http://www.nfl.com/teams/story/NYJ/10031115WR Cotchery signs extension with Jets Click here to find out more! NFL.com wire reports NEW YORK (March 1, 2007) -- Jerricho Cotchery, who had a breakout year with the New York Jets last season, signed a multiyear contract extension with the team. Cotchery set career highs with 82 catches, 961 yards receiving and six touchdowns while starting every game for the Jets last season. "This was the perfect time to get something done," he said during a conference call. "I didn't want to try to do anything during the season where you're thinking about tons of things. It allows me to continue to just focus on football." In his third year out of North Carolina State, the athletic Cotchery combined with Laveranues Coles to form the most productive receiving tandem in team history. The duo combined for 173 catches and 12 touchdowns. "Jerricho Cotchery is the type of player we are looking for here," general manager Mike Tannenbaum said in a statement. "He earned a starting role this year and showed the productivity and consistency we want at that position." Terms of the extension were not released by the Jets, and a message left for Cotchery's agent, Jack Scharf, wasn't immediately returned. The 24-year-old Cotchery would have been eligible to become an unrestricted free agent after next season. "It was an easy process," Cotchery said. "I wasn't expecting them to come to me a year early, but they did and it was real easy. It was a number that I wanted and it had to be fair for both sides, and it ended up being. I'm thankful we were able to get it done." Cotchery, drafted in the fourth round in 2004, had 25 receptions in his first two seasons, playing mostly on special teams -- including returning a kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown in the 2004 regular-season finale at St. Louis. He impressed new head coach Eric Mangini and offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer in training camp last summer, and won the job as the team's No. 2 receiver behind Coles. "I wanted to stay with the Jets the entire time," Cotchery said. "This is the organization that drafted me and I wanted to be loyal to them. I wanted to finish my career here because I felt like the other teams, if they wanted me when I was coming out for the draft, they would've drafted me. This time around, they won't have a second chance to get me." Cotchery was involved in the Jets' two longest plays from scrimmage last season -- both against New England. He had a 71-yard touchdown catch-and-run in Week 2, and had a 77-yard touchdown catch in the playoff loss against the Patriots. "Jerricho Cotchery exemplifies everything we are looking for in our players," Mangini said in a statement. "He is smart, tough, hardworking, selfless, competitive and football is important to him. During training camp, he took advantage of the opportunity to compete and became not only a starter but a key contributor to what the team was able to accomplish in 2006. I am pleased that Jerricho will remain with the Jets for years to come." The Jets also officially announced that they released running back Derrick Blaylock and defensive lineman Bobby Hamilton.

"Timmerman could be ideal for the Browns, especially if they spend a fairly high draft pick on a guard and want an extra mentor. For that matter, Timmerman could start while tutoring Isaac Sowells, a guard prospect drafted in Round 4 last year."
Tutors, mentors, let's call a spade a spade,washed-up has been. There just isn't enough salary cap for tutors at every position.Coaches are getting paid alot of money to coach, let them.Besides we already have one old broken down tutor, who calls himself a guard.
Indecision may,or maynot,be my problem

Several Clevland Browns FO types are at Cleveland Hopkins airport right now picking someone up. They had a entourage of several limos in tow. My father in law saw them himself and called me to tell me.

FYI: Merged your thread with this one.
Just a reminder to everyone:
The next week or two is going to be pretty hectic and this place is going to get unmanageably cluttered really, really fast if we're starting new threads for every little thing happening.
So PLEASE... If there is an existing thread that your post can go on, Please put it there instead of starting a new thread.
Thanks much

my guess is stienbach posted this in the fraley thread but i think it belongs here as well. web page Steinbach to visit Browns TOM WITHERS Associated Press CLEVELAND - Free agent Eric Steinbach will visit the Cleveland Browns, who hope to persuade him to stay permanently. Steinbach, regarded as the top offensive lineman in this year's class, was scheduled to arrive at the team's headquarters in Berea on Friday. The Browns are one of several teams interested in the versatile and durable 6-foot-6 290-pounder. Steinbach can play guard or tackle, making him attractive to NFL teams looking for a cornerstone tackle. Seattle and Tampa Bay are among those interested. The Browns would prefer to play the 26-year-old Steinbach on the outside, but there's a chance they could alter their look up front if they can sign him. One possibility would be playing Steinbach at left tackle, moving Kevin Shaffer to the right side and switching Ryan Tucker from right tackle to guard. Before hosting Steinbach, the Browns opened the free-agent signing period by agreeing to terms on a four-year deal worth approximately $9 million with center Hank Fraley. Fraley rescued the Browns last season after they lost LeCharles Bentley to a career-threatening knee injury. Fraley provided stability, starting all 16 games after being acquired late in the exhibition season in a trade with Philadelphia. With Bentley expected to miss the 2007 season, the Browns needed to lock up a seasoned center quickly and didn't want to risk losing Fraley to another team. At 12:01 a.m., Browns general manager Phil Savage sent contract proposals to agents for several topflight free agents, including Steinbach and cornerback Nate Clements. Clements, a Cleveland native, is the top cornerback on the market and could be seeking a deal similar to the seven-year $63 million contract Champ Bailey got from Denver in 2004. ------------------ what do you guys think of the scenario in bold. personally I would rather steinbach play gaurd.

