I know the "do you believe in ghosts" thing has been discussed on here before.
Lemme tell you about last night, quick as I can, with few details.
I woke up at 4 a.m. to my "good" in the house cat meowing in a manner I have never heard her in before. Ever. After about 5 minutes she quit. Then I heard banging, scraping, .........just not normal sounds. I grabbed the phone and something else. Checked out the room outside of the bedroom - didn't see anything, but my cat was right at my feet.
Checked the whole house - didn't see anything or anything amiss. Even checked the garage.
Went back to bed, with the "something else" on my chest. Didn't sleep real well though.
Got my daughter up at 7, made her breakfast since mom wasn't coming home today. Took her to school, and on the way she said "dad, I had a bad dream last night". Of course I told her to tell me about it.
And it spooked me beyond belief. She said "I woke up and saw someone in the hall." Of course I immediately assumed she woke up from noise I heard, and she saw me.
She continued on :"He was wearing a jersey with 00 on it. But I know it wasn't real, because he didn't have legs, and when he saw me looking at him, he disappeared."
Now - any of these 3 things by themselves is no problem. But, the cat meowing in the middle of the night (she's fixed, so it's not that), me hearing noises, and then my daughter seeing something.........would anyone else agree that's odd?
No, I wasn't drunk. Yes, I was in bed early last night. No, my cat wasn't looking for food - I checked. Yes, the cat is fixed so she wasn't "in the mood"
That cat has never woking me up. She has never meowed like that - and she has never clung to my feet like she did.
I'm hesitant to even post this, but I did.

Yes, that IS odd. Maybe you should look into who lived at the house before you. Interesting.

That's creepy. I'm not a big believer in ghosts. Not until I have an encounter myself will I believe.
...with that said, I hope I NEVER have an encounter, because it would scare the...out of me.

We've been here 11 years, the people that owned it before us were here for about 15 years.
I have never had this occur - and although my daughter isn't any different than any other 10 yr. old (i.e. bad dreams once in a while), she has never had a "bad dream" that she was able to give me such detail about.

That is scary. Have you ever had problems like that before?
Years ago I remember waking up one night and seeing a ghostly figure floating up and down by my window across the room. The figure floated for several seconds before floating out/through the window. I've never been so scared before in my life.

This is going to sound crazy - but even though I think I may have seen one a few years ago at my cousins house - I don't believe in them. Or should I say I try not to?
But what happened last night?

A raccoon was doing his raccoon thing at night, cat heard it and made some noises, daughter heard you walking around and had a dream.

When my daughter was really young and just learning to speak, she was getting ready for bed and she was talking in her room one night and we could not figure out what she was doing. We walked into her room after a long time and she said that there was an older man in her room and was telling her how nice it was to have a child living in his house, because he was never able to have children. We asked her to tell us what he looked like and she gave a pretty dead on description of my wife's uncle who she never even saw a picture of. The funny thing about it was that it was his house we lived in; he had died about 2 years earlier, and I did not even know that he was not able to have children.

Wow,, Creepy is the word.. Man that was really strange.
I don;t have any answers for you.. no idea what it could have been.
But you aren't alone in having seen or heard or felt things that are hard to explain.
Plenty of stories out there about the paranormal.. Hope you figure it out..
Sleep tight my friend....

j/c You guys freak me out with these things. And I have two cats as well. Now I know I won't be able to sleep tonight! I never saw a ghost but I don't understand how one can have a conversation about seeing ghosts without giving consideration what EXACTLY it is that you saw and how did you see it without talking about theology.

If you know who you bought the house from, check through newspaper archives and see if you can find a picture of the family. Show it to your daughter and see if she recognizes anyone. If she does, you have a ghost.
There shouldn't be anything to worry about, unless your daughter finds it threatening. If so, you tell it that the house is yours, and it's welcome to stay there if it doesn't trouble anyone.
I picked up a ghost in the previous house I lived in. The 16 year old daughter of the family that lived there had died of some sort of illness and a hospital foul up. I went to bed before my wife one night, and felt someone climb into bed and snuggle up to me. There was no one there. When I discussed it with my wife, she told me that had happened to her several times. She still lives with us, and will snuggle up to which ever one of us is in bed alone.

Or the ghost of a football player whose legs were cut off was causing a ruckus in the house, the cat was possessed by this entity then proceeded to enter the daughters dream.

No raccoon. No ghost of a football player (although I did ask my daughter if the jersey was a cleveland browns jersey, but she said no, it was just white). My daughter doesn't just dream this stuff up.
To others: No person that ever lived in this house died here. No person has died in this house.
I don't know what to think. I told my wife about it this evening. Started out with my daughters dream. Wife kind of laughed it off. I said "Yeah, but get this: " Then I told her about me, and the cat, and the sounds, etc. She's ready to move. (she works nights, so she wasn't here last night - or tonight - hardly any night really)
It's just a bit too weird for me to laugh it off.

Sounds like you're leaning towards paranormal activity. I'm not saying that isn't the case, but there could be thousands of reasons weird sounds happen in the night. Those weird sounds woke your cat and you walking around gave your daught the dream.

You dont think the fact that you are a big football fan could be a reason your daughter had a dream about a football player?

