I have no idea how Gooden got 13 assists. It was against the Cavs though. I didn't watch but I would guess Hollins had to covering him.

Perry Jones announced he is returning for his sophomore season at Baylor. It is definitely a surprising move but great for the Bears which will leave them with one of the best front courts in the nation.

Now, they just need to find two guards out of AJ Walton, Deuce Bello, Brady Heslip, Gary Franklin, Stargell Love, and Pierre Jackson.

Z got tossed from the Heat-Hawks game tonight for throwing the ball at Zaza Pachulia as he walked away from Z after scoring on him. What a loser.

HAHAHA Charlie Villanueva just got tossed for hitting Ryan Hollins in the face and then tried to attack the Cavs bench, a ref and now challenging Hollins to a fight in the locker room. I'm so glad we never signed that tool.

ryan hollins pisses everyone off. i love this guy. a keeper.

Yeah. Thing is, all he did was run into Villanueva's screen (where he dropped a shoulder into Hollins' chest). Villanueva is just a loose cannon.

I like that Hollins finally seems to have realized that he is 7' 240# ...... and that he can be a physical force when he puts his mind to it.

I also think that he's been a different player since that Miami game.

I also think that Davis feeding him down low helps. He stays involved in the game.

especially in basketball where trash talk is a bodily function.

there are lines you don't cross when trash talking, which gives you a reason to go, but i highly doubt that hollins crossed the line.

if it was a cancer blast like kg said, i could see it, but even when kg pulled it, villanueva did nothing?

What a trash situation the Pistons and their fans are. Seriously, tear down the Palace, ban all members of that team from ever being in the NBA again and move the franchise to Sacramento after the Kings get dumped in LA.

Also, pretty good thing that 60 year old woman was at the end of the tunnell to block entrance - clearly no one could get past her.

espn write-up says Villanueva later left the Pistons locker room and sprinted towards the Cavs locker room. Get a grip, dude.

would like to note that the Cavs win (and associated Pistons loss) locked the Clippers into the 8-spot (there was still an outside chance of the 7spot had the Pistons won out)

also, the Cavs are in the 2spot and it looks doubtful the Twolves will do us any favors this week.

so, at worst, we will have the #5 and #11 picks in the draft (if all top3 picks come from behind the Clippers spot).

more likely, we will end up with 1 top3 pick and another at either #5 or #8.

Oh, I know we couldn't have the team throwing the games. As a fan that cares more about longterm than shortterm right now though, it's a little disheartening to see odds slip away.

but hey, maybe we'll be rewarded with a little luck at the ping pong ball ceremony and get 2 top3 picks (also, we need to send Joe Tait as our representative to that ceremony)

i understand big picture that the cavs should be losing, but to openly root against them, or even worse, whine about it when they win just makes you look like a tool.

kinda like chris fedor on knr. seriously, that guy is awful, he was crying about it for an hour last night. only after he was done making excuses for tiger being a douche after the masters.

the whole APPBITH thing is a joke. we know the cavs should be losing, but to make it a big marketing tool is unacceptable.

and honestly, this draft isn't as bad as most had it out to be (maybe with barnes and perry out it is) but it doesn't have a true top 5 player in the league prospect. there's no kobe/lebron/durant/dwight/wade in this draft.

i could see us going crazy in 2003 to get lebron. completely acceptable.

Perry Jones I'm split on. I'm happy that he's out because that means we can't draft him. Sad that he's out because no other team can draft him and let someone else slide to us.

Irving/Kanter are my favorite guys (Derrick Williams and Barnes too if they declare). Veseley I don't know much about other than what I've read, but he seems like the type of guy we could use as well.

That's 5 guys. Add in Knight who I like and that's 6 I would be pretty happy with getting. Of course, if we get Irving, we can't be the Twolves and draft Knight too

nothing official but i just put him as going back because he's heavily leaning that way.

sullinger is probably coming back too. that's 3 top 10 guys going back to school.

i'm becoming more of the belief with others on here that this draft will end up incredibly weak. doesn't mean you can't find a legitimate starter, but i think outside of irving, i don't see a ton of all-star talent. at least on the surface. luckily we can have faith in chris grant to find it. i feel really good with him in control of this. i think he's gonna do well.

I agree. I like what our FO has targeted in the 1st round of previous drafts (guys who are extremely athletic and big for their position where they can play both ends potentially)

Hopefully, Barnes and Derrick declare. Otherwise, yeah, it's a really weak draft. Even with them, it's still a weak draft but at least there are legitimate building blocks we can hope to get out of it.

Cavaliers broadcaster keeps focus on game

Joe Tait might be the best basketball play-by-play man I have ever heard.

I would listen to his radio broadcasts of the Cavaliers and see the movement on the court, related by Tait in a concise, no-frills style. He was a constant textbook for would-be sportscasters.

The book closes tonight, when Tait does his last game for the Cavaliers. It is not the glorious ending you might have wanted for him. A Cavs victory tonight will end a nightmarish season of just 19 wins, the worst performance in the Eastern Conference.

But Tait is no stranger to tough times for the team or himself. Health problems kept him off the air most of this season. His longevity — the voice of the Cavaliers for most of the past 41 years — is all the more remarkable considering how often he seemed to think his career was over. I remember him wondering about his job prospects in a speech in 1997.

Of course, as affable as he could sound at times, Tait was also known for biting, brutal opinions expressed in as few words as he needed to describe
play on the court.

On one broadcast, a sidekick noted that Jay-Z was in the crowd. Tait's reply was brisk and brief: Never heard of him.

While Tait might have been kidding (a little), the message was clear: the Jay-Z's of the world have nothing to do with basketball as Tait knew it. They were part of the ballyhoo.

In what reads like an irritation-laden interview with Jason Lloyd in October, Tait was asked what he thought it would be like when LeBron James returned to Cleveland in a Miami Heat uniform.

''Haven't even thought about it, don't care,'' he replied. ''That's a media event, and it's the fans screaming and yelling. Obviously, they'll have a negative reaction, but I don't care. That's water long gone under the bridge.''

In other words, not basketball.

Asked further about James' move, Tait added: ''For the past 10 years, the inmates have been running the asylum. Now it appears some of them have decided to burn down the building.''

And after saying he won't be watching or listening to the Cavs post-retirement, Tait added: ''If I need basketball, I'll pop on down the road to Cloverleaf. At least I'll be watching kids play as hardóas they can play because they want to play, not because someone is paying them to play.''

Of course, players got paid during the years Tait has spoken of most fondly, even if it was not on the level of pay today. But the game has changed during the Tait years. As big as Michael Jordan was, for instance, it's impossible to imagine him commanding prime time to announce plans to change teams. Like ''The Decision,'' drama seems endlessly manufactured, with player introductions surrounded by light shows and noise — and not just at the professional level.

Go back to spring 1970, just before Tait began his run with the Cavaliers. Look at the seventh game of the NBA Finals. After you've stopped gawking at how small the uniform shorts were then, look at the moment when the New York Knicks' Willis Reed came onto the court for the warm-ups. No one knew for sure if the injured Reed could play. No one knew if the Knicks could beat the Los Angeles Lakers without him. Yet there was Reed.

Walking onto the court. No strobes. No sirens. No Eminem. Just Reed, a crowd going nuts — and one of the most dramatic moments in NBA history.

That's a Joe Tait kind of moment. The drama comes from what has happened. The job of the announcer is just to tell that it has.
