queried as to whether or not becoming the top pick in the draft was Bowers' goal, it didn't take the former Bamberg-Ehrhardt High School star long to answer.
"Definitely," he said. "I think it's every college athlete's dream to be drafted, but when you are put in a situation like mine, a chance to be drafted first overall, why not take advantage of it? So, I'm going to do everything in my power to ensure that I am the number one pick - that's working out, living right and taking care of my character."
Bowers also appeared prepared to back up his claim by indicating that he would not only show up at the NFL Combine, but work out as well. Many of the draft's top prospects attend the combine but refrain from working out in favor of private workouts with NFL teams.
"I am definitely going to the combine," Bowers said. "I'm going to perform. I'm going to settle my spot as the number one pick on the field. If a team isn't sure about me as the number one pick, I want to give them a great reason to be sure of me."
Chances are Bowers' 2010 stat line - 74 tackles, 15.5 sacks, 26 tackles for loss - will be good enough to secure him as a top pick in the draft. He credited that production to offseason weight work and noted that he "quit cutting corners."
Bowers said that he didn't plan to revert back to the habits that plagued him during his freshman and sophomore seasons.
"Definitely not," he said. "I've had too much time there. Cutting corners ... it wasn't pretty. You know, four sacks in two seasons, that is not pretty. But, hard work pays off. I put in the hard work and dedication and it paid off this year."
Bowers' primary competition for the top spot in the draft currently appears to be Auburn defensive tackle Nick Fairley.
"I'm at the number one spot, but he is also at the number one spot according to some," Bowers said. "He's my friend, but if he is going to push me, I'm going to push him."
It's that competition that Bowers said will drive him through his training. He was in Clemson fresh of a flight from Los Angeles where he is training at API, and said he planned to return to Los Angeles to continue training Sunday.
"Just knowing that somebody is competing with me," he said. "Knowing that somebody is working just as hard as I am. It's just like college. You want to prepare to win. You don't want to do all the hard work and not be the best."

J.J. Watt is not even on that list.. Would love to have him in the 2nd round.
It was a clerical error on his part. I already emailed him about it. He has Watt rated as the #6 DE overall. Ryan Kerrigan is #5 and Cameron Jordan is #7.
But then when you go to the overall list it has Kerrigan at #17 and Jordan at #21 with no JJ Watt. Pencil him in somewhere in the 18-20 overall range and bump everyone else down a spot. There's no way he lasts until the 2nd round. Sorry to burst the happy bubble
Also, this just goes to show how INSANELY deep DLine is in this draft when guys like Kerrigan, Watt and Jordan aren't even making the top 5 list at the position.
According to Scott Wright 14 of the top 32 players are DLine. The guys over at DraftTek have 11 of the top 32 as DLine.

Yeah, I had him there with the possibility that UNC/CAR might play a role, which really is more of something the media would talk about than would actually happen. Maybe more of a possibility had the outcome been better.