I would be fine with it I guess... but overall I don't particularly care right now, hehe Get him in here first, then worry about where he plays later I guess my ideal is to put him at LG, then draft Joe Thomas and then draft a Blalock or whoever the heck would be the best damn RG we can get. It wouldn't be perfect, but it would be a heck of an improvement over what we've had... and should be good enough to stop the line from being Excuse #1 for the QB's & RB's and general Team Scapegoat Extraordinaire.
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.

If we can accomplish this then we have improved by leaps and bounds. I am tired of reading posts about how it is impossable to grade our skill players beacuse the line is so awful.

It'll never happen until we have 5 pro bowl starters on the OL. I'm convinced.

After this past season, I'd settle for an OL good enough that the RB can make it to the line of scrimmage untouched every once in a while...

It will happen when we get 5 NFL caliber linemen. Some of us understand the game well enough to know that you can't judge a QB that has defenders getting to him before the ball does. Others think we should continue to plug in QB after QB because they were awesome for a few games in college.

Bucs want stienbach to play LT web page Eric Steinbach already has three visits lined up in free agency according to various published reports and one of the teams is eying him as a left tackle. Steinbach, the Bengals Pro Bowl alternate left guard is visiting Cleveland Friday on the first day of free agency and Tampa Bay Saturday, according to reports from The Cleveland Plain-Dealer and PewterReport.com, respectively. He’s also headed to Seattle after the Bucs talk to him about playing left tackle. ------------------------------ I hope this does not drive up his price tag insanely high.

Titans | Teams interested in C. Brown Fri, 2 Mar 2007 09:17:19 -0800
John Murphy, of Yahoo! Sports, reports free agent RB Chris Brown (Titans) has as many as three visits set up with teams next week, according to a source. The New York Jets, Oakland Raiders, Philadelphia Eagles, Houston Texans, Cleveland Browns, Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins are reportedly interested in Brown's services.

Could be the end of droughns. He averages over 4 yards a carry, and might be a servicable back until the draft in 2008.

Steve Hutchinson got tackle money from the Vikings.
At this point, I don't care, I just want the line fixed so we can run the freaking ball.

J/C
i have a very bad feeling about today
i think were gonna really mess up this Fa period
don't be suprised to see Clements sign with the 49ers, and Steinbach to get away from us and go to Tampa because he can get more money being a LT then he can an OG..we want him as a G, tampa wants him at LT, LT= more money, no way Savage pays a G LT money, not gonna happen
we may have an outside shot at that G from San Diego
i really wanted the Browns to Sign Pashos(RT from the Ravens) the kid is only in his 4th year, he is big, and a good run blocker, he would have been a great replacement for Tucker, and if we decided to keep Tucker, we could have put Tucker at RG, that would be nice to run behind the right side.
But honestly, i hope we don't get Clements, i do not want to give him champ Bailey money, that is ridiculaous, look, our Ol and Defensive front 7 should be our primary concern, we could probably get 3 players to help that area for the pice of Clements who i feel is over rated anyways
we have some good young Corners on this team, Holly impressed me, Poole played pretty well at Cb and safety, and we have Minter, i know Baxter and Cutch are up in the air, but we could find some decent corners for alot less in Fa and the 4th and 5th rds of the draft that would suit our needs
We should make Steinbach our number 1 Priorty, and we should also make a very hard Push for Robaire Smith the DT to help big Ted and Aubrayo Franklin from the Ravens..this guy is listed at 6-1 320 pounds...a good low to the ground guy to clog up running lanes, could probably play both De and NT
If we can get Steinbach, Smith, and Frankilin i would definitly be happy, also grabbing 1 LB, and maybe 1 more OL would be a good Fa to me, also bring in Tim Rattay for good measure

When you post ignorant statements, I'll reply. You've made it your mission ot trash someone you know nothing about and post your inaccurate assessments, I've refuted them. That's what a messageboard is about. You can post your opinions and people will respond. If you don't want them to respond critically, learn a little about the game beyond you and your buddies on the couch and playing tackle in high school.

Must be fun this time of year....every free agent a possibility.....all scheduled for a visit.
As a Steeler fan...I get none of that....
I think the Steelers will sign someone....very likely TJ Duckett ...but long after the initial wave of signings.

Since Chris Simms is a left-handed QB, that would essentially make Steinbach a right tackle.
Furthermore, he and Dielman were slated to get tackle money anyway according to reports, so his price doesn't necessarily go up. Furthermore, he may not want to play tackle, as he could be perceived as a failure, causing his contract to be voided upon his release, so he may have interest staying at guard.
Too much speculation right now to say one way or another how things will shake out.
***Gordon, I really didn't think you could be this stOOpid, but you exceeded my expectations. Wussy. Manziel, see Josh Gordon. Dumbass.***
