With the season kicking off today for the Reds, what are everyone's thoughts and opinions? I'll predict 90-72 for the Reds with Votto finishing in the top two of the MVP voting losing to Albert Pujols in a close race. The rotation is solid throughout the season but Volquez and Cueto continue being inconsistent. Aroldis Chapman goes on to win the NL Rookie of the Year.
Go Reds!

I predict they'll win the division....the Cubs are going to stink, the Brewers will start very slow, and the Cards rotation took a huge hit with losing their ace (plus, the main story will be about Albert's new home in 2012 - they'll impload).
I don't see the Reds getting out of the first round though. But that's my view in April, who knows.
Good luck.

i'd like to see either the Reds or Brewers win the NL. honestly, i have a bad feeling about the Reds though. Under .500 team that came on strong and had everything align perfectly to have a great season.
And yes, I know they are a young team and that plays into it as well. Usually, there's a step-back year even for the teams that then move forward as consistent contenders (see the Rays in '09 as an example).
Like I said, I'm pulling for you guys though.

I see the NL Central as a 2 team race between the Reds and the Brewers and i think it will come down to which team can stay healthiest during the season. I would include the Cards but with Wainwright out for the year and their lack of pitching depth i think they battle the Cubbies for 3rd. I'll say the Reds go 92-70 but finish second to the Brewers and settle for the wildcard spot in the playoffs.

Although I'd love for my Pirates to shock the world lol, I hope you guys win the Central.
Really anyone other the Brewers would be fine. I loathe that pig Fielder and cry-baby Braun and wish them nothing but the worst.

What a great game to watch. Hopefully they can carry this momentum into Saturday night's game. Did anyone see what Jim Edmonds said about the Reds organization in an interview yesterday? What a clown. http://www.700wlw.com/pages/lancesBlog.htmlEdmonds on Reds *On his lingering foot injury and not being able to go to spring training with St Louis: "Awful, it's still awful. I still can't do so many things I want to do. It's really frustrating. I don't know the right words to use towards the Cincinnati doctors. I'm in a situation I thought I'd never be in. I can't walk and I chase my kids around. It's not healing. Surgery is the option right now. That would be a year rehab. I'm not looking forward to that. I still think I can play. *On the trade from Milwaukee to Cincinnati: "I think I left Milwaukee hitting .295 (but playing hurt) I was driving the ball more and really playing more. The worst thing I did was accept that trade for Walt (Jocketty)...I should have shut it down and went home...I'd be healthy right now and probably playing." *On the Reds this year and last year: "They are still pretty young. I kind of a had a feeling that playoff experience was going to play out the way it did. They didn't seem like they were ready last year. It's a different monster when you get in the playoffs. You need some veterans and guys that really step up.....and you need to be ready to play. You see they weren't.....They were really young and really naive. I hope for their sake that helps them a little bit." *On the makeup of Reds: "They have a bunch of good guys...other than that one situation (fight w/Cards) and that one player (Phillips). It's a really young, nice group of guys. It put a black eye on the rest of the rivalry. They are all pretty good. I kind of looked at it like my Cubs experience.I went in thinking God these guys are gonna be a pain....but they are all actually pretty good...except that one guy. There are a few guys that have chips on their shoulders. Overall, the 1B, their young CF, their young RF are great guys. Their LF Johnny Gomes I think is very misread. Obviously Scotty is over there and their catcher is pretty good. And they have some good backups. I don't know they are as talented as we would be in St Louis...but that's why they play 162 games.

Uh Jim, you mean if you didn't tear your achilles during a home run trot you would still be playing?

Just signed up over at MLB.com for the season, so looking forward to 7pm tonight.
Here's to a great season, let's hope they can stay healthy.
Going to a game in Cinci on May 4th , and have a three game stand down here in Tampa Bay @ the end of June.
Looks as if it is going to be plenty chilly when they throw out the first pitch about 49 degrees dropping to around 42 by the end of the game.....brrrrr!
I know...it is better than what you have had up there, ENJOY!
GO REDS!

