Dilfer liked himself too.

A two way player. FB and LB. Played that way. He can block and run. A throwback player.

No way is he a backup.

He's taking over for Vickers who cannot play in the WCO.

you had a good run Hank.

Where did Marecic go in the Dawgtalkers Mock draft?

Can You fire a coach in a year where football is not played?

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

Yep this kid starts day 1. Vickers doesn't fit folks, and won't be back....FB was a need. Jordan was just by far the BPA and that's why we got him. I love this draft....best we've had since rebirth by far!! I bet we walk away with 4 starters from day one, and JC will be the starter in 2 years...VERY good draft by H&H.

I'm pretty sure we're the only fan base in the league that would be bitching and moaning about drafting a player like Marecic.

Tough, physical, versatile.

Nah, why draft a guy like him?

OK ... we got rid of Vickers ... who could kill people blocking, but didn't catch or run much ....... and we drafted a guy in the 4th round .... the 4th freakin' round ..... with a career 36 carries for 67 yards, and 25 catches for 258 yards. (in 4 years and 49 career games)

This guy better be the best FB ever ... because we spent a pretty damn valuable draft pick on him ..... and we got rid of a pretty damn valuable player in his wake.

I don't get this pick at all. This guy does nothing exceptionally well. He'll probably be a special teams demon ..... but not much more.

Wow. I'm just amazed.

I think stats at the FB position are some of the most meaningless barometers for modern NFL success.

The FB is so insanely underutilized in college that none of these true FB guys are going to have big stats. None.

He got carries in goaline and 4th and 1 situations. How is a guy going to rack up big YPC numbers in those situations?

I have no idea how good he's going to be but using college stats, for a fullback, to try and discount his draft value, is a bit of a stretch.

I'm ok with all the picks up until Owen Marecic. That's a bit of a head scratcher to me.

Yeah, I've been good with everything up until that one. Hmmmm. FB.

And you know a QB is coming. Holmgren always drafts one late.

He led the holes for a guy named Toby Gerhardt, has versatility to play both ways, Had state titles in his junior and senior seasons ... was from a big name school that just won the orange bowl ... very smart kid (from stanford) ...

As for his actual rushing and receiving? He broke out his senior year when Gerhardt left for the NFL ... and they ran a more traditional I as well unless I am mistaken, so I don't expect a lot of touches for a fullback. Still ... 23 attempts ... only 46 yards but 5 touchdowns ... not a bad little bruising back as that could mean a lot of redzone touches where he only needed a yard or two to get in ... also - 9 catches for 75 yards ... once again, a great kid with the ball in space as no corner is bringing him down. Could be very nice in a west coast offense.

Don't forget that Hillis only had 362 yards rushing his senior season either ...

That being said I'm not in love with the pick, but I don't hate it and I DOOOO love this kid for his intensity. He wasn't playing both ways at west ohio community college ... he started and played BOTH WAYS at Stanford and was a captain for a few years there. Tough kid, probably a great pick but at least a good one.

I am hearing he started both ways, FB and MLB for Stanford?!?

Pretty intense if that is the case. I wonder where we will put him---and how we will use him.

I like the pick especially since Vickers probably won't be back but i think we could have got him with a later pick. For me the head scratcher is the previous pick, that TE to me is a 2year project just to be a backup TE.

The whole argument for him over Vickers is that this guy is a "WCO FB".

OK ..... to me a WCO FB is a pass catching guy with moderate speed.

This guy is slower than the DL we took ...... and doesn't catch much.

I don't see this guy in the 4th round as an upgrade over Vickers. Sorry ..... just don't see it .... except that Vickers was the old coach's "guy".

Ok, well maybe here's why-

Now I'm interested.

He plays both ways. FB and LB. He scored a rushing TD and returned an INT for a TD in the same game.

Interesting.

I don't have a problem with picking up a FB - as a matter of fact, I look forward to seeing he and Hillis in the same backfield. I just figured we had bigger needs and other players rated higher on the board - that was the headscratcher comment.

I'm ok with a QB. I'd prefer it to not be in the 5th at this point, but I know we looked at Stanzi and I think he's still available, so it might happen. Devlin or McElroy in the 7th would be preferred by me...

Well he could definitely be that and I'm not trying to annoint him. But he could be a very solid player. He also had 51 tackles, 2 sacks, a forced fumble, 2 interceptions (one which he returned 31 yards for a touchdown) and looking over stats he also had 10 total touchdowns in his junior and senior seasons.

He's a player. It just comes down to where and how (and maybe when?)

Maybe Greg McElroy will be there for us to get.

Boling went right before our pick.....seems like they were waiting to pick him and then scrambled to find someone else.

Maybe, maybe not. Nobody will ever know.

Welcome to Cleveland.

And remember people, we still have free agency to find other pieces.

I like McElroy, too. But if we're going to grab a late round QB, I REALLY like Tyrod Taylor.

For our 5th rounder, I'm guessing kicker.

Every other picks seems from right field.

I feel like Tyrod would be the next Seneca Wallace ... but I think Tyrod has a better arm. Very athletic and pretty intelligent when it comes to buying time with his feet but still looking downfield, and while he wasn't hyped or anything, he has proven himself against a lot of superior competition in the same way that the Cyclone did.

We're on the clock.

What the heck is wrong with Marcus Cannon and why's he dropping so far? Seems like a real need for us.

After franchising Dawson? I doubt it. We could draft a kicker next year or pick one up as an UDFA or sign a FA.

Height: 5-9½ | Weight: 186 | 40-Time: 4.48

Official Bio

Strengths:
Has good speed (4.3s) and brings very good return ability. Good burst and acceleration. Fluid hips. Displays good recovery speed. Very quick. Shows some ability in the return game to impact. Good reaction time. Jams receivers well. Very good closing speed. Has ideal athletic ability.

Weaknesses:
Got burned against top notch competition for touchdowns deep showing that he would struggle heavily as a man to man corner in the NFL. Lacks ideal size with marginal height. Looked like a late round or free agent type most of the time during the fall as he did struggle in man to man coverage.

Outlook:
Skrine started three years at UTC and even started three games as a freshman where he began to show the talent that would eventually earn him All-SoCon honors his last two years. His tape is average but his workouts are excellent and thus I believe he could be overdrafted or drawn up the board a good bit. Regardless of where he goes I think he will be a contributor on special teams and play the nickel as a rookie where he eventually could blossom into a #2 or #3 corner.
