My wifes car was parked in the parking lot of our bar last night and some lowlife broke into it . That would be bad enough but instead of merely breaking the window to gain entry this mental giant used what appears to be a small crowbar and bent the entire door . They took her GPS , a C.D. , a pair of her eyeglasses and a Dillards bag containing 4 of her brand new bras . Wanna guess what she was most angry about ? Turns out women have a hard time finding bras that fit just right. Called the cops and they took the report but offered zero chance that anything would come of it.

Sorry to hear that. But if you need somebody to go around your community checking womens bras to see if I can find them, I can do that for you.

Already alerted the manager of the store and he said that they actually have tags on them that will spot any of the returned merch. and it will alert security so there is some hope after all.

Always sux when scumbags do this kind of stuff. A few months ago, some lowlife smashed out the long panel window on the back passenger side of my Jeep Cherokee. Idiots did it just for kicks too. Didn't take a thing.

Not to be critical or anything....but next time, maybe suggest your wife not leave anything out in visible sight in the automobile. Usually, if thieves don't see anything in the car, they won't break in.

But when there is stuff that looks like it might be valuable, sitting in plain sight---it can make your vehicle a target. I would guess that a Dillards bag caught the thieves interest. And GPS are widely known to be appealing to thieves. Between car stereo's, GPS, and probably cell phones---thieves are always looking for electronics. These are hot items on the black market.

I remember reading an article about some bust in cleveland where they recovered some ungodly amount of stereo's and GPS units. Something like close to, or over 1,000 units.

Thieves usually then sell them on the streets for between $50-$100 bucks. Sometimes even cheaper if you are dealing with junkies desperate for any kind of cash.....Some dude once tried to sell me a blue-ray player for $20. I had seen that same one at Wal-mart for like $299.

I wish to wash my Irish wristwatch......

Ire, hopefully she did NOT have your home address in the GPS. I have gotten several different e-mails on the warnings of having your home address in the GPS. They can find where you live and wait until you aren't home and then break in. Sorry to give you that news bud, but wanted to warn you to be super diligent.

We have friends and family park on Chicago city streets all the time. I warn them all, bring everything of value with you (or hide in the trunk). Even if you pack away your GPS unit, it won't do much good if you leave the stand, mount, and cord out for them to see. The theif will think you put it in your glove box or console unit.

My wife likes to leave her purse in the car. Only a matter of time.

I had someone break into my Cavalier when I first moved to Chicago. They got my stock stereo, $0.45 in change, my service manual, and a 10 year old set of golf clubs (and my stanky golf shoes). I don't know why anyone would steal a stock Chevy radio/CD unit. It had a theft protection thing on it and wouldn't think it would be worth more than $20. And my clubs, jeez..they had a special place in my heart, for being my first real set, but I wouldn't have paid $50 for them at the time. The loss of merchandice could be added up using just my fingers....but the jerk did $1,000+ in damages to the car.

My paranoid wife tells me that a lot ... but unless they are targetting you specifically, why would they care? Any thief can wait outside of any house and break in when you aren't home.

... unless of course they wear the same bra size as his wife.

The fear is that if they take the GPS (with "home" identified) and the garage door opener.

We've had a rash of break-ins in a local neighborhood. Why do people leave laptops and purses in their car at night? Seriously, HELLO! Also, if the car is in the drive, and the garage door opener is on the visor....ummmm, duh! Just invite them in.

Which begs the question ... if you have a garage door opener, why are you parking outside?

She's right! SO difficult to find a great fitting bra!

Sorry to hear about the break in though.

don't take this the wrong way, but it kinda cracks me up, the thought of some idiot thief running down the street with a 10 year old set of golf clubs.

it still sucks though. being stolen from is one of the worst feelings in the world. growing up my house in cleveland was robbed twice. the first time my mother came back with my little sister who was just an infant. the second time my two sisters and I walked in on them. horrifying.

that's why we need ccw--granted, you were probably young at the time as they were robbing your house--but robbers would think twice if they even heard gunshots or saw firearms. at least get them to flee.

We have a 2 1/2 car garage - with 2 separate garage doors. Mine, and my wifes. I park my car in the garage, and my truck outside, with the second opener for my garage door in it.

It won't be there for long though. (the opener, in the truck)

Good reason to program a police station's address as home..

At the least, you should just program home to an landmark address that you know how to get home from.

You have no idea how hard it was for me to not say " I told you so " .

What was really spooky was that this morning about 3:00 a.m a cop was pounding on my door to tell me that a 911 call was made from our address . After checking to see if my wife was home ( she wasn't as she was closing the bar ) and checking on my daughter I discovered we had no landline phone service . I called my wife who by then had discovered the break in concerning her car ....strange night.

Did you know that thieves have regular meetings and an annual convention? It's this whole network where thieves meet and exchange ideas and discuss the best way to rob people blind with no regrets, no remorse... at the last big meeting somebody snuck in and took this picture..

I feel for you. I had a "master thief" break into my Jeep a few years ago. The idiot cut the plastic window to do it. I've never locked the doors on it, and never keep anything of value in the Jeep. The 1/2 doors are one of the most expensive things on a Jeep.
