By the way, if I'm right about these moves and if it turns out that Tucker can play,, think about him as a RG...

All of a sudden:

Thomas, Stienbach, Fraley, Tucker, Shaffer

With possible back ups all over the place,, Shaffer gets injured,, how much of a drop off is there if Tucker has to take over at RT.... Thomas hurts his arm, are we at the end of our rope if Stienbach or Shaffer have to relieve him for a game or two,,, With Andruzzi and Sowells and perhaps that second round guy I mentioned,,, how much trouble are we in on the line if a guard goes down all of a sudden.. pretty much,, no problem at all...

Man,, we are set for years if we do it that way,,,, But hey, it's only my opinion,,, But I like it...

I've been thinking the same thing. That would be a pretty good line. Hell, it would be a very good line.

The Browns would have a chance w/that line. And if Bentley comes back in '08, then we would be even better and actually be able to have some depth when people are injured.

Let's hope it comes true.

........I just don't understand your singlemindedness (I think that's a word ). Peterson has the POTENTIAL to be a HALL OF FAME RB, Thomas has the POTENTIAL to be a ANCHOR to our line for years. But right now, that's all it is, POTENTIAL.

The potential factor is probably correct on both of those guys.

However, Thomas would have the opportunity to reach his potential merely playing his position whereas Peterson may not, if the offensive line in front of him cannot afford him the holes to run through.

Thomas reaching his potential is not directly related to any other player adequately doing thier job.

Peterson's potential, on the other hand, is directly related to the guys up front getting it done. He may never reach his potential behind a suspect line. Sure, he'd likely do better than many in that predicament, but to expect him to be the next LT behind our offensive line is asking a bit much.

Therefore, in my opinion, Thomas is the better choice. Get the offensive line solidified and then draft the premier running back so he has a fighting chance to reach his potential.

I SAID...We won't take a Corner in the draft IF we signed Clements...
Yeah..I was slightly off..ha..BUT I still maintain we woill take a CB REGARDLESS of whether he had signed or not.
Too many good ones not to...

Joe Thomas in the 1st and perhaps a Michael Bush in Rnd 2 with the best damn guard still on the board in the 3rd. Our offense might actually be kinda decent with that

My thoughts and hopes are not gonna please anyone that wants us to take a QB like Quinn or a RB like Peterson with that first pick But I think it sets us up to be a very good team for many years to come.. I think, or at least I hope that it will give us a foundation that is so solid that it will be as simple as plugging in a guy here or a guy there and BOOM,,,it's off to the playoffs..

Kinda like the late 80's,,,, they were a team like that..

That would be nice, but if we get Joe in the first.....we may be able to concentrate on defense w/the majority of our remaining picks.

Regardless........it gives us great options. I would be praising Savage for a long time if he was able to pull it off.

Lets say other sources from other websites ..people who scout..they said the Browns were interviewing and watching certain linemen very closely..Ugoh..Ramirez..Wrotto..

Ya' know what's interesting...

Looking at Steinbachs contract...He's got about a 1.44M per year SB Pro-Ration (10M over 7 years)...In 2008 he gets a 6M Roster Bonus...The base on that HAS to be pretty low in order to keep him from being a crazy 10M cap hit in 08...His RB goes way down to 1M in 2009...Back to respectable...(There's the 17M Guaranteed)...Then comes the other 6M over the 1st 3 years to total that 23M...Most of that will be in Base Salaries...Maybe 2M/1M/3M respectively...

That has him roughly a 3.45M hit this year...(THAT is the figure we would deduct from the 30 so Million in space we started out with)(Plus Fraley's approx 1.8M)...There's 5.3M between TWO STARTERS Toad...

8.45M in 2008

5.44M in 2009

That ain't too shabby for a STUD...I also bet these guys looked real hard at where Bentley and Shaffers RB's were at...Bet they're minimal in 2008...It's why we went 6M for Steiner...

