What a slug........
On a side note - has anyone else noticed military jets flying around?
I think the U.S. is being very cautious right now. I've heard 4 jets in the past couple of hours. Maybe it means nothing......but it is highly abnormal for around here.

On my way to work this morning, I saw a number of military trucks. Now, I believe there's a National Guard outfit out of the Akron-Canton airport, so it really isn't all that abnormal to see some military trucks.
But, I saw more than I usually do. IMO, it's just because I was paying attention, not because there's something more going on. But, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a heightened sense of alert. It would make sense, at least.

No one person can take credit for it. To suggest that would be insane. But Obama gets blamed for things that were set in motion well before he took office, so why can't he take credit for things that fall under those same pretenses? Maybe that does indeed rub people the wrong way but it is what it is. Unfortunately it's just part of the political fabric in America.
It is part of the fabric and unfortunately it is always about "pay backs".... and I doubt it is ever going to end...
GWB got blamed for ruining a big surplus that was never going to happen anyway.. some blamed him for 9/11.. some blamed him for gas prices going up and acted as if the President could just make a phone call and fix it... they blamed him for all of the Katrina deaths and they blamed him for the oil spill.... some blamed him completely for the housing bubble... and of course they blame him for the debt and the job loss etc that accompanied these things...
He is far from blame free and I do not wish to rehash them all now but many of the problems started long before he was in office, just as the problems Obama inherited.. but I don't recall many democrats or many in the media cutting GWB any slack or bringing Clinton's name into the conversation when blame was being handed out.. so, as pay back, it is only human nature that anything that happened after January 2009 is on Obama, right or not, that's just the way it is..
and if the next President is a republican, the you can bet your bottom dollar that dems will blame whatever they can on him, completely forgetting about Obama...

Me too, which would have been abnormal several weeks ago, but not since the tornados hit (we have an Air Force base in Montgomery). Then again, we know that things have been set in motion for about a week now so who's to say that the reason for the increase isn't because of the tornados but rather an increase in security.
Oh well, only time will tell.

From the article:
"and he said that Obama’s chief concern was the safety of the Americans involved in the attack."
Of course it was.
Not only because that's the most important thing, but also because, if the fighting became intense and there was a distinct possibility of losing a number of our soldiers, we had the fall back of "well, we know he's there, so let's call in some bunker busters, a couple AC-130 gunships, and about 2 dozen fighter jets and make a crater that's about 1-mile in diameter, then send in the troops after to pick up the pieces for DNA testing."
Anyone in that house knew who was there and knew what the consequence was. Couldn't even consider that "collateral damage" unless they were tied up and held prisoner, and that doesn't seem to be the case here.

I know there's a fighter wing which operates out of Toledo Express Airport. They usually come out on nice blue sky days and fly over campus for a bit. I heard one earlier today but that's about all I've heard.

As time is passing, more and more reports are saying that it's tough to believe that the Pakistanis didn't know what was going on.
I have to say, I find it pretty hard to believe that someone didn't think "hey, this house is kind of out of the norm."
I also wouldn't be surprised if some of the Pakistani leaders had an inkling of where he was, but so long as they didn't actively try to find him, they could say "well, we know he isn't here." Kind of a "if I don't look, it isn't happening" type of denial.
For example, I've always heard the CIA headquarters is in Langley, Virginia. But, I've never seen it with my own eyes. So, I'll go around denying that it's in Langley because, hey, I've never seen it! Does that make my denial valid? C'mon...
They've got some big time answering to do.

AND BTW.. remember when Obama was showing respect to Pakistan, and there were those who were very critical of how he pronounced the name of the country, how he met with their leaders..etc.

I agree. I wouldn't vote for him either but I would vote for a more conservative black person. Colin Powell yes. Obama no.

Yeah - the 180th. But they don't make it this far west normally. If I am in Delta - I'll hear them almost every day.
They like to do their runs over Lake Erie, or up into Michigan, as a rule. Not saying it never happens here - but in my 11 years in this house, it's happened maybe 4 times.

I'm pissed...
Damn Pakistan had to know that Bin Laden was living in this area for maybe 6 years. They say this house/compound was built in 2005, in a military retirement area, not far from a military training center.
I'm sure the U.S. military and intell are going through their satellite images back to when construction started and hopefully they can get an idea who was doing the construction on this compound.

What I find amazing (not surprising) about this whole thing is how big of a coward bin Laden proved to be at the end. They always go on about how they want to be martyrs and die for Allah. But when it came time to die, did he face it like a man? No, he put his wife in front of himself as a shield. He was nothing but a coward to the end. A damn coward.
I am glad to see that justice has been served and hope that many of the Americans, and citizens of other countries who lost friends and family because of this monster will find some closure. Credit to Obama, but more importantly all of our military and special forces.