Though the NFL wants to implement a rookie wage scale that would wipe out the windfalls paid to players taken at the top of the draft, the league has been leery about handling the issue in a way that would cause a flood of college underclassmen to bolt for the NFL before the big money dries up. (With a true rookie wage scale likely coming in 2011, that’s no longer a concern.)
But there’s a broader issue regarding the connection between a rookie wage scale and the forfeiture of eligibility by players who can otherwise stay at the college level.
A true rookie wage scale would flatten the gap between the first player taken in round one and the last, removing the incentive to stay in school and increase draft stock, like West Virginia running back Noel Devine opted to do in 2010. (A foot injury suffered against LSU derailed that strategy by making him largely ordinary for most of the season.)
Packers CEO Mark Murphy recently made the case for a rookie wage scale in a Washington Post op-ed item, outlining the league’s offer regarding the No. 1 overall selection. “Under the proposal, the first pick in the draft would sign a five-year contract and receive a $5.34 million signing bonus and $1.5 million salary his rookie year, even if he does not play a single down,” Murphy wrote. “In years two and three, his salary would be set at $1.7 million and $1.9 million, respectively. His fourth- and fifth-year salaries would rise to $2.3 million and $2.9 million for a total package of $15.6 million. (If he is a quarterback, he would be paid $4.3 million in year six.) The first pick would still be paid well, but at a much more reasonable level than under the current system.”
It sounds like very good money to the average person, but the contract given to Rams quarterback Sam Bradford, the top pick in 2010, is worth $78 million over six years, with $50 million guaranteed. Sure, there’s some fluff in the guaranteed money, but Bradford’s truly guaranteed money at the time he signed the deal was $24 million. In contrast, under the league’s proposal, a quarterback taken with the first pick would receive a total package of $19.9 million, with only $5.34 million truly guaranteed.
Thus, the truly big money will be paid out not in the first contract but in the second contract. As a result, the goal will become to get to the second contract. And to get to the second contract, a player will need to get into the league and start proving his worth.
As one league source explained it to PFT on Thursday, more underclassmen will choose to leave, since improving their draft stock via an extra year of college football won’t translate into the big money that a big bump up the ladder would have triggered in the past. The big money will now come once free agency approaches, and free agency won’t approach if the player opts for another year of play-for-no-pay.
A management-side source scoffed at the notion that a rookie wage scale will cause more players to leave school early. “Players should only come out early if they are ready to play, meaning drafted high,” the source said. “Otherwise, they are damaging their NFL career chances. That’s why we have the College Advisory Committee that helps players understand where they can be expected to be drafted. The difference in the proposed wage scale vs. today’s system would really only affect first-round picks and some second-rounders. Otherwise, it is pretty much the same. Coming out early does not affect that many players.”
Still, the point is that, by removing the incentive of spending one more year in college in the hopes of shooting to the top of the draft board in the hopes of cashing in, taking out the cash will take away the incentive. Now, the incentive will be to begin working toward that second contract.
“What college kid is worried about his second contract?” the management-side source said. “How about none. They have to establish themselves in the NFL first. Otherwise, there will be no second contract.”
We agree that there can be no second contract unless a player establishes himself. But once a player no longer can pocket a windfall at the top of the draft without establishing himself in the NFL, his incentive will become to establish himself in the NFL sooner rather than later.
And he won’t be able to establish himself in the NFL by playing another year of college football.
Besides, there’s no clear correlation between being drafted high and being “ready to play.” Bucs tailback LeGarrette Blount was “ready to play,” and he wasn’t drafted at all. Titans return man Marc Mariani went from seventh-rounder to Pro Bowler.
Though only a handful of players drafted low each year immediately strike gold, college football players aren’t lacking in confidence. At a minimum, the NFL and the college coaches will have to devise new strategies for persuading talented kids to continue to accept the risk of injuries and concussions for a salary of zero dollars a month plus benefits, babe. Merely telling a player that he’ll need to establish himself in the NFL before truly cashing in will do little to dissuade the majority of the players from deciding to try to establish themselves in the NFL right now.

No certainly not, but even if only 1/2 of the teams need DLine we'll see anywhere from 6-10 go in the 1st round EASILY. However, that still means there should be some stud DL available to us with our pick at #37. Gives me that much more reason to select AJ Green at #6 and then go defense with our next 2/3/4 picks.

I will say the "Plus side" to switching to a 4-3, is that we don't have to draft a DE and "Hope" he can play OLB.
Where we are this year, it seems that no matter what, whoever we get is going to fill a hole well..
I'd still rather trade down, seeing as we have SO many holes... depending on how FA goes (if there is one)

No it's just I have to laugh that you are judging a kid off of 6 games.

6 games is usually plenty to evaluate a player. You think NFL teams watch 10 games of every player?

