Another couple places:
1) Louie's in Akron. Killer hamburger.
2) Napoli's in Canton. Chicken Parmesan about the size of a boogie board, and I have never been disappointed in the least.
I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

Peen: Dreamland is pretty good. Out of all of the BBQ joints I've been to, I think I'd have to say that Oklahoma Joe's in KC is my favorite. We have a Dreamland here in Montgomery and my complaint is that they don't have a selection of sauces out at the table. I like a good hot sauce and my meal was served with a mild, bland sauce. Now the meat itself was great, as was their banana pudding, but I wasn't a huge fan of THE sauce.
Next time I'm in Birmingham, I'll have to check that place out. It sounds really good.
As for Cleveland: I never make a trip without going to Goodman's Sandwich Inn. I never really went too often when I lived there, but I've never found a decent corned beef sandwich anywhere else. The quantity that they give you for the price is incredible.

Hey Peen, what kind of food does Chez Francois serve? I looked on the link and couldn't find their menu but was interested in potentially checking it out.

there's one about 20 minutes from us... great place. i love how they walk you through the kitchen to get you into your seat. very old school and a nice touch.
and the amount of food they give you is ridiculous, reminds me of mama roberto's out on the east side in cleveland.

Buca is designed for family-style sharing. That's why it's so much food. They say the portions are for 2, I'd say more like 3 sometimes 4 people.
I love walking through the kitchen and I loved dinner in the Pope head room. Awesome.

My wifes cousin had his Rehersal Dinner at one in Chicago about seven years ago. I wonder if it's the same one by you. I don't remember where exactly it was but it would have been with in decent driving range from Shaumberg.

There once was one in Mayfield,, it went out of business a while back.
we have my moms 75th birthday party there.. in the Pope Room LOL
I can't answer for any other location, but the food at the one in Mayfield went down hill and eventually, it went out of business..

Man.... was on my way to Gibson's when out in Chicago for work a little over a year ago, but we were walking, getting dark, and didn't know where it was exactly. So we ran into Ruth's Chris Steakhouse and stopped in. The steak was phenomenal, so I won't complain much. But really wanted to hit up Gibson's.

I had a great steak in Lombard Illinois many, many years ago ...... but I can't recall what the name of the place was.

I don't think so. That's a name I would have remembered. This would have been maybe 14-15 years ago. I went there for a lease calculation software training program. This was back before computers were anywhere near as common as they are today, and no one else in our dealership except for the owner knew anything about computers. lol The sales manager didn't want to go because he said he'd just wind up asking me how to use it anyway.

Well since you mentioned 185th...I used to work very close to there so I thought I would throw a couple things out there. Muldoon's...yes...very good...BUT...I actually like to head a little further down the road to one of 2 places. The first is Scotti's...a Very good Italian place...some of the best Calzones I have ever had...same side of the of the road as Muldoons just further down from the Highway. The second is a little further down frm there on the opposite side of the street. It's called Gus' Diner...GREAT food with very little hit to the wallet. good burgers good dinner plates...Just overall a great place for lunch. But if you want to step it up.....Bar none one of the BEST places in that area is Grovewood Tavern http://www.grovewoodtavern.com/ This place is amazing.... It looks like a little hole in the wall. And in a way it is...The Kitchen is right on your left as you enter. and you will see it is barely bigger than my cubicle. They serve 5 star food at a good price and they have a beer and wine list to rival the best lists out there. A truly unforgetteble experience. Make sure to make reservations...and make sure to order the spicy asian noodles...it is not on the appetizer menu but you can order them just the same...Located on Grovewood and 172nd....this is a must go to destination
I thought I was wrong once....but I was mistaken...