Still, I'd rather they put the body up in a town square someplace.

J/C, Just like we do not like it when other countries parade one of our "dead soldiers"around, we should not do the same! Kill him and then dispose of the body! Now just like Jnefant said, I might wrap him in bloody seal mean/blood and let the Sharks eat at him, but that's another story!
And some of you all are still going on about who gets what credit. The Pres, his Senior Admin, CIA and Military Ops get the bulk credit. Mentioning former Pres Bush was nice to include( more than what I would have done) but in the end, its good that America got to rejoice a bit in killing Bin Laden. Now the hard part of tracking the rest of Al Qaeda down!!

I can imagine what is said in public and what is said in private (out of wikileaks earshot) are two different things.
I would be willing to wager that if Pakistan knew, coughed him up or killed him that that would bring all sorts of trouble the governments way. So better to be stupid and let the infidels fight your battles.
Still, 40 minutes and no one knew?? Given the proximity to a Pakistani base I would bet my next paycheck someone pulled someone aside and said . . . "Shut the radar off that night . . . run some tests . . . ( ) and by the way . . . here's some cash and keys to a villa overlooking the Med. You said your son wants to be an engineer? Your daughter a doctor? Why we have several really nice all expenses paid universities you should check out!"
Whomever said this is like a Clancy novel is right. Very surreal. I can't believe it.

Well, while we are at it . . . 'Hurt Locker' team plans film on bin Laden hunt LOS ANGELES — The filmmakers behind the war-on-terror drama "The Hurt Locker" are moving forward with an action thriller about the hunt for Osama bin Laden.
Director Kathryn Bigelow and screenwriter Mark Boal have had the bin Laden project in the works, and now that the al-Qaeda leader has been killed, a person close to the filmmakers said Monday that the film is more relevant than ever.
The film will center on the Black Ops pursuit of bin Laden, said the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to talk about project's status.
U.S. forces have hunted bin Laden since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks nearly 10 years ago. A team of Navy SEALs shot and killed bin Laden early Monday at a compound in Pakistan.

I certainly agree,...but on the stage of world politics, combined with the religious angle it may not have been the absolute right thing to do, but it was a good decision.
I, on the other hand probably would have shown a picture, then broadcast the body being wrapped in the cloth, and then also broadcast the slide down the plank, if it would not have "violated" Muslim tradition somehow.

Wow. Wouldn't that be something if they find that the info on OBL's whereabouts came from a waterboarding session.
Looks like it has . . . From the Washington Post
How the U.S. found and finished Bin Laden
It is a nice article won't post it all but here's the detail:
Some of the detainees who confirmed the courier’s nickname were subjected to “enhanced interrogation techniques,” the CIA’s formal name for what is now widely viewed as torture. This adds a moral ambiguity to a story that is otherwise one of triumphal retribution and justice.

Not Jets, but going into the city (New York) trucks are being searched. And there was an extremely heavy police presence on the Parkway today. Lots of extra security around here.

I am a bit biased as I am former Navy. But I do have much respect for the Army Special Forces (my dad was a Green Beret) as well as the Force Recon groups.
But essentially, yes. The Navy S.E.A.L.s are the best. And Seal Team 6 is the best of the Seal teams imo. Having seen them up close and in person, I am very glad they are on our side. lol

Someone on the Steelers or someone who cares about him needs to reach out to running back Rashard Mendenhall and tell him to shut up. I am not opposed to free speech, but Mendenhall is threatening to wreck his career with his comments on Twitter. Judging from his comments, it's hard to tell if Mendenhall is pleading for attention or not too bright. Inside Pittsburgh Sports has these Twitter comments from Mendenhall: Speaking of the nationwide reaction to the death of Osama bin Laden, the mass murderer who plotted the 9/11 attacks on the United States, he tweeted: ``What kind of person celebrates death? It's amazing how people can HATE a man they have never even heard speak. We've only heard one side... '' In answer to a question posed by another person, Mendenhall tweeted, ``We’ll never know what really happened. I just have a hard time believing a plane could take a skyscraper down demolition style.’’ In March, after Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings referred to the NFL as ``. . . Modern-day slavery,’’ Mendenhall’s response on Twitter was this: ``Anyone with knowledge of the slave trade and the NFL could say that these two parallel each other." http://communityvoices.sites.post-gazett...in-ladens-death

I can't believe anyone is that stupid. What does he think brought the towers down. If I were the owner I would seriously consider cutting his sorry a** when a new agreement is reached. What a clown. I can't imagine any Steelers fans are all to happy about those comments. If he were a Brown I'd want him off the team.
