I'm no Hathoway hater, but don't see her as Catwoman. And Tom Hardy is an awesome up and comer but I never liked Bane. Of course I trust Christopher Nolan.

Bane means we can definitely expect to see Batman get his butt seriously kicked, if not killed in this one.

Anne Hathaway is Catwoman and Tom Hardy is Bane in Dark Knight Rises!

Holy big news Batman! After months and years of speculation, we finally have official confirmation of the villains of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. An official press release from Warners has told us that Anne Hathaway will be Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman, and Tom Hardy will appear as the villain Bane. Here's the official word:

Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that Anne Hathaway has been cast as Selina Kyle in Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises.” She will be starring alongside Christian Bale, who returns in the title role of Bruce Wayne/Batman. Christopher Nolan stated, “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story.”

In addition, Tom Hardy has been set to play Bane. Nolan said, “I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies.” Nolan will direct the film from a screenplay he wrote with Jonathan Nolan, from a story by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer. Nolan will also produce the film with his longtime producing partner, Emma Thomas, and Charles Roven. “The Dark Knight Rises” is slated for release on July 20, 2012. The film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Wow, well there you have it. Hardy was announced some time ago as being attached to the film, and there was rampant speculation on who he'd be playing. Guesses ranged from Killer Croc to Black Mask to Clayface with Bane seldom brought up as a possibility.

Meanwhile, Hathaway was part of a slate of actresses testing for two unspecified female roles in the film, and apparently she impressed Nolan enough to land the role of Catwoman, which was not one of the speculated roles on the table, as last we heard, the choices were Vicky Vale and Talia Head (Ra's Al Ghul's daughter), though one of those parts might still be in play. Will there be skin tight leather and whips, or will this Nolan-ized Catwoman try to distance herself from past iterations?

Johnny Depp is over exposed but one of the best actors out there. If he'd been cast you wouldn't see me complaining.

I knew they wouldn't do Clayface or Croc. Nolan is making his version of Gotham as real-world and down to earth as possible. Hence his version of The Joker. Those 2 would require too much CGI and/or prosthetics and makeup.

I totally thought Hardy would be playing Hugo Strange. Black Mask would have been ok w/ me, too . . .

Just got on here to post this story but you beat me to it lol. I think it's going to be an awesome movie because Nolan has proven he knows how to do a movie (Memento, Inception, the first 2 Batman movies, etc.) I'm sure this will be no different.

At least Christopher Nolan will do Bane properly, instead of this trainwreck that was Bane in Batman and Robin.

Please don't mention that movie. Ugggghhhh . . .

I saw that movie opening night on a lightweight traveler of Old Crowe. I swore it was the best bat-movie ever until I saw it sober on VHS . . .

"Ice to meet you . . . " 100% crap . . .

Eary early on, there was a rumor that the riddler could be played by... Eddie Murphy.

My first reaction of course... "They know he's black, right?"

But the more I thought about it, the more I liked it. I think he could pull it off outstandingly.

But I digress.

Part of me hopes they bring back Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent, don't tell me he died, I don't believe it. He's locked up somewhere.

Plus I love Aaron Eckhart,,,

Between this and Transformers 3 ending, I'm not ganna have any movies to look forward to afterwards...

Following up 'The Dark Knight' will be hard. That was the last must-see movie that crossed all demographics that I can remember. Maybe 'Inception' qualifies too, not sure.

I miss Heath's Joker already (2nd best villian ever - Darth #1). I would have really liked to see more of it in future movies.

Two Face won't be back. I have NO idea why they decided to have his origin AND kill him all in the 2nd half of a movie.

Ya, I thought Jack's Joker was great.....then Heath made it look like ameatur hour at the local dive bar down the street. Sure, they were written differently, and Jack might have hit a homer with the more dark, evil character had he been given the chance, but Heath created most of the character on his own. So he "owns" it.

I'll pop it in every few months and re-watch my favorite scenes. Most super hero moves fad over time, 'Tha Dark Knight' is still going strong with me.

Considering that they tried to stuff every single "Bat Villain" ever written into the 4 previous generation Bat Movies, it seems to me that it would be hard to decide which one to use again .....

I would have chosen the Riddler. Properly done the Riddler would play to Batman's most interesting aspect ......... being a detective instead of merely a slug it out "superhero" .....

But I suppose that we're going to get another slug it out superhero movie ......

I grew up a HUGE comic book fan and I am sick to death of comic book movies. Only thing more beaten into the ground is vampires.

But Nolan's bat films are definitely worth re-watching.

I have high hopes for the Captain America movie. Love the real-world look of his WWII costume.

Green Hornet, Thor and Green Lantern all look to me like they may have screwed up. Fingers crossed . . .

Thanx fer nuthin', Ammo-san. My memory just spewed all over my brain at the MENTION of that movie. It was nasty horrible. This Bane oughtta be gut! Get yer popcorn ready!

Brownoholic, I agree with the high hopes of Cap'n America, a childhood favorite. But I have enjoyed almost all the Marvel movies. I think biggest disappointment was what all did NOT happen with the Silver Surfer, a really intriguing guy who never made it into the film. My all time favorite I want to see done and done righteously well: Doctor Strange.

Silver Surfer was in Fantastic 4 2...

...which is a weird thing to type...

For catwoman, you need a girl with BIG eyes and an extremely tight body.. Hathaway fits that description to a tee..

Should have been Sarah Shahi. She was in 'Old School', Sopranno's (right after Christopher died and Tony went to Vegas), and now she's in a new series on the USA Network (Fairly Legal).