Travis Wood with 7 strong innings tonight.
Can't help but to get a little giddy inside when thinking what this team can do if the young guys like Wood and Leake repeat their success from last season.

162 games Per Team
There is no way to watch them all, one at a time, or you would fall behind.
162 games in Baseball, starting off 1-0 is like running the opening kickoff of the first game in the NFL out to the 45 yard line.
Check back after the 4th of July.
Baseball season encompasses Easter, Memorial day, Cinco De Mayo, the 4th of July, Mothers day, Fathers day, Veterans day, Octoberfest and any others Does baseball coincide any of these with events of their season, like the all star break, or the start or finish of the regular season, or the start of inter-league play? I think they don't.
We have College football on New Years day, and Pro-football on Thanksgiving, but baseball?
Because of TBS superstation, Go Braves! My first favorite team to win a championship in my memory, in 1995.
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

Not impressed with the Brew crew, even with Grienke they wont be in the division race with that bullpen.
On the flip side it was very impressive watching Arroyo pitch well through mono.

Maybe it's not such a bad thing that Edinson Volquez opted to sign a 1 year deal instead of the 4 year.

The Hamilton for Volquez trade will go down as the second worst trade in Reds history behind the Frank Robinson trade.

I don't know. Hamilton is a great player but he has major injury concerns. Volquez is still only 27-years old and probably still isn't fully recovered from Tommy John surgery (players usually take more than a year to fully recover from that procedure). The jury is still out on the trade for me.

I knew Edinson would settle down and pitch well after I made that post, yeah that's it. What a lineup we have with a healthy Scott Rolen, have to find a way to keep him as close to 100% as possible all year.

No way. Pitching is a premium in the league. Anytime you have the opportunity to get an pitcher with the stuff Volquez has, you jump on it. Hamilton is a hell of a player, but he has injury concerns, and with his past, he could very easily fall off the wagon.

The pitching this weekend outside of Arroyo definitely has raised concerns. (for me atleast) 10:05 tomorrow night, I hate when they're out west.

Jay Bruce is an awesome fielder, his bat however has always been a little suspect IMO. Cueto needs to hurry back to the lineup.

Really? Isn't his bat the best part about him? At age 23 he had an .846 OPS.

I'm not sure about the stats, just seems everytime I watch him he doesn't do so well. I should look up his spray chart, I would bet 80% of his hit balls are to the right side of the field. Seems teams could put the old Ken Griffey Jr. shift on him and he would never get a hit. I dunno.

Reds Win 3-2 Take 1-0 Series Lead.
Man if Edison could calm down in the first inning and not give up 2-3 runs every 1st inning he would be pitching lights out so far this year. They have to figure that out.
Considering we have two of our starting pitchers out 7-3 is pretty good. I just hope we break even on the road trip. All yeah Heisey needs to start playing more I have no idea where though. Gomes has walked a ton and hit well fielding is still suspect, Stubbs has been doing well, and Bruce is struggling at the plate but I figured he would. Its a good problem to have but man Heisey does need to play more.
Go Browns!!

A few of you Reds fans have mentioned Hamilton in here, I'd assume by now you've seen he's out for the next month and a half already. Also, with him screwing up his right shoulder, that can't be good for his swing going forward.
Plus he seemed like kind of a d-bag the way he threw his coach under the bus after the game. You're a big boy - if you don't want to try to score then don't.

I think if the coach says go you should go but he didn't tell him to slide head first. Nothing good happens when you slide head first into home plate.

I kind of agree, but still if the player doesn't feel comfortable then he shouldn't go. The 3rd base coach is there for a reason, but it's not like they rule with an iron fist.
I don't get the argument that "it's the first inning, why would you have your MVP try to score on that play" though. No one knows if the final will be 1-0 or 20-0 and it took a fine play by Martinez just to get back to home to make the play. The pitcher was in la-la-land watching the play happen - why wouldn't it be a good play to try and steal a run at that point?
I do agree though about the diving into home part. Slide feet-first and this is a non-issue today.

Hamilton didn't do well in the clubhouse at all. I wasn't in any way upset when he left. I'm still not.