I still prefer a 34, but your not only trying to project them to the next level, but also like you mentioned a new position. DE<OLB, DT<DE/NT.
If we were to trade down and get another 2nd or 3rd round pick this year. I would be in favor of..... only if we feel that the players that are available would be a reach.
Who knows how they will feel about drafting a WR that high (if) that is indeed the situation we are faced with.
Not having a FA (without a new CBA) signing period prior to the draft will I think ensure that all needs will be open to consideration. I just don't see us drafting any other offensive prospects with the 6th pick, other then AJ Green.
We currently hold 7 draft picks and imo 'at least' 4 out of the 7 should be defensive selections. If we draft Green in the 1st and an OT later as far as I'm concerned we can concentrate on the defense and then hope to fill some other needs if and when the next FA period comes about.
I would prefer to have FA's signed before the draft, but ?

Why is last years tape no good
Quinn 'will be at the combine' even though many times the top few elect to only due private workouts/interviews.

If you are drafting high in the first round I bet they watch that many on some of them... there are going to be those where a few is enough.. like for a kid like Luck, then there are going to be those you can eliminate from first round consideration after a few games... but if you are thinking between 2 DTs with the #6 pick... yea I could see them watching 10+ games... that seems like a small investment of time for the amount of money you are about to shell out...

Plus, figure in this. They're watching tape and they're focusing on one player. So they watch half the game (because they don't care about the defense, if the player's offense, and vice versa) Plus, they fast forward until the play, or at least the team lines up.
I remember watching the HS Football Coach at my HS watch tape. He was fast forwarding all the time. If you do it right, it shouldn't take THAT long. Plus, if you're coach/manager, you can get an intern to make a new tape for you of just that player's plays in the game........... Then you wouldn't have to fast forward anything.

FWIW Scott Wright updated his sight after the JJ Watt mistake this morning.
He now has Kerrigan at #17, Cam Jordan at #20 and JJ Watt at #22.

Hypothetical Situation:
Seeing as Houston is switching to a 3-4, and Mario Williams is undeniably a 4-3. any thoughts to something like
#6 to Houston for Williams and the #11
OBVIOUSLY, we'd have to give more than that, but I'm just throwing an idea out there, a top 5 DE, an the possibility of getting a guy like J Jones at 11?
</pipe dream>

Well obviously Mario Williams is better than anything we could get at #37 and the difference between AJ Green at #6 and Julio Jones at #11 would be minimal so yes I'd do that in a HEARTBEAT. The issue is, just like you said, they'd want a lot more than that....which is what would ultimately make or break that hypothetical deal.

Phase 1 ... Get the texans to Hire Mangini as their head coach between now and the draft
Phase 2 ... Trade him our #1 and a 6th for his #1 and Mario Williams ... but we might have to sign Ratliff first to make it a deal.

I believe Kiper has us picking A.J. Green. Don't know if that has been posted yet or not.
I couldn't see it because of ESPiN.
However, Fairley went to CAR, Peterson to DEN, Dareus to BUF, Bowers to CIN, and Gabbert to ARZ. I imagine that leaves us with A.J. Green at #6 in Kiper's mock.
I'll take Green at #6 then go after the best defensive player available in round 2.
Go Best Available from there on out.
I do like the idea of having Havili or Marecic be our FB for the future.

Yea.. Kiper has us taking AJ Green, so does Charles Davis on NFL Network..
I'm not so sure though that the Panthers or Bengals snag him up first... With our luck, I'm sure he won't fall to us.. If not, we need to go Julio Jones if Peterson or Fairley are not there.

After having BOTH TO and Ocho on the team last year, any normal team would steer clear of a high priced WR that has had issues in the past (however ridiculous those issues are)
Buuut, we're talking about the Bengals here...
I will say though, that they looked ALOT better when the young guys they already have were starting, so maybe they just ride them out and get Mike Zimmer a defensive stud to play with...

Sorry to bust your pipe dream, but.....
Unless there is a new CBA in place at the time of the draft. NO current players under contract will be permitted as part of any trades during the draft. Only picks.