I don't know how long it has been there...I know at least 10 years...But I tell you it is a fantastic place for fine food and drink. I believe it to be well priced for what you get. For another dining masterpiece, although you will definitely drop alot of coin.... On the East Side, in Chardon there is a place on Rte. 44 near the I-90 Exit. In the little shopping center off of that exchange there is a place called John Palmers Bistro 44. http://www.johnpalmers.com/ I took my wife here for Valentines one year and what a treat it was. He has an excellent menu with wonderful wine pairings. The chef is nothing less than one of the finest in the area. We all hear about Symon etc. but believe me Michael knows John. Believe me even though you spend a lot of money...you won't even be thinking about it....that is how good the food is. If you are looking just for a good Sub sandwich...One of the best places around is "What About Bob's" in Downtown Willoughby. http://whataboutbobs.com/ Inexpensive, but not cheap on taste or quality or quantity. ...Subway may have their $5 footlong....well Bob's puts more meat on their 6" than Subway and Quizno's puts on their 12" subs. Fresh baked bread that is out of this world...you can buy a 12" sub for $4.99 and feed 2-3 people... they sell 6", 12", and 24" subs and wraps. Some of the best subs/hoagies/po'boys on the planet.

For casual Italian in Cleveland I really like Casa D'Angelo in Macedonia.
For Pizza in Cleveland, Geraci's.
For Italian in Austin, Quattro Gatti. Holy crap. This place was awesome. My wife and I want to go back and try everything on the menu.

there is a biagio's on vine street too. near 91. i am not sure if that is the same ownership but you can literally go there at 1am and get cheap donuts and pizza. i loved stopping there at odd hours when i worked at the news herald.
i can vouch for scotti's on 185, great food.
185 is still a blast. has anyone ever tried to do the crawl? lolz

The Casa De Angelo's in Mentor broke from the Chain....They are now their own entity and they are called just CASA. They worked out a deal I guess with the franchise and they still have many of the familiar dishes, possibly with a small twist....but they now have gotten to expand the menu and do things they were unable to do before....Still excellent....was there a couple weeks ago...

One tip with Scotti's...it is Cash Only...But when you make food like they do....no one complains...LOL
look for a Red Brick 2 story on the left side (coming from the interstate) I believe it still say's "Scotti's" on the side of building.

I was thinking of great steak houses and I remembered this one
http://www.geneandgeorgetti.com/
It's in Chicago....
I'm about a Par 5 away from G&G. Odd thing is, I've only eaten there once. It was really good. I went there for work. The wife is always asking to go too. Problem is, there are two Italian places on the walk there. We usually stop at one of them first.
It's got a very classy/underworld Italian feel to it. I walked in with jeans, t-shirt, Indians cap, and sandals (I was working from home that day). Funny, the whole place stopped and gave me a "who the fork is this guy?" look. The place was packed with business men in suits smoking cigars (back when that was allowed in Chicago).
I'll be adding that to the list of places we'll try in the coming weeks. I don't think I'll go with casual clothes again.

Yamato's at Broadway on the Beach, Myrtle Beach, SC. I have been there several times and cannot wait to go back. It's a very nice Hibachi style restaraunt with some of the best food I've ever had. Entertainment and food all for one great price. Nothing is over priced. Steak, sea food and chicken on the menu along with Sushi and deserts. Great food and four of us went for around $90-$100.

Liberty Brewery was pretty good at Broadway...and well Landry's is a chain but usually has decent seafood...a little over priced though....We really enjoyed....I want to say it was Key West Grill.....for lunch...we had some conch fritters, and even with the fritters it was an overall a nice, light refreshing lunch.

Liberty is still there but Tony Roma's is gone. Yes, Key West Grill is still there. Did you know that Landry's is a sister company to Joe's Crab Shack? Also for a great meal and cool environment is Margaritaville. I'm still trying to find that special little out of the way place that has kickass food and great service.

They had this great little Italian place, but it closed a couple of years ago. Great service, and hands down the best veal parm I ever had. It was on 17, and I think called Pomadoros.

Yeah, I 've heard of the place. If I am going to have Italian food I cook it myself. I make a killer pasta sauce from scratch.
There are places that close during off season and reopen in late March, early April. Some of those places are good but what I'm looking for in a place is decent prices, great food and friendly atmosphere. I did find this neat little place on 17 south of Georgetown. Well, it was kinda neat until ya saw into the kitchen and saw how grossly disgusting it was. Plus I kept hearing the voices telling me to paddle faster. Haven't been back there since I stopped in and ended up having a soda and nothing else. (it was a can of soda so I figured it would be safe)
