Aren't two preseason games enough?

The coaches and GM have the OTA's, mini-camp, training camp, and scrimmages (which we used to do with Buffalo a while back, right?) to decide on the back-end of the roster. Isn't that enough time (w/ 2 preseason games)?

College football don't have preseason games. They also have a bigger roster but still.

I will say that I don't have a big problem with 4 preseason games, just not at full ticket price. But, that'll never happen.

And, while I understand why they want to go to 18 games, part of me thinks "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." 16 games is just right, IMO. It's just long enough that I'm kind of glad when it's done, but I'm not totally bored with it.

Kind of like when I used to visit Las Vegas for a full week. By day 4 or so, I was still glad I was there, but I was kind of like "well, I guess I'll go gamble again." But, when I cut my visit down to 3 days, I was ready to leave at the end, but I wasn't totally bored, and it left me wanting to go back.

Now, would I really feel "bored" with 18 games? I don't know for sure.

I'm just wondering if increasing the number of games would have the opposite effect. Would football start turning into major league baseball, or the NBA where the season lasts 11.9 months?

18 reg. season games and 4 preseason games.

Preseason game one anyone plays after which you must place 22, 25 30 however many they choose on a "made the team roster. Games 2 and 3 are to evaluate your new talent and none of your "made the team guys" may play. Game four is similar to game one. It's the traditional dress rehearsal but would be played by whomever you wish.

Not a fan of 18 games though...

I just don't see how a fan of football is not in favor of an 18 game season. Its more football! I will always be in favor of more football.

According to two sources familiar with the negotiations, the league and the union have reached a basic compromise on a rookie wage scale that will replace the current rookie salary cap. The owners backed off the idea of requiring first-round picks to sign five-year deals, instead limiting the contracts to four years before a player could become a free agent. The agreement is also expected to include a stipulation limiting the amount of guaranteed money and signing bonus offered to draft picks.

Great news, to be sure.

Hopefully there will be more good news on the horizon.

If the NBA can follow suit, the Cavaliers may be sitting really, really pretty too.

Thanks for that update.

The rookie cap issue is one of my bigger grips of the collective bargaining process.

This is good news for the preservation of the game I think.

The idea of momentum is important to. That is a give for the players. Must be something else juicy hanging or they could, in effect, be buying their compromise position. Lot to be said for momentum, like seeing dominoes start to fall. I am definitely encouraged.

changing the subject line because on my screen it keeps coming up as "sources: agreement reached" and i get disheartened when it's not the news I really wanted.

If eligible..

As it stands now, maybe a couple of the PS players are better then the last guy or two simply because you have to cut them rather than stuff them away??

Sometimes there is a area where you don't want to just cut a guy, but don't have a way to protect him while with someone else you do have a way to protect him to some degree, so you exercise that option.

With what the owners are wanting, there is no way rosters won't expand by 2-3-4 players.

I think the number of PS players will decrease and the number of rostered players will expand.

The gameday roster may not.

I could see a system where if you don't make the game roster you are paid less, but over what PS players make.

Think of it in terms of a college travel roster. Everybody gets to suit up for home games, but only so many get to travel with the team on the road.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

18 games v 84 or 162?? Be real.

With every exhibition game played, everybody here is hanging on the edge.

There would be no more football played other than what is already played.

Something in here has to be done for the fans. We need two more real games and two less farce games.

Quit trying to sound like a agent.

I don't care about an 18 game season,, I think 16 is just fine. No problem with it at all.. As for Preseason games,, I'd prefer what the coaches want.

I know that's a cheap way out, but damn it, I'm no coach, I don't know what they need.. But I bet they do.

So if a bunch of coaches gets together and says, we need 4 games in preseason, then as far as I'm concerned, that's what should be done.

I think that is a well-intentioned thought and I have no problem with 18 games from THAT perspective.

However, it should not then be used as an excuse by the players to demand more salary if they're not playing any "additional" football,....

I think going to 18 creates more problems than it solves though. Safety, scheduling, injuries, roster sizes (MORE payroll), etc.,etc.

But -- no doubt about it -- I would watch every one.

I understand that the MLB and NBA seasons would still be substantially longer. I was just using it to emphasize the point I was making. I don't want NFL football season to be LIKE those seasons. Dragging on where half the teams can probably be eliminated about 1/3 of the way through.

Now, is 18 games too many? No, probably not. I just wouldn't want it to be 18 now, 20 in a few years, etc. etc. No, I'm not saying it would get there. I certainly hope it wouldn't.

Do you have season tickets???

If not, you don't have any room to speak as far as I am concerned.....and since I put my money up front....sent in over $1400 a couple of weeks ago, I can speak.

How much have you spent on the Browns over the last 2 weeks??

Really.....don't shrug the question.

For that matter, how many games have you attended the last couple of years??

Don't tell me it isn't important or none of my business since you are telling me what matters and what doesn't matter and I am the one writing thousand dollar checks and you as far as I know don't spend a dime on the Browns.

I like you man, but don't tell me MY money isn't important.

Oh,, Because I don't have season tickets I'm a second class citizen.. damn peen, that's small minded.. VERY small minded..

I've not spent a damn dime on the Browns in the last 2 weeks,, But don't sit there and tell me that because you did, that makes you more important than me.

Besides, last time I checked, nobody put a gun to your head to spend that money.. If you don't feel like you are getting what your paying for, PUT THE MONEY BACK IN YOUR WALLET. Don't cry about it.

I've said it before to you and I'll say it again, I don't go to games. they aren't enjoyable to me, I don't like the crowds... too damn many idiots out there/.

As for me telling you what matters and what doesn't,, I wasn't doing that, I was telling you what matters to me,,, NOT WHAT SHOULD MATTER TO YOU.

I like you too peen, but damn man, put down the hardazz routine and realize something, I was speaking from MY perspective. Not yours.

I don't have a problem with 16 games, I don't have a problem with 2 or 4 preseason games..

I'm ok with things the way they are. If you aren't, don't buy the tickets...