I'll say this - if noises woke me up, and made me check the house, I wouldn't think anything of it. In 11 years here, I've probably done that 3 or 4 times.
If it would've only been the cat - no biggie. Even with her meowing in a way I've never heard her meow before. This cat has never woken me up before since we've had her - never.
Even those 2 things together were no big deal for me. Until my daughter told me about her dream. A jersey, with 00 on it. The man had no legs. When he saw her looking at him he disappeared.
It's just too weird - all of those combined.

I'm just saying there was a noise, your cat heard it, then you woke up and walked around the house, which made you daughter had a weird dream. They are connected because one thing (random sounds), lead to other stuff happening, not a ghost causing it all. I'd love to see a ghost or definitively see something weird, just not when I'm alone. Oh crap, I'm alone tonight

Dont discount the fact that she could have been dreaming / half -asleep / half awake and heard you ... somehow that could have influenced her into thinking guy with a football jersey ... then when you go back to sleep, she stops hearing noises?
Not saying you're wrong, but there are possibilities to suggest it's coincidence.

And I'm the first to hope it's coincidence. Trust me.
Just seems like too many coincidences - but who knows?

I assume your cat is fixed? Could be that there was another cat outside that freaked him/her out.
Or your cat has gone mental . . .

That is a creepy ass story. This thread has ruined my sleep for the night. I've never seen a ghost but man, some of these stories are just too crazy to fathom.

The ghost that followed us didn't die in the house either. She did live there, and she followed us to the new house. I go antiquing with my wife and often see ghosts that are still attached to a piece of property they owned. The worst item was a bone saw in a Civil War museum in Gettysburg. I'm not crazy, I don't take drugs, and I don't drink. If nothing else, it might confirm your belief in an afterlife. Your experience might have just been you being in the right place at the right time, and it might not ever happen again.
BTW, I do believe kids are more sensitive to such things than adults.

Cat is fixed. 6 years ago.
Even if you hate cats you'd love this one. She's more like a dog than a cat. She has never woken me up - ever. She doesn't even get worked up if someone comes over with a dog.
I've never heard her like she was last night.

I don't find it creepy. I think she just misses her parents, and she picked me and my wife as surrogates. Hopefully she'll move on one day, but I don't think she's ready yet.

Have you ever thought of going on a paranormal show and publicizing your story? I'd love to see it. It's just weird to me, I've never had anything even remotely like that happen.

No. It's not like they speak to me or anything like that. It's not like it's something I try to do. It just happens. Let's face it, most people think those that see ghosts are crazy or making it up. I'd rather be my mostly anonymous self. If I ever feel I should write a book on my experiences, it would be fiction. The people that rented me that house were good people, and I don't think they'd want to hear their daughter is still wandering about looking for someone to snuggle with.

No offense intended toward you, Joker... but I believe that events such as these are intended for only those who experience them... and not for public consumption.
That's not to say that arch is 'breaking some existential rule' by asking for our input.... what I'm really saying is that things of this nature should probably not be messed with.... at least in the realm of "public entertainment."
I've lived through enough of these experiences to instictively know that they are intensely personal, and should best be left as such.
That isn't to say that arch shouldn't ask for input from folk he trusts... whether here or in his day-to-day life... but to call in A&E camera crews to 'videodocument' the whole affair is something else.
Issues of a spiritual nature should be treated with respect.
Why?
This one is easy: Because no matter how sophisticated and 'tapped-in' we think we are, we should always remember that we still don't have all the answers.
Dawg: I live my life as a pragmatist. I believe in what I can see, hear, touch, manipulate and measure.... and even I know that there exists phenomena than can't be explained by empirical data.
arch, My Dawg: If you can, take in this "freaky encounter" as a 'normal life experience.' Log it into your memory, be ready for your next encounter, and stay cool. It's less than it seems- trust me. I've had more than a few encounters similar to this... and I'm still here to talk about them. 'Tain't no big thang.... trust me- but it is "a thing to reckon with."
If you want to get more info, PM me... I'll divulge as much (or as little) as you want to handle.
Bottom line: you got "visited." Ain't the first time; won't be the last.
My Family's stories are thick with accounts such as these. I've been living with them all my adult life.

Well it's settled, no rational explanation needed. It wasnt something that could logically be explained, it was paranormal activity.

Because in the movies they do harass, abuse, annoy and/or kill you.

When we all know (thanks to the Sixth Sense) that they're roaming the earth to resolve issues before their spirits completely cross over.
I know! We just need to find Haley Joel Osmet and have him visit arch's house! LOL!
I've been in the presence of ghosts a few times. Heck, both of the people that owned this house before we bought it died in the house. They lived here for 50+ years and were the original owners of the house. Not surprising they've stuck around. They don't visit that often anymore. I think they wanted to see that their children sold to a good family. Since they figured out that we're pretty decent, I think they just come in to check on our munchkin. She definitely has seen things that I do not see.

I have two cats, the female is just a bit wacko . . . loving, playful but a bit wacko. The male, if he was a human would be a baby boy. Always wants picked up/loved.
Last year, there were two cats outside our house fighting. And it spooked the hell out of our cats. I'm thinking something similar.
I have never seen a ghost, but I have a co-worker who said the last house she lived in had two ghosts. A young boy who would jump up and down on the beds, and a old man who smoked pipes. She said every once in a while you could smell the tobacco or see what looked like puffs of smoke . ..
