By that logic Matt Millen was the best gm ever, and the Detroit Lions should have won like 100 super bowls......
Just doesn't work like that......

Secondly...And this is and always has been MY OPINION...The first THREE rounds of any draft r those that produce your most highly successful players...It's what dictates the REAL teams from the pretenders...Fourth round and beyond is highly nothing but developmental players who have a HIGH risk of never being anything in this league if not OUT OF IT within 3 years...
Absolutely. The numbers will bear that out. Under this new system (and I hate it too) anything day 3 is a wonderful thing if the player pans out.
It's weird drafting before FA thats for sure. Much more of a crapshoot IMO

I'm pretty shocked by this pick. Seem's like a clone of Evan Moore, former BBall player with good hands, but can't block.
6'5, 250 BBall player with speed and hands ... sounds pretty similar to Antonio Gates as well.

Dude. Does STFU mean anything to you? I had just gotten up, was before my shower, couldn't see for sheep, and was trying to do it in a hurry. It's bad enough I freakin forgot the pick we fleeced Denver for.

The WCO needs a fullback who can catch. it's been said a million times here, almost everyone knows it and still you keep talking about why Vickers is apparently on the outs. I love Vickers but he is not a good pass receiver.
We didn't dump the ENTIRE front 7, but for the most part our front 7 sucked last year so even if we did, not really a big loss there, dude.
I don't watch college ball but from I've been reading today and yesterday, I like our first three picks and as for the rest of 'em, who knows?

LOL Willie, Me and DnD have talked for years. I know that peckerwood was bustin me.
All things considered, I think it was a decent draft., I reserve the right to have some questions about taking guys that I see as more developmental than not. But, FA is ahead and none of us know WTF to think about it because this is uncharted territory here.
We are used to FA - Draft. Now it's Draft - FA (maybe)
And... let me be the first to spit on the 8th Circuit for lifting the stay.

So, about 30 picks left until we pick, anyone looking for a particular player?
I was hoping Derek Newton was going to be around, but HOU just took him. Here's a few players that I wouldn't mind us taking at 248. I think they're all still available.
Ugo Chinasa, DE, Oklahoma State Deunta Williams, CB/S, North Carolina DeAndre McDaniel, S, Clemson Steven Friday, DE, Va Tech
And my initial list of UDFA, assuming the league allows UDFAs before the lockout re-starts:
Anyone from the list above still available Alex Wujciak, MLB, Maryland Brandon Saine, RB, Ohio State Brian Lainhart, S, Kent State Dane Sanzenbacher, WR, Ohio State Darvin Adams, WR, Auburn Eric Hagg, CB/S, Nebraska Joe Lefeged, S, Rutgers Joe Morgan, WR, Walsh Josh Jasper, K, LSU Justin Boren, OG, Ohio State Keith Darbut, OLB, Baldwin Wallace Mark Herzlich, LB, Boston College Noel Devine, RB, West Virginia Pat Devlin, QB, Delaware Zac Hurd, OT, UConn

No ... we got rid of a guy that we don't want to be a cancer in the locker room who might not fit our system. Plus ... when you consider that the game is a passing game, the I-formation fullback might not be on the field for more than 25 to 30% of all plays ... especially when you consider we will be in the west coast offense. Picking up a versatile fullback might end up being a pretty good deal overall.
Vickers is 6'0 250. Marecic is 6'1 and 245 to almost 250 ... he could be a bigger blocker than Vickers by the time that the season starts.
By the way, we also got younger. Marecic is 22. Vickers will be 28 in about 10 days. If we are trying to compete in the next 2 to 3 years for the division ... do you really want to trust a fullback who is going to be 30 or 31 to take a beating? It's another part of the youth movement.
And who ever even said that he WAS gone ... there is still a small chance that he could be back.
Vickers wasn't a cancer.. I've read NOTHING that even remotely sounds like that. The most desenting thing Vickers has said was that he didn't think Mangini should have been fired.. that's it. That doesn't make him a cancer.
28 isn't old for a PROVEN talent like Vickers. Especially when compared to a rookie late round pick.
Ask Hillis what he thinks of Vickers..
there may be reasons that vickers isn't going to be here,, maybe he doesn't want to be, maybe he is asking for too much money, maybe there is a health reason we aren't aware of....
But those reason you give,,, well, they just aren't accurate/.