I'm just wondering if our Capoligist is forward looking and seeing we're still in great shape even next year to absorb a double digit cap hit in Steiner...

I really agree with Vers on the point that I hope this doesn't mean Phil will shy away from OL in the draft.

See, I really don't think it will make him shy away from it.

Look at what he did with the linebacking core between 05 and 06.

We all like to take our shot and offer our opinions. We also all like to hope we can guess the outcome of various events, (i.e. free agency, the draft, talent evaluation). That's why we offer our opinions in the first place.

If we are correct in our evaluations and discussions then that was the goal in the first place.

Who the hell ever argues a point not caring if they are correct or not? Nobody!

When someone plays out to be correct a majority of the time, it makes me, for one, sit up and pay attention to what that person has to say. After all, that is why I'm here...to learn. I come here for answers because many of you know a hell of a lot more than me, and like the inquiring mind, I want to know.

When the facts are not yet out, the only thing I have to go by is my own opinion and that of others. If others are consistantly pointing in the right direction then I assume that they know, at least somewhat, what they are talking about. Those opinions are interesting to me. Much moreso than opinions of those who just throw out their predictions and are seldom played out as right.

So, there is something about being right. It establishes value.

I propose that the only ones who think not are those who are usually wrong in their assumptions. It makes them feel inferior in their lack of knowledge. They find the only way for them to raise their level in the heiarchy is to attempt to bring the other's down to thier level by pointing out that it's no big deal to be right.

Hogwash!

There is another thing going on in this, and that is that there are some who are competitive in their assessments with a few of their fellow dawgs. It's a friendly competition with each other to see who can correctly discern the upcoming moves the Browns make and also correctly predict the outcome of those moves.

It's a fun thing if you study and keep up with what's going on.

For the rest of us, we get the advantage and opportunity of learning from those who know, understand and have more experience in the game and business of football then we do.

Learning is a wonderfull and fulfilling thing.

Dismissing those who are often right in their opinions and assessments leave us in the quandry of not learning from them. We are stuck with our own opinions, which often do not play out. We have that and the facts...after the fact.

Me? I like to get a heads up on the outcome of various team events and the best way to get that is on this board from those who possess the knowledge and experience to have valued opinions.

Those who would prefer to make fun of that knowledge and experience lose out.

Boy I can't even bring myself to read all this soap opera itchin and moaning going on here. This is just plain crazy.

Anyway, don't know how many of you watched the Steinbach presser but the recording is up and available on CB.com.

I wasn't at all sure of what kind of player (off field) he was like other than the BS said around here and from the papers. He sure a heck impressed me from what I saw in the presser. NOT overly concerned about the money, Wanted to stay in the AFC North because it makes you play at a higher level than other divisions, Does Not Care where he play's, just wants to play hard at whatever position he is asked to play. He seemed genuinely sorry for what happened with the boating and that it was an abnormality not the norm.

This man really impressed me and I am really looking forward to next season now. This guy has class. Funny as all get out at the end of the presser to, some reporter asked something about getting a drink or celebrating or something as Eric was getting up to leave and he s`id "Yeah, but I think I’ll want to find a designated driver first!"

That's a really good point.

Maybe they are trying very hard to focus on OL this offseason, thus more OL FAs, draft picks.

Until I see it, though, I'm not sure I'll believe it.

FOUR MILLION...Just like I said and that ain't comin' anywhere NEAR that percentage spent on the OL that u used the other day...What was it???...22%???...Actually ONE THIRD is what u initially said I believe...

Oh HO, so now it's a THIRD Wait, maybe I said it was HALF LOL!

Go back and read what I said (if you can find it through all this mess *L*). I said we'd end up with $20 million in offensive linemen, and could ultimately end up with 1/5th (or even more) of our cap tied up on the line.

I stand by it. We'll see.

Lesson 1 Eric: Learn difference between Division & Conference.

Yeah, good presser though... He did say he was more comfortable at Guard. I really hope we keep him there.