I think we will keep Vickers. Even with this new fb, I think he will be playing st initially this year. Maybe see some time on the field with the offense. But I don't think he is ready to supplant Vickers yet.
Plus, with Maroicic having experience at mlb and st too, its not like we are carrying 2 fb necessarily. He might find a roster spot as a utility-type player. Similar to a lot of the ST guys that Mangini had stashed at various positions on the roster.
It would be cool to see us feature some heavy formation with Maroicic, Vick, and Hillis in the backfield---and maybe Cribbs taking the snap.....that would be intense.

I agree Damon, this guy posted a stupid post Quote:
Vickers is 6'0 250. Marecic is 6'1 and 245 to almost 250 ... he could be a bigger blocker than Vickers by the time that the season starts.
Who cares what their size is? Vickers is one of the best run blocking fullbacks in the NFL. I attribute a lot of that to Terrelle Smith, who was one of the best when he was here, before Vickers improved and moved him out. This is just stupid. Don't give me guy's sizes and say that Marecic is going to be a "bigger blocker". May be bigger in size, but better at blocking than Vickers, don't be ridiculous. Eventually he might be, but Vickers' ability and instincts are things that are acquired over time.
And since when is 28 old............ May be if he was 31 now, we'd be talking about him getting old. But 28? Give me a break. That's called entering your prime.
I'm about to be 26, and while I don't do anything athletic, I'd like to think that I have not physically peaked! 28 is not old
But I do like the guy we picked up. He's the guy that played both ways for Stanford. Not a great LB, but he has to be in great shape. I imagine he will be pretty good at catching the ball and stuff. (Although, if we were looking for a true WCO FB we should have gotten Anthony Sherman out of UConn, he's a very good receiver IMO)

Until the lockout is resolved, we can not sign any UDFA. Just like we can't sign any FA in the league right now. So better hope we get him in the 7th.

I don't think it's been talked about, but the BIGGEST losers in this whole contract debacle is the UDFA that usually get picked up right after the draft..
Those kids are getting doinked royally..

as of pick 235, still available. I could see the Vikes, Panthers, Bills, or Bengals all having some interest in a WR yet.

Agree .. 28 isn't old at all ... but it might be when we are trying to compete for the playoffs / division / and the superbowl if the rest of our team and young talent comes of age in the next 2 to 4 years when he is a 30 or 32 year old blocking back with a lot of wear and tear ... might as well get younger. We have seen it at other positions as well.
Quote:
Ask Hillis what he thinks of Vickers..
He will say vickers was a great blocker in a brian daboll and romeo crennel system ... he can't say *anything* about his ability and how it translates to the west coast offense.

Once again .. I never said that Vickers is done. I think he has a lot of time. BUT ... if we are trying to move forward as a team that wants to compete in 2 to 4 years ... vickers will be 30 or 32 ... if we have the chance to add a young player now and let that player learn so he can grow with the team, then why not bring him in?
I never said he was better than vickers about the stats either. I was simply trying to say that he is a big fullback. It's a lot easier to be a fullback and knock a linebacker on his behind if you are 250 or 260 than if you are 230. That's all I was trying to say, but thanks for calling me stupid because you misread my post Petey ... lol
Other than that ... I LIKE vickers ... but we are just continuing to see the older players shed from the roster in the same way that Rogers was shed. Can he still play now? You bet. Will he be great in another couple years? Who knows ... that's why we are trying to get younger. We could still keep him on the roster anyway, I was just trying to offer suggestions on a guy that I like and why the end of the world ISNT coming just because we drafted a solid guy in the same position.

Don't mind me. I'm listening and just chuckling at Jaworski schooling Herm Edwards and his "He's a winner and a leader" stuff about Tebow. Jaws has all but said thats nice but he doesn't have the talent at this level. Boy is he right.

Eric Hagg * SI Grade * 2.51 * Grading System Position: S Class: 4Sr School: Nebraska Conference: Big 12 HT: 6-1.5 WT: 209 40 Time: 4.55 Biography: Three-year to starter awarded all-American and all-Conference honors as a senior after putting up totals of 49/5/4. Junior numbers included 40/1/4. Positives: "Smart, instinctive safety with poor speed. Stays with assignments, disciplined, and does a terrific job diagnosing the action. Fluid turning his hips to run with opponents, constantly positions himself to make a play on the ball, and has good hands. Physical throughout the action, has an aggressive nature, and works hard to defend passes. Displays skill in man coverage situations, reading receivers? eyes and getting his head back around to locate the pass in the air. Has good overall awareness. Tough and aggressive defending the run." Negatives: Lacks great closing and recovery speed. Cannot drive out of his plant to the ball. Analysis: "Hagg is a cognizant defender who consistently positions himself to make plays on the ball. He was very productive on the college level and would do well in a zone system at the next level, although his poor speed and limited quickness will be issues."
